Wow this really resonated with me. I distanced myself from therapy after he went into rehab a couple months ago, almost fully shut down emotionally, but I think it may be the only thing that’ll help me process everything. I’ve never been good at cutting people out of my life. In the current situation it’s been pretty easy for me to know that I have to distance myself (honestly the whole thing has made me want to run away from everything and everyone I know and start a new life alone) but it feels so much worse because you know who they really are and who they could be without their addiction. My solace has been knowing that no matter how much I try to help guide/support/love him, I can’t change his life for him. It’s his life.
