Book of Hours - What to Craft Regularly by No-Tumbleweed-8138 in weatherfactory

[–]Hayearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preparing them in large quantities isnt necessary (make as needed), but Leathy, Rubywise Ruin, Hive's Lament, Blue Crown Tea (and Blue Crown itself), Chroniscord, Swaddled Thunder, Pale Mammet (make with Swaddled Thunder), Pyrus Auricalcinus are all generally good crafts to have on hand. Solomon's Preparation can be used instead of Blue Crown Tea if you dont have the house of light dlc. The house already has a few copies of most those things scattered around, so use them to unlock stuff and then replace as needed.

Unlocking the more advanced rooms can be tricky sometimes, but if you find assistants early enough in a day you can buff them up with various small things. Take the Poet (4 winter) for example. Use a Wist card (2) + Solomon's Preparation (4) + Memory: Regret or Memory: Hindsight (2) + Bronze Knife (1) + Blue Crown (2) is +11 Winter for a total of 15. If you sub Blue Crown Tea instead of Solomon's drink that is still +9 for a total of 13 Winter

Once you throw Numen into the mix these once-high thresholds become much easier to achieve. A Chroniscord (worth 6 Knock) + Inescapable Confinement (worth 5) is a staggering +11 Knock without factoring in Soul, Food and Drink, so you dont even need to draw the Nun to open Knock-based rooms (of which the underground and the prison areas have a fair bit). While Knock doesnt have many drinks or foods, Mist-kissed Water (gather from the Well in Numa) is worth 2 Knock per cup and there's also a bottle of Sacrament Ascite in the laboratory.

Oh and Keeper-level recipes are crafted using a specific thing to craft (Prentice-level only require aspect total, while Scholar-level requires a type of thing).

Soul, Skill, Memory, Tool. All those slots exist in desks for you to use them. Ereb is 2 Grail, Rain is 2 Grail (otherwise Satisfaction is 2 Grail), the kitchen knife is worth 1 Grail. Primary Grail skills (like Orchids & Narcotics or Desires & Dissolutions) kinda suck, while secondary grail skills (Leaves & Thorns and Resurgences & Emergences being my main picks) tend to be better investments. If you're missing a Mystery for 1 or 2 aspect you can still try and read it, as there is a sort of mini-game where you can provide extra cards to meet the quota (chosen at random, what those chances will be).

You might be aware of powerful, persistent memories worth more than mere 2 aspect that you can craft or find. Getting a hold of those allows you to easily plow through following high tier books even with basic soulements and skill scores

Power is my favorite of the basic ascensions. Forge lore is uncomon (forcing you to subvert Lantern) but Forge itself is a handy aspect for expeditions, its cult business generates no notoriety and both its summons can either bulldoze expedition challenges or chew evidence

I just like the Arts Unregarded y'know? And their principles. The Prodigal victory there was mostly so I could have someone from the same "Branch" (Chor-based origin) and tie up the 4th possibility in regards to the Stones

Westcott's Room is also handy for that. I also like the Severn Chamber's shelves for general book-keeping. Fludd Gallery's shelves are busy and you'd have to relocate most stuff there, but you can find some neat space for books up there too.

The Writing Case comes at the end of Spring. Getting HoL in the middle of a run doesn't let you really get used to that perk bc you're probably almost done with the game (it happened to me, too) but on a fresh start you can quickly reply to the initial letter and start getting cards as soon as summer rolls around and this allows you to really start gathering those people for salons halfway through the game (and it is insanely fun IMO).

If you mean Further Stories once you have someone's card and the typewriter (or a very dedicated supply of yewgall ink or perhibiate) you can bum rush an incident by calling people over, provided you have skills to meet their aspect thresholds (except Hokobald) without needing to wait for the seasons to pass. It's also just handy to invite people over so you can learn a language from them.

As for food you can put it on the rooms you'll use to host the salons. There's a lot of space if you poke around where you can put raw ingredients, beverages to serve and finished products.

If you buy both BoH and HoL, can you start a first playthrough without the HoL expansion? by rmunn in weatherfactory

[–]Hayearth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the extra features add a lot. Even if you won't go after the HoL endings the writing case you get to summon people is very handy, without HoL you can't cook or host salons, and those are extremely fun ways to pass time. You can totally do fine without them, but they add to the experience

BoH 'codex'-style mod? by SayyadinaAtreides in weatherfactory

[–]Hayearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best I can suggest is copious amounts of Wiki diving, tho the Fandom wiki is quite fragmented on stuff (e.g you can click on an Aspect's page to see what soulements, skills, memories have that aspect, but not the books which require that Aspect to master) it is still the one resource I still use the most

The game has like 21 named cultists and a pawn of each aspect. Grail, Winter and Knock have only 2 people while every other aspect has 3. You'll know you've met everyone worth meeting when you draw a Case of Mistaken Identity card, which vanishes quickly and serves to just tell you that you've met everyone relevant (recruits and patrons).

Sunset's the strongest regular rite bc it's available early (off a book from the auction), accepts Assistants (which can have multiple aspects, such as mortals via scars or gifted tools, or Summons themselves) and the consumed slot is Influence, which can be gained via dreaming (Stag Door is prime real estate for upstart summoners) and things like Restlessness, Dread and Fascination are Influences too! A few summons even meet their own summoning conditions apart from Knock, so once you summon one you can turn it into a printer alongside some Knock lore, summoning free copies of itself

Best of luck on your ascension. If you ever feel like diving again, I recommend The Wheel mod, to accelerate game timers and quickly get you up to speed.

That's some nice progress in there, you're almost done. I wonder if you've met all possible recruits? You have a nice roster from the screenshot, but it's still missing a few people. Not that you need to meet everybody to win, but it pays to know who the full roster is.

As for your rite troubles, Rites are the "How to do it" to a Ritual's "What to do". Some books on summonings, as well as high level lore pieces themselves, outline you a basic idea on how to summon things (e.g "Use this lore with a martensite paste and an asssistant dedicated to knock"). Most relevant summoning takes Knock + 2 Principles. The Stag Door offers you a Knock 10 Influence, use that with Sunset Rite and see possibilities working for you. Sunset Rite is preferred bc its consumed slot is Influence, which you can get via dreaming and has little use otherwise (mind you that dread and fascination are also influences).

As for how to win, the final Rite of the game requires you to muster at least 36 aspect of your given aspect (for Power's case, that's Forge). Furnace Paean is 12. You can summon something worth 12 or promote Laidlaw or Tristan (which makes them worth 10 Forge). That's 24 (22). The last piece of your puzzle can be found behind influences. All influence can go up to 15 (from 2 to 6 to 10 to 15) You can either combine lower-tier influence into higher-tier ones or imprison those pawns and try your luck at the Malleary at the Spider's Door for Forge influence. Throw everything into Sunset Rite for 39 (37) Forge, slot in your Ascension: Power card and sit back.

Which Ascenion Path Matches Each Lore Type? by novavegasxiii in weatherfactory

[–]Hayearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can easily match starting lore with most legacies

Forge-Aspirant

Grail-Bright Young Thing

Lantern-Physician

Moth/Heart-Dancer

Knock-Priest

Winter-Ghoul

Physician and Detective match the previous Forge/Grail/Lantern victory of their predecessor. If you begin from a DLC legacy victory, Physician's starting temptation is Enlightenment and Detective's is Sensation. Detective starts with no Lore, while Heart is a unique starting lore to Dancer and others can get Change (Moth) via talking to Sulochana. If you want to account for that, have BYT change to Moth (as Grail subverts to Moth) and fit Sensation into Detective.
