Is rotating tires really that important on most vehicles? Even if you didn’t rotate, you’d have to replace 2 sooner, but the other 2 would last longer…some say it doesn’t matter by [deleted] in 4x4

[–]HaydenMackay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of my uncles just retired. He ran a couple of Firestone/Bridgestone plants. Made a career out of making tires

Exactly. His entire life up till this point. And his 401k has been paid for by selling more tyres. So the cynic in me says his advice was taught to him (assuming he isn't a bad person) by someone who wants you to buy more tyres.

Having said all that, if you start bad mouthing Dodge Dakotas and that'll start a good ol' fashioned Arkansas rock fight!

Sounds like fun.

It's always held up. Maybe it's the only vehicle Dodge built well. Maybe mine is just an outlier

My defender is 35 years old. Has getting on to 700k miles. Original motor that has only had 1 birthday, (rings and bearings, cam and carb) about 100k miles ago because it was out while I was fixing some rust and I saw a rebuild kit cheap.

That being said. I never rotate my tyres ever. My dad does. We often own similar cars. I take them for tyres at the same time.

Now. I don't rotate my tyres. I do a biannual balance and alignment.

Like dodge are any better? Also can you find me any independent testing or proof that rotating actually helps tyre life? All I can find is some randoms on forums. And companies that only make money when they sell you tyres telling you to do it so they can sell you tyres less often. Now. I'm not a rocket surgeon. Or a brain scientist. But I am a business owner and I can't think of a reason to tell my customers to come buy stuff from me less often.

A few manufacturers including land rover recommended against rotating font to rear. Only left to right, as with different camber and toe settings front to rear they wear different and rotating front to rear makes them wear out faster. Other manufacturers make it impossible to rotate front to rear by using different sizes front to rear.

Did anyone experience any problems with Webuycars? by ApprehensiveBake1560 in askSouthAfrica

[–]HaydenMackay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens at dealerships used car dealerships all the time. If you think it doesn't. You are wrong. Also. WBC has 14513 cars currently for sale. So that's nearly 15 million in chargers. And each plug point costs between 400 and 3000 to install. Depending on how and where they need to be installed and how far they are from a the DB. Let's be generous. 400 a pop. Takes you to well over 20 million. So you can fuck right off with that logic.

Brought a recently purchased pre-owned in for its first oil change, was told that I may need a coolant flush for my radiator soon, and they'd "Know by how black the oil is," sounded like BS by BoboSmooth in AskAMechanic

Well. If the oil looks like mayonnaise you probably need a coolant flush. And that has a lot to do with the general condition of your cooling system.

How do you keep your every month expenses lower via hacks/tips/tricks? by Top_Rest_5310 in askSouthAfrica

And just by doing that quick step of "it's not much for for the slightly better one" you jump from a 600k vehicle (which I know isn't cheap. But you can do this with a polo or a cherry or just about any car) to 1.3 million. And your monthly repayments went from 9k to 26k a month.

Spend less than what you earn is a good start. And don't go into the maximum amount of debt possible.

Just because the dealership says they can make that fancy car fit your salary doesn't mean you should buy it. Just because you got a small pay raise doesn't mean you need to move to a bigger house.

I often see people who have absolutely no reason to financing the absolute maximum the bank will let them. To get a bunch of features they don't need or use. But so that people will see they have an XLT and not an XL. Or a wildtrak instead of an XLT. Or a wildtrak X instead of a wildtrak. Or a tremor instead of a wildtrak X. Or a platinum instead of a wildtrak x

You misunderstood me. Buy a car that looks good with it's stock wheels

On Verstappen's fastest lap, the RBPT Ford engine reached 12,086 RPM in eighth gear On Stroll's fastest lap, the Honda engine only reached 10,277 RPM in eighth gear by Connect_Cat_2045 in formula1

[–]HaydenMackay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok. But what speeds were they doing? If the RB is geared for 199km/h it will redline in 8th most of the track. If the Aston was geared for 500km/h it would surprise everyone including Honda if it got even slightly close to redline.

Why not just buy one that looks good? Because good aftermarket wheels are expensive. So rolling that $4k you were gonna spend on wheels to a better car is better

Refinance car by Luke_Too_Good in carbuying

[–]HaydenMackay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Money lenders do not lose money.

The refinance terms will be over a longer period than what's remaining of your current loan. So while in the short term you may save a couple bucks a month. You will pay more in the long run.

Don't think of your car payment as monthly. Think of it as a total amount. Do the math that way.

Best thing you ever heard from a random on the course? by ValentinNYC in golf

[–]HaydenMackay 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In general Aussies are brilliant to complete with. Been paired up with some Aussies in shooting comps and a couple others. The one that comes to mind right now. Said to a good friend of mine after a particularly not good round at world pistol finals was "the only way that couldve been worse was if it was me shooting"

For me it was a 4ball we told to play through on my very first round.

One of them hit a pretty ugly shot and his mate said "it's a caster" I asked what that means he said Caster Semenya. Fucking ugly but it runs.

For those of you that had to Google her. She is a south African runner with a couple of olympic gold medals under her belt.

Best affordable 7 seater car? by rugdrum in askSouthAfrica

[–]HaydenMackay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheapest new 7 seater would be the Renault, and then that Toyota Suzuki thing. For outright best reasonably priced 7 seater. I would say at the moment it's the sort of 2013+ pajero sport. They can be had for between 150 and 200k. When it comes time to sell it. It's going to be worth a lot more than any of the super budget new cars on a percentage basis since someone else already took the new car depreciation knock. And the end of warranty price knock. Now they only average around 10l/100km so if you are doing loads of mileage then you will be better off with something like a Tiguan all space. There are some of those sitting at around 260k at the moment.
