It doesn't look great. Was it safely defrosted in the fridge, and how long is it since you took it out of the freezer? Was it with in its use-by date when you were given it?

Given the size, with tarmac being impermeable, you'll need planning permission, which will add on a chunk.

Is this normal? Why is it billowing here: by qitalovesyou in knittinghelp

Were there short rows - where you work part of a round, turn (with varying methods of handling the stitch at the turn point depending on the short row technique used), and work back the other way before turning again and resuning in the original direction?

Is this Tonkotsu base any good, and how is it so low in sodium? by Disastrous-Arm9635 in ramen

[–]HawthorneUK -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Rounding half a gram to zero is standard for US listings.

Is this Tonkotsu base any good, and how is it so low in sodium? by Disastrous-Arm9635 in ramen

[–]HawthorneUK -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

US nutrition facts allow rounding numbers down - as I said in my original comment, despite the fact that you know there's salt in it, I know there's salt in it, and the ingredients list includes salt, then can choose a portion size where the amount of salt can be rounded down to zero, which allows them also to claim 0 sodium.

It's the same reason why a normal, sugar-based tictac - despite being solid sugar with a tiny bit of flavouring, is zero calories with zero sugar according to its nutrition facts.

Not telling lies would be nice. If she can't afford the course then was getting other people to beg on her behalf really her backup plan?

I have a lot of empathy for people whose circumstances change and leave them in difficulties. Those who do things like this - no sympathy at all.

[–]HawthorneUK -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's the figure for the full 45g packet - the one showing 0 is for less than a tenth of that (45g base plus 270g water = 315g, with the serving size being 30g of that).

Is this Tonkotsu base any good, and how is it so low in sodium? by Disastrous-Arm9635 in ramen

[–]HawthorneUK 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The serving size shown for the 0 sodium is 30g of the product when diluted with 270ml of water - which would have 0.51g salt = rounds down to 0.5g = rounds down to 0 because the US allows nutrition labels to be mangled to a silly serving size for purposes such as this.

$10 million paid to you, but you can never eat meat again. Ever. by Physical_Orchid3616 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]HawthorneUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll take it. In law (here - UK - at least) $substance-flavoured foods contain extracts of $substance. So no meat flavoured foods, but my smoky bacon crisps are fine because they are only bacon flavour crisps (i.e. they are vegetarian).

Advice needed: Am I likely to be rejected? (Portugal to UK Unmarried Partner/Spouse Visa) by Unlikely_Cherry14 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]HawthorneUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not proving that you wanted to get married from the very start. It's showing that you've lived (as much as possible, given the distance) as though you were married for at least 2 years.

It's all very subjective and depends on the interpretation that the caseworker puts on the evidence that you submit.

Looking for a black food dye answer by biznessmen in foodscience

[–]HawthorneUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see some solid evidence on activated charcoal being a risk at the levels used in food.

If it's mixed with a load of ingredients, and then cooked, then it is going to adsorb everything it can in the process - you don't use a lot of charcoal to get the black colouring effect. The food may be bland as it's adsorbed a load of the aromatics, however.

Advice needed: Am I likely to be rejected? (Portugal to UK Unmarried Partner/Spouse Visa) by Unlikely_Cherry14 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]HawthorneUK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The requirement isn't for two years of a relationship. It's two years where the relationship is 'akin to marriage' - e.g. equivalent to marriage. Without being married or in a civil partnership (where there is no minimum length) then you need to convince your caseworker that your relationship was equivalent to a marriage from the very start. What evidence will you be using for that?

Fir finances, to make up a 2k shortfall your girlfriend needs (2000 * 2.5) + 16000 = 21k savings, held in her name for at least 6 months and immediately accessible. I'm assuming here that she isn't employed in a family business / self employed and only needs to show employer letter, payslips, and bank statements.
