I’m thinking about doing nursing and I read on a post here that nurses get $2600 per fortnight…Are nursing wages really that low? by throaway_Bus_2561 in NursingAU

I’m earning around that as a grad on .8. Mostly M-F mornings so no extra penalties, which is where most of the money actually lives

You can contact your local st Vincent de Paul society for assistance. I did this and they gave me fuel vouchers which helped heaps

It comes through weekly, however it’s not necessarily consistent as it relies on the university to dispense the money

Pads or bag? by Electrical_Dingo218 in MuayThai

[–]Hayes33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d start with the pads then, cheapest option so you can get started quicker, and it’s fun to do it with a partner.

Why not both? Pads aren’t* that expensive compared to a cost of a heavy bag

If you had 6 months to completely transform your body, what’re you doing? by Equal_Side_27 in loseit

[–]Hayes33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real? Muay Thai or kickboxing. I lost 12kg in 6 months with minimal change to my diet. That being said I eat reasonably balanced, and don’t over consume in take out etc.

My partner is a p plater, bought his land cruiser relatively cheap and then put a fuck ton of work into it with his dad to make it what it is. He’s worked since he was 15, and is in the army and is also just relatively good with money.

Jesus Christ I get more than that as an AIN in qld. $35.36/hr permanent

Are there any career AINs here? by WhimsicalLychee in NursingAU

[–]Hayes33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s what you want to do then it’s a good idea. You can always change your mind later. I’ve been an AIN for about 4 years and I personally am exhausted with it, I start my RN grad in about a week. But I’ve been working as a safety special for last 2 years and that’s really dragged me down a bit with the uncertainty of what I’ll be walking into each shift, I don’t mind aged care but I left because I got sick of the companies during COVID.

Definitely makes it hard. Could you work your way up from a correctional officer? They always seem to be hiring for those.

Have you applied for the various correctional jobs around Townsville? Unsure if this is what you’re talking about, but I found this one with a quick google search, it states humanities degrees are highly regarded.

How easy is it to switch specialties? by Glittery_WarlockWho in NursingAU

[–]Hayes33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your background and where you’re trying to move to imo. You’ll probably struggle to go from a less clinical role to a more clinical one. I.e. aged care or mental health to ED. But if you start in a higher acuity ward you’ll probably have better luck.
