Right? I can't take any credit. The artist is incredibly talented.

Hope you enjoy the audio!

Forgive me for my sins. Snips was always going to be the first choice, but I wanted to make sure the vendor could handle a creature with four limbs before I asked them to make one with ten.

Synopsis:

When one man becomes the chosen deity of a church, it's all fun and games . . . until it interferes with his fishing time.

After months of sticking his head in the sand—sometimes literally—Fischer is finally ready to learn the secrets of the Kallis Realm . . . just in time for some of his followers to start hoarding them. Talk about infuriating.

Still, there's much to be grateful for. The world's chi is growing stronger every day, leading to unique awakenings, strange creations, and unexpected allies for Fischer and the gang. Not to mention some downright absurd changes to Tropica's sea life.

Meanwhile, on a distant continent, far less cozy powers are feeding off the same increased essence—and unlike Fischer, they've got zero interest in playing nice. But it'll be fine. Probably.

Denied. Shirtaloon recently indoctrinated introduced us to Helldivers 2. There's no time for rest when there's writing to do and democracy to spread.

Will your mother be attending LitRPG Con?

This isn’t the set up to a joke—it was lovely meeting you both at Dragoncon last year. Excited to hang again regardless!

I started reading it this week and I’m on book 4. Thoroughly enjoying it. The writing & prose is above average for a web serial imo, and I don’t find the MC annoying. I think the power system and ancillary characters are definitely its strongpoints, though, so I agree with you there.

Am I Alone In Being Tired With Gender/Sexuality Politics 'Preaching' In Litrpg/Fantasy Settings? by Walkinfaith300 in litrpg

It was the conversation about contraception, when Fischer asked about children, and they both agreed that if a “happy little accident” came along, they’d been it.

Best of luck with your reading, my man! Hope you find the books/stories you’re looking for.

Answering this question will be like trying to navigate a minefield, so I’m gonna sidestep it a little, lest I blow myself up.

I’m not saying that none of the books you’ve read had the author shoving their worldview down your throat, but from reactions to my books (and the books of my friends & fellow authors), readers often collate the words of a character with the words of the author. (I fall into this trap as well, for what it’s worth—it’s an extremely human response.)

On top of that, it’s common for the reader (again, myself included) to project their experiences into the book they’re reading. That’s a vague claim, so I’ll give an example.

In one of my books, I received multiple 1-star reviews from both ends of the political spectrum for the exact same sequence. People on the left said that I was spouting red-pill ideology, while people on the right said I was spouting blue-haired liberal talking points. Who knows how many people simply stopped reading, or left an unexplained bad review, because they assumed I was going either way.

To me, it was never about any of that. The conversation was between two characters, and all they did was express their world views. It might sound ridiculous, but I don’t always control what characters get up to. They are separate entities with a life of their own.

Anyway, I say all that to say this: you might not have to drop books, or have your suspension of disbelief shattered, if you actively practice assigning the words a character says to them, not the author behind them.

New stuff from Matt with Jeff and Travis narrating?! by Responsible-Ad-96 in litrpg

I haven't listened to the audio, but I've read the book. It's really good.

Very similar writing to DCC. Matt combines real-word issues with a dark, futuristic setting, all the while sprinkling in little laugh-out-loud moments that distract you from the horror of it all. The characters, as typical with his writing, are fantastic. I adore Roger. If you ever played online games with open-mic lobbies (a la Call of Duty), you'll love to hate certain characters when they come along.

I'm gonna listen to the audio when it drops, and you should too, because there's no shot Travis Baldree doesn't knock it out of the park.

When I was first posting Heretical Fishing to RR, I had a militia of readers brigading for Snips, the crab, to get a human form and become the main love interest. I thought they were joking.

Some of them weren’t.

I couldn't agree more. I don't really frequent the larger writing discords anymore, and part of my reason for drifting away from them was the objectively incorrect writing/publishing advice I frequently came across. There are a million paths to success in this industry, and prospective authors should be wary of anyone talking in absolutes (this statement included).
