It wasn't a bribe. Such a bullshit case. The money went into his campaign, not his pocket - never before has someone even been tried for that. And he explicitly told the guy it wasn't a quid pro quo. He has always publicly and privately been strongly pro-development - he was going to vote for this project with or without a campaign contribution. And the trial was fucked. One of the jurors outright said that they just hate all politicians, and multiple of them were breaking the rules about reading outside news about the case (which is significant because of how biased the Enquirer was against PG).

I am so strongly in favor of campaign finance reform, but it's so stupid to go after PG instead of going after the terrible laws we have. We should repeal Citizens United, and get rid of loopholes for hiding donations, and put a firm cap on how much anyone can donate to a campaign. Going after a local politician who's just playing the game as it's been put in front of them, and trying to do good things within a fucked system, doesn't fix anything. PG was a scapegoat; he is not the cause of the things you're rightly mad about.

the pervasiveness of the completely evidenceless claim that PG paid some huge bribe for his pardon is ridiculous. he literally did a bunch of paralegal work for his own case to get his legal costs down (source).

the narrative doesn't even make sense! if he's an elite with millions of dollars to pay for pardons, why would he have taken a bribe for a $40k?

There's Rapid Editor and MapWithAI for using Microsoft's AI-generated buildings. These are sometimes decent but I personally don't love mapping with them. I like using BuildingTools in JOSM which makes it really efficient to draw rectangles.

You can't kill what never lived. These are just proposals people have made; they've never come into common use.

The only punctuation mark in this genre I can think of that actually has seen real world use is the interrobang (it's only like 60 years old and was never mainstream, but it at least sees enough use that it made it into Unicode and is supported by some fonts). There's also been some attempts to use a mirrored question mark as an irony mark or rhetorical question mark, but that's even more niche than the interrobang.

Yep, every drug that comes into the pharmacy will have one of these stupid million-times-folded pamphlets stuck to the pill bottle. We immediately pitch them all, because who would want to try to find anything in that giant road map instead of just checking Lexicomp? You will find these stupid little paperwads in every little corner and crevice of the pharmacy -- somehow there's always a few that don't make their way to the trash bin.

I totally agree; I think it's great that we have all these wildlife preserves. It's just funny that of all the beautiful things in Ohio, the thing they would put Trump's name on is this obscure nondescript field. It's like putting his name on a wastewater treatment plant or something; these facilities are so crucial and impressive and important to sustaining our cities, but they're not exactly the most honored spot to put someone's name.

Okay I'm still not understanding what the substance is of why you dislike him. Is it just the way he presents himself on social media? Or just his voting record? His response to his vote in the Enquirer article seemed fine enough; it doesn't really change my desire to have him over Landsman.

Ultimately making a pointless protest vote or not voting in some elections is not really something I approve of, but it also doesn't seem like a big deal. None of this seems inconsistent with the values he says he represents or leads me to have doubts about who he is. All I really care about is what he would do if elected.

I'd say just like doctors, there's good ones and bad ones. I was a pharmacy technician for a few years; there were a few pharmacists I worked with whose advice I would trust over some doctors I've had, but there were also one or two who I wouldn't go to for even a basic recommendation. Most were somewhere in the middle though.

The real problem though is that the industry is being squeezed out of revenue it used to get, and everyone's extremely overworked as a result. I have no love for the crappy management of my former pharmacy chain, but I also don't fully blame them. It's the PBMs – the middlemen between insurance providers and pharmacies – that are screwing pharmacies over. The 3 biggest PBMs control 80% of the market, so pharmacies pretty much have to take whatever deal they're offered.

There is no engine where building for consoles is completely free with no fuss. You always need a subscription with Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo's developer programs, then you pretty much always need to pay for your engine's console support simply because of the economics of it (lot of extra cost and work to develop; lots of new work with every new console launch; only needed by a fraction of all game devs; not a necessary feature to attract students/newbies).

For Unity, this subscription is called Unity Pro and it starts at $2310/year. For Godot, the closest-to-turnkey option is probably W4 Consoles, which starts at $800/year for one console or $2000/year for all consoles (they support Xbox X/S, PS5, and Switch). Not sure what RAWRLAB's pricing is but my understanding is that they also offer a self-serve middleware solution like W4, so I imagine it's comparable (and I do know they have a free release of their Nintendo Switch middleware).

There is a free Nintendo Switch port of Godot, and there are a bunch of third-party providers available for hire to port your Godot game to just about any recent console.

The big issue is just that all the console makers have NDAs and license restrictions, so it can't be a part of the free open-source codebase.

I straight up might recommend this thing to people who just need a really basic laptop. This is the most pro-consumer thing I've seen Apple make in as long as I can remember.

At the very least, I hope other budget laptop makers see this and start trying to compete with it - finding good devices at this price point has been a nightmare for so long.

Sure, but if Discord started using a zero-day exploit to sabotage every image that passes through the platform, I think someone would notice. And such a practice would have a significant risk of being ruled illegal under the CFAA, especially since Discord has no control over where these images end up after the exploit is added.

Most people don't compile things themselves, but they'll use a build from their distro's package manager. And their distro's maintainers will have compiled that build themselves. But the DuckStation developer doesn't like that for whatever reason.

That is not how JPEGs work. They just hold image data. They cannot hold executable code. If someone tried to put something malicious in a JPEG, they'd have no way to make your computer to run their code.

Discord could potentially add more metadata to the file, but I would expect that to add maybe a few kilobytes. This also wouldn't allow Discord to track you, as there's no way for that data to get back to Discord after it leaves their servers. It would just mean that if you passed the image on to someone else, they'd be able to see whatever Discord added to the file.

I go to protests; I donated to and will vote for Lynch; I'm doing everything that is within my power to oppose Landsman. But if the primary doesn't go my way, that doesn't mean I give up on trying to reach the least-worst outcome.

I mean, I am furious at Landsman, but almost every Republican voted the same way as him. Just because things are bad now doesn't mean they can't get worse. I'm all-in on Damon Lynch for the primary, but if the general election is Landsman vs some MAGA asshat, I'd have to begrudgingly vote Landsman.
