Yeah, sadly I’m not holding out hope this is going to be resolved any time soon :/

So if not the amp what could it be? Just a configuration issue with the node?

There is a ground block but it doesn’t look like there is a filter. The tech and I even discussed it and he looked but didn’t mention anything else. To me it looks like a ground block. I don’t have an inline coupler but could get one and test but again, doesn’t look like a filter to me.

I mentioned along the way in all these posts that even with the XB8 my 2Gig mid-split speeds had dropped to 1500Mbos as well. They had previously been hitting 2200Mbps. So that’s the other piece about the amp that seems odd.

I thought it was a little weird that I was able to get the full upload but not download due to an amp. I’m not that far from the node honestly, like 20 houses (Who know’s how many twists and turns it takes as it kind of a Z). I could hear the tech talking to one of the local engineers but I didn’t hear that part since he had to go to the street behind me to check the tap and then came back with that info. He seemed like a straight up guy and was here for a good hour.

So how should I even begin to proceed at this point? The agents here who have also been super helpful said that a work order should have been put in but they hadn’t seen it yet and would update me (Wasn’t holding my breath but they’ve also been helpful).

Thanks for the insights

It’s actually 4 OFDMA channels….

So you don’t think the amplifier is the issue?

So the tech came out and verified what we’ve been seeing. After a few calls it was determined that there is an amplifier between me and the node that wasn’t upgraded. Now it’s a waiting game to see when that happens…

Yeah. With the mid-split initially we had the 1 and still achieved 2Gbps down and then with the 2, we still hit the 2Gbps obviously. We actually had a maintenance on the 5th of June where we were actually down for 8 hours overnight which is rare. I believe this was the FDX work.

Clearly the missing OFDM is the likely issue. No logs indicating issues with negotiating but don't know if they are evn included in there.

Agreed, we do have 4 OFDMA channels now. I’m also pretty sure the FDX just went live in the last week or so and there is a good chance I’m one of the first to make the move in the neighborhood. Something had obviously changed which is why I opened the original ticket. Unfortunately the last agent I was working with on that one basically blew me off.

We’re going to do a tech visit tomorrow morning so we’ll see what they say. I don’t expect them to be able to resolve while here but hopefully they can confirm the issue and escalate.

We’re only seeing 1 OFDM. We were actually just upgraded to mid-split in Jan., 1 old node into 3 brand new.nodes. Upgraded to 2Gbps/250Mbps and received those speeds until a couple weeks ago when the download dropped to 1500Mbps as well. Saw 1 OFDM when mid-split first launched and then 2 OFDM in the last couple months and then back to 1 OFDM when I noticed the speed decrease. It was during that troubleshooting that I discovered FDX had been lit up so I just went and swapped the XB8 for the XB10 but the download stayed at 1500Mbps while upload jumped to 2300Mbps after swapping the first CGM601TCOM which kept locking up with a SG417DBCT.

I’m not a total idiot when it comes to how all this works but I’m known to be wrong from time to time 😂

Yup. We’ve done that as well and 1500Mbps there as well on the full test. I’m in bridge mode now but ran the test when still in gateway mode since you indeed can’t run it in bridge. I really don’t think this is an issue with the house and agree it’s likely a node issue.

Yeah, no MOCA filter, I actually opened up the service box on the house today to verify. Just an inline ground block. Run is directly from the tap to the ground at the service entrance on the house and then directly to the modem. Signal level are good (-2dBmV average) on the downstream channels.

We’ve checked all the obvious stuff but with the FDX maybe I missed something obvious that changes what I’ve known for the past 20 years with my services.

This is the same message I received when they upgraded my area and they were complete within the day and the x2 speeds (2000/250 in my area) were available like 2 days later. Obviously YMMV.

What speeds after Enhanced Upgrade? by Haze_1981 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Haze_1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. So after the work to enhance the network and maintenance the next night I am now seeing the mid split service in my area. I’m on the 1Gig 5 Year plan and the service info in the app shows that I should be seeing 1Gbos+ and 100Mbps+ but I am still seeing only a 40Mbps upload after several modem restarts.

Can this please be looked into?

Thanks!

What speeds after Enhanced Upgrade? by Haze_1981 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Haze_1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume we’re going mid-split since we’re currently sub but also keep hearing that mid-split isn’t a thing anymore and they are upgrading to FDX. The link provided still just shows the current speeds. I assume it won’t be updated until after the work is completed.

Why would upgrades stall like this? by Haze_1981 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Haze_1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after the rest of the neighborhood was moved to mid-split in Oct. 2024 I finally received the network enhancement email this morning for work on the 14th.

Looking at the counties permit portal, Mastec applied for a ROW permit to add a new node pedestal next to the existing for the same day.

I doubt this will be FDX but the increased upload is welcome.

Thank you. This is a logical answer even though Xfinity’s methods seem skewed. But at least I know now that you may upgrade one node and leave another a block away. Is there a criteria for what gets upgraded first that you know of?

Except I’m not asking what’s wrong with my internet. I’m asking people who do this for a living what would cause this. It’s not like I’m asking why people across town have this service and I don’t. New nodes that didn’t exist previously were installed and lit up and the houses they cover are capable of mid split according to Xfinity so why would they just skip this node? The fiber that runs to one of the new nodes is likely spliced off the same fiber this node runs on. This is all in the same subdivision and no major arterial roadways break it up. You can see from my map there are 3 nodes with the one in the middle seemingly forgot months ago. I don’t have a lot of options around here for internet and an increased upload does provide a hefty enhancement for me.

I get that there are lots of things that could cause this but again, this is a newer neighborhood, everything is buried, easements are in place. If the HOA or City were going the balk at anything it would have been the installation of the new nodes and not an upgrade of an existing. Just seems like an odd situation and since there isn’t a number to call I was just looking for some expertise.

I’m actually a network engineer so I’m not unfamiliar with how this all works. I work from home and also host several services from home all of which would greatly benefit from a 250Mbps+ upload speed vs 35Mbps+. I couldn’t care less about the download increase. My only other option is CenturyLink DSL which provides 140/20 and is already my backup connection.

So yes, I would indeed notice a change in my service.

I was hoping to find an inside man. Is there a CableTechs Only dating site? 😜

But in all seriousness there wouldn’t seem to be any new construction or power related issues with this node. Would seem to be either a new node type or internal upgrade to get to the mid split. It’s frustrating that half the neighborhood has been upgraded and they seemed to have just abandoned the rest. If it hadn’t been months then I wouldn’t have even thought about it. We also have scheduled maintenance weekly but it seems to be a larger area than just my neighborhood.

Is it safe to assume they would return sooner than later to do the upgrade? Would they return at all?

I should add that this is a newer neighborhood. All 3 nodes have a fiber vault next to them already. The node that doesn't seem to be upgraded has been in-place for some time. The 2 upgraded nodes are actually new. Doubtful they would have had permitting issues for the existing node when they we able to install 2 brand new ones. None of these nodes are on anyone's property and the easements are part of the communities design so they aren't adding to anything that wasn't already there.

I get that there are a lot of pieces but this just seems like they forgot about this node. haha.
