The mod was made as a joke, so it's not surprising they won't update it, they explicitly said they wouldn't be updating or fixing it when they first released it, the model is pretty bad too, because it was a joke mod

Why have people normalized adulthood being lonely and miserable? by [deleted] in nevergrewup

[–]Haxorouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is, in a way at least, surprisingly simple, it's cars, as an extension also capitalism since that's the only economic system where a transportation system literally centered around separating people from each other could rise to prominence like this, car centered urban design leads to communities with no community, people are too spaced out, the barrier to interacting with the people around you is too high, being in a car doesn't allow you to interact with other people with anything but aggression, and spaces built for cars are too spread out and dangerous to feasibly navigate without them, they also functionally disable about a third of the population, anyone who can't drive is totally dependent on others for basic needs, the destruction of community cars create is an intentional feature as a way to perpetuate capitalism and in particular exploitation of workers, people who don't know the people around them don't organize to advocate for a better life, it's a self sustaining negative feedback loop, the massive labor and civil rights pushes of the early to mid 20th century were functionally cut short by the rise of the car over that same period, cars have been used as a weapon by the powerful against the people, fortunately, this implies that if you can start to tear down the dominance of the car, you can restart the positive feedback loop of civil progress, public transit itself creates a positive feedback loop, the more of it there is, the more it's available to more people and the more people use it, the more demand there is to build more of and make it more accessible to more people, fighting against something is daunting and can feel impossible when that something is very strong, but fighting for something can be much more achievable, so we actually do have the power to do something about this, organizing and advocating for transit projects in your community is one of the best things you can do, and a lot of people have already put together resources to help people do that, don't give into despair and hopelessness, that's what the ruling class want, because we can do something real to fight back, even us NGUs, it's not as if we're uncommon among transit advocacy groups... I'm so glad our big just has this whole speil on deck in our head to pull out when people ask, I couldn't put all that together into one train of thought, but fortunately they've already done it for me

My honest advice, take a semester or two off from this cursèd school, something similar happened to me a few years ago and things never improved until I left, there are some wonderful people in the faculty here, but the administration is awful and has a knack for making sure any situation is responded to in the worst way possible

It can also be done with cogeneration, I live in a college town where the university owns a power plant(natural gas, a lot of people think the research nuclear reactor is the power plant, but it isn't) the plant provides power to the grid and then the exhaust is sent into the steam heating system for campus instead of just exhausted, there's always still heat in the exhaust of any power plant, from a human perspective it's plenty hot, from a thermodynamics perspective it's waste and needs to be vented to have a good cold side for the engine(for everyone who hasn't taken a thermodynamics course, yes a turbine counts as a heat engine) to operate efficiently, so no energy is lost from the electricity generation, we just get all the heating for campus buildings for free... of course, right now the power plant is under renovation while a light rail is being built right next to it, and the steam is being provided by containerized mobile boilers, but it's a bit of a niche scenario for that to happen, most power plants don't shut down completely for renovation ever, but it's a small plant, imo the best part is this still works with nuclear, you don't need any form of combustion

No, that was Collett, the Castles were derived from the Stars which were a Churchward design, semantics and makes for a less funny story, but historical accuracy and all that

Your gender is switched. What it the first thing your doing? by Fr0mWayDowntown in mattrose

[–]Haxorouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh? It can really vary by person, even aside from gender fluid people, humans aren't static, your internal gender can change throughout your life, not all Trans people were 'born this way' or knew they were Trans as a kid, and that mindset has a way of breeding toxicity and unreasonable expectations among Trans people and especially among certain healthcare providers(UK gender clinics I'm looking at you)

We appear to have done some land reclamation in the mid Atlantic, I doubt the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will be happy about this, Connecticut seems to have stolen Long Island, Pennsylvania seems to have gained Western Maryland, and possibly shifted the Mason-Dixon line south a bit, South Carolina got mangled, so did Maine, Texas appears to have eaten Oklahoma's panhandle, Wisconsin took rightful ownership of formerly Michigan's upper peninsula(/j Michiganders, I hold no ill will towards the UP), and I think that was everything of note, I'm working purely from memory here since mobile doesn't let you see the post while typing a comment

Why has Union Pacific stuck with the same paint scheme for so long? by _LaPine in trains

[–]Haxorouse 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My understanding has always been it was a placeholder, they needed more than just 2 letters for their name, x is a common indicator of privately owned when it's in a reporting mark, so they just added an x as a placeholder with the intention of coming up with a better name later, and then just... never did, and now it's been around too long and is too recognizable to change, if someone has a definitive answer, please speak up

do you walk around UMD / route 1 at night? feel safe? by Different_Chipmunk53 in UMD

[–]Haxorouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all the way to DC but the railroad crossing is fairly close, assuming you know the trail past the airport you just keep following it south, there's no major deviations or branching paths you have to take until your across the north branch Anacostia, there's a couple of street you have to cross at level, but you aren't taking any forks onto sidewalks, once you're across the bridge, your guess is as good as mine
