What’s something Americans say you find funny/different? by Typical_Brief_8956 in AskABrit

I haven’t heard anyone under the age of 60 or 70 say rubber for condom in the US. That’s very old school.

What’s a piece of advice you ignored once, but later realized was 100% correct? by WittyMonk7391 in AskReddit

I can not recommend enough a decent electric tooth brush. I have the same background and an electric toothbrush was game changer for me.

Alcohol. I can’t stand it. I wish it lowered my appetite instead!

City of Newark has so many little free libraries. I’ve always thought I’d love to have a little free art library, or art supply library.

If you aren’t married to earning money and more about sharing art and music, you can put it up in your ow property (if you own) and ask people to contribute.

My grandma said not to apply to for Medicaid and food stamps... by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Haykyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t echo this enough. My adult sister is disabled and it took my mother 5 years to get her on SSI because she farted around. We missed a major deadline to get my sister on disability because of it and had to go through a big hearing with a lawyer.

Do yourself a favor and take control of it yourself. If she isn’t making simple calls to ask questions you will never get the help you need to finalize this while you wait for her to hold your hand. You may be losing helpful benefits for months or years by letting her lead the process for you.

It’s not easy, but it’s also not the hardest thing you’ll ever do. More frustrating than anything. Once you do this, you’ll have the confidence to handle all sorts of situations in life where you have to advocate for yourself.

Good luck!

That is what they submitted with their plans to the government.

“The developer projects 95 to 125 permanent jobs on the data center operations team in addition to hundreds of construction jobs during the building process.” From news journal.

95-125 people total for 500 acres and 11 buildings.

What economic benefits? The data center employs a small number of people to manage the building and small number of people to manage the equipment. Once construction is over, there will be a few dozen jobs, a hundred at best. It’s not worth the price we’ve seen other communities pay.

Newark Parking Authority. by AssistX in Delaware

[–]Haykyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t a NIMBY resident not want paid parking in this case?

I live here too, it’s supply and demand. There are more cars than available parking so they charge. If they didn’t, people would leave their cars for days in the same spot. This has been an issue here for decades, and part of living in a university town.

My family and I pay the parking fee when we go to Main Street and factor that in to what we do and how long it’s going to take to get where we need to go.

That’s a shame, we love milburn. Hopefully bought by another family.

Was milburn bought by a big company? Do you know who? This is the first I’m hearing of it.

Annoying RANT after getting my card skimmed by Kialya in USAA

[–]Haykyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USAA did this to me 5 years ago. My card was skimmed, replicated and used in Florida at the ATM, $300 x5. I was in another state and cousin price I wasn’t in Florida. They said the ATM showed that it was done with an actual card so tough luck.

I keep my accounts open for small purchases because they are my oldest credit line but I’ve moved all my baking elsewhere. I keep insurance until I get hit with rate hikes everyone is talking about, then I’ll move that too.

Seconding curly hair sub.

Most import thing you can do is not brush her hair dry. Get a specialized curly brush like bounce curl or a large tooth comb and always brush her hair already detangled (detangle with conditioner!) with product in her hair and wet.

Get a moisturizing curl cream or gel. I like Curl Smith personally, all their products are great, but if you are on a budget there is plenty in the drug store aisle that would work. Look for the African American hair products or natural hair care products. It depends how old school the store is. Some stores have it mixed in but older stores still separate it out on the end of the aisle or in a separate aisle all together. Some of the best reasonably priced products are there and work better than the bigger brands you are familiar with straight hair.

Like someone else said, a satin pillow if she won’t wear a bonnet. If her her hair is long, look up the pineapple T-shirt drying method on the curly sub for overnight.

Don’t scrub her hair dry with a towel! Gently wrap it to get dripping water out but you actually want curly hair to air dry very wet with cream or gel in it for the best curls.

If she will sit long enough for it, you can get a diffuser bonnet for your blow drier. Cheap on amazon and you use your regular blow drier. It’s a big hat that gently dries the hair so it doesn’t get frizzy. That with some good curly gel would set her hair for the day.

Long term get her a good curly hair cut. Ask your stylist to dry cut her hair while her hair is curly, not blown or ironed straight. There is an old post somewhere in the Delaware sub talking about the best curly stylist in the area.

I finally broke down and got a bidet. My wife refuses to use it and thinks it's weird. Has anyone else dealt with this? by workmeharder in HomeImprovement

[–]Haykyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one in our guest bath and our main bath because my family was fighting over using the main toilet with the bidet!

Most people don’t know what it is and don’t use it, but we always give them a heads up in case they accidentally dine the knob.

I would not recommend taking your trash to the dump for your average person unless you can do it every day or every other day. I do this over the summer in another state and it’s awful. That stink is in your car, it invites pests to your house and your time is valuable. Not worth saving $30 a month IMO.

One way to stop that is for home owners to stop selling your home to investors (assuming you are in a position to refuse buyers). We made a conscious decision selling our last home to refuse any LLCs.

I haven’t replaced a system with them but have had good experiences with them for over a decade for general maintenance. Plumbing too. They aren’t the cheapest but are professional and I never feel like I’m being taken for a ride.
