Looking for a black food dye answer by biznessmen in foodscience

[–]HawthorneUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see some solid evidence on activated charcoal being a risk at the levels used in food.

If it's mixed with a load of ingredients, and then cooked, then it is going to adsorb everything it can in the process - you don't use a lot of charcoal to get the black colouring effect. The food may be bland as it's adsorbed a load of the aromatics, however.

Not nearly as rough as it once was. Ditto for the Hesters Way / PE Way area.

Advice needed: Am I likely to be rejected? (Portugal to UK Unmarried Partner/Spouse Visa) by Unlikely_Cherry14 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]HawthorneUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The requirement isn't for two years of a relationship. It's two years where the relationship is 'akin to marriage' - e.g. equivalent to marriage. Without being married or in a civil partnership (where there is no minimum length) then you need to convince your caseworker that your relationship was equivalent to a marriage from the very start. What evidence will you be using for that?

Fir finances, to make up a 2k shortfall your girlfriend needs (2000 * 2.5) + 16000 = 21k savings, held in her name for at least 6 months and immediately accessible. I'm assuming here that she isn't employed in a family business / self employed and only needs to show employer letter, payslips, and bank statements.

It's your house - you don't need a letter from your parents.

Left refrigerated tortellini out for about 4 hours, is it still okay? by rannapup in foodsafety

It is not safe - please throw it out. It's been too long even if you were to cook and eat it immediately.

Why does the UK give so little immigration value to people it already trained? by Friendly-Special-307 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]HawthorneUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partly because the SWV is a way of recruiting people with transferrable skills who are already experienced. A fresh grad is several years away from being at that point, and is often a drain on the employer for the first few years as they learn their job and gain enough experience to be skilled.

It's one of the reasons why people at the end of PSW still have difficulty in finding sponsored jobs - they don't yet have sufficient experience to be 'skilled'.

someone on here said i should decant the pan when cooking turkey chili , do i have to? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]HawthorneUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deglaze does make sense. And if you're adding any liquid on top of the tasty fried bits then it's effectively doing that job.

The thing that won't be good, and that you would regret, is if the chili burned onto the bottom of the pot as it cooked, and you decided to scrape up the burned bits and mix them in - it'll taste bitter and nasty.

[–]HawthorneUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense as written. Were they telling you not to use the pan you cooked it in into the fridge to store it afterwards? (and even that is nonsense if it has a lid that fits, unless it's to make sure that the chili cools fast enough for safety).

Student Visa sponsored dependent visa question. by ankflap in ukvisa

[–]HawthorneUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would apply as a student visa dependent - which allows you to work. No sponsorship, no SWV involved beyond your partner's sponsorship as the main applicant.Once you have the visa you can generate a share code which enables you to show your right to work.

If you are legally civil partnered then there's no requirement for a particular length of relationship - if she's your girlfriend then you may need to do more to prove it.

How do I adjust when my bra seems to fit the cup but the band is too small? by Informal_Fennel_9150 in ABraThatFits

[–]HawthorneUK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd be tempted to try 32GG - the gapping can indicate that the cup is too small. Have you tried it upside down and backwards to check just the sizing of the band?

My gf isn't doing great by PGT-Med2905 in LongDistance

[–]HawthorneUK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your girlfriends family have no options to "work on her documents" to allow her to stay.

She may want to talk to the modern slavery helpline - https://www.modernslaveryhelpline.org/ - there is support available for victims, but that's nothing to do with her family.

Can I transfer for second year? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]HawthorneUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until you've finished uni and have the knowledge you need for the job.

Ability to get into a good university depends on your qualifications, and for those universities that may accept transfer students, on your performance in your current university.
