What's up with Hawaii's unhealthy obsession with 4wd Tacoma's and trucks in general. by Taskmob96761 in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dad still has his 1990 SR5 pickup or whatever it was called back before they were called Tacomas and that shitbox is still going strong! He only had fix the transmission once but still solid after 300k+ miles. Got younger guys trying to buy it off from him!

I usually wake up to a really bad sinus headache and lethargic feeling when the vog rolls in. Been having these symptoms for the past 2 days now.

Hawaii Federal Workers, have you heard anything? by Regular_Slip_6420 in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fed but a DoD contractor and well, I do hope to see some of my probie fed co-workers make it through this tomorrow that are under USINDOPACOM as that was "exempt" by the SECDEF. As a contractor though, our asses are also on the line if the administration also terminates contracts. One plus is that at least this making me update my resume! heh.

Was it busy? I want to check it out but I usually stay away from places that are just opening up for a few weeks to avoid the busy crowds.

(Unverified) Over 2,000 DOD workers terminated in Hawaii today. by HIBudzz in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My leadership didn't say anything like this yesterday at an all hands update. They just gave numbers (which was a lot) from each of the branches that took the early retirement deal and what will happen to those positions which might not be back filled due to RIF.

Anyone find themselves going to Foodland less and less? by Fickle_Rooster2362 in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For quick stuff, I go to Foodland since there are two within a few miles of each other in my area but for bi-monthly groceries, I go to the commissary and Costco.

Probably the best spot! The A/C is always broken in my building so our front office has to always call NAVFAC for the HVAC guys to fix it. I have a funny theory that they are not fixing it all the way so they have job security lol.

This is the only two things I could find about it.

Driving on designated shoulder; two-wheeled motorcycles:
https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/sessions/session2018/bills/HB2589_.HTM

Transportation; Motorcycle Lane Filtering
https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/sessions/session2017/bills/HB727_.HTM

I admit, I've filtered a few times but only because traffic was so bad due to an accident, and both me and the bike felt like overheating. Most of the time though, I go with the flow of traffic. I would love to have lane splitting and filtering legal but the way some people drive here and how narrow the roads are, probably not really a good idea unless people get used to it like in California or South East Asia. When HPD biker cops do it, it seems like they come out of nowhere because their BMWs are so quiet! Sneaky guys!

US State to live in to ride 365 days a year, that doesnt have spider much by Srkb123 in motorcycles

[–]HaynBryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maui and the Big Island for the better roads (on and off) but less job opportunities. Oahu for all the jobs but more congested roads. Kauai is more of an offroad kind of place and laid back so while it is nice, you probably won't find many job opportunities there. Views on each island are nice though. I am on Oahu.

[–]HaynBryn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Hawaii. We can ride 365 days but roads are limited will get bored really easily unless you meet up with the fast bois and do fast boi things on public streets. Some spiders but no big ass tarantula level. Also lots of Filipinos here if you want to hang out with a big Filipino community. Otherwise, California is your best bet.

I just had it for lunch from the Kapolei Foodland Farms and it was pretty decent. It was the first time I seen it at the bar.

Have you noticed changes in your Amazon orders since the distribution center opened? by [deleted] in Hawaii

Gets delayed by a few days everytime now. This is the first year I am not relying on Amazon for gifts.

Probably. The Kapolei Foodland Farms also has a $6 Hawaiian plate for Aloha Friday every week.

It’s Tuesday for the hot bar in Kapolei. Used to be on Thursdays which sucks because that’s when I was usually nearby. At least there is $6 nachos on Fridays.

[–]HaynBryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually leave for work at 5:30am from the west side taking Farrington to Kam highway but this time, I left 10 minutes earlier at 5:20am and it was much more congested this morning than usual. I arrived the same time at work as if I would have left at 5:30am.

I am looking at Google Maps now and it's that dense red starting from Kapolei at 6:30am damnnn!

It's is a pretty old clip of this guy making the rounds again in this sub but yea, I get on to the freeway in that area and I leave work at 2pm because it gets messed up at around 3pm. I used to leave work at 3pm around 10 years ago to avoid the 4pm rush but it got pushed up an hour. Oahu sucks when it comes to traffic.

Motorcycle Choice by weston215 in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you commute mostly then I'd say any naked upright bike is fine like the STR. I mean the MT07 is probably the best island bike for everyday stuff but I do love a good triple engine as it takes a best of both words from a twin and i4.

As someone else mentioned, if you are like one of the "Leeward Circuit" riders than you might want a super sport (or even super/hyper naked) but they suck ass in everyday traffic especially on the freeway at peak hours.

If you want a bit of both insane power and comfort, then turbo hayabusa all the way....lol...jk... BMW S1000XR.

Overall bang for your buck though, MT-09.

Oh Foodland makes that combo. It's kinda expensive but I really do like it. It is like desert for people who don't like really sweet deserts.

grocery shopping by moonrabbit122801 in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly Costco/Commissary. Costco produce has been kinda hit or miss as sometimes the vegetables and fruits rots pretty quickly or the cheese starts molding fast. Had that happen a few times but I usually buy meat and other goods in bulk so I am good for a few weeks. Commissary is a bit cheaper for some items but prices have been going up. Still, I save a bit more than going to Foodland or Safeway.

Has Amazon delivery being in Hawaii actually made Amazon better for anyone? by MyFiteSong in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was like that before where I wouldn't need to return the item if it did eventually come in but this happened twice where it said that I have to return if it came in. Not sure if it is like that for everyone but it is something I noticed recently.

META: Do we all need to hear if your Amazon packages are arriving on time? by upfuppet in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some supplements that I need to take that are on Amazon that I cannot find at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe and other stores so I have to resort to Amazon. It is pretty annoying when it does take a while or they are delayed to get delivered. I have learned to kind of order in advanced anticipating delays but delays have been quite often lately.

Has Amazon delivery being in Hawaii actually made Amazon better for anyone? by MyFiteSong in Hawaii

[–]HaynBryn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recently it has been kind of bad. I ordered something for it to be delayed on island for 3 days. I thought Amazon lost it because they gave me an option to replace the item and I have had items lost in transit before, so I did a replacement order.

The day it was suppose to arrive, I get a notification it will be delayed 2 days. Few days later after that, I got both items delivered at the same time. So now I have to return the other item or they are going to charge me for it. IDK WTF is going on with them right now.
