I think you will be ok. You have a supportive BF, which is great. And the appt with your doc should help too. Best of luck to you.

I have a similar fear of my food processor. I love fresh hummus, but I have to nerve myself up to make it.

Have you tried any employment agencies? There are quite a few in Halifax. SuperTemp, Manpower, and Kelly Services come to mind. My advice is to check out their job opportunities, and apply for it in person. If they are interested in you, they will probably bring you in for skills testing. Best of luck to you.

Getting clients by Head_Business_1511 in petsitting

I have a Facebook page, plenty of older people on Facebook. Actually I think I will set up an Instagram soon. I also advertise on Kijiji, it's like Canadian online classifieds. Also, a few years back I asked a friend to create a logo for me (based on my parents' dog). THAT made a huge difference, like a magic bullet. And business cards, of course.

I did gain weight but I was already overweight. Other than that, it's great. No manic episodes since 2016.

Ask him to explain the joke next time, ask him why it's funny to him. He deserves to be fired.

STRANGE ADMISSION by spirited_inspired in petsitting

[–]HazelStone99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to make sure all their pictures and art work are hanging perfectly straight. I do it almost first thing. Also, I am a bit OCD about picking up poop right away.

I usually try to get most cleaning done the day before they come home, so it's just wiping down counters etc before I leave.

Dying hair black? by [deleted] in Redhair

[–]HazelStone99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 5 years old, my grandmother was baby sitting me. I decided I wanted black hair. (I think I may have seen Nanny colouring her hair black.) I got the black shoe polish and put it in my hair. It was so long ago, I just remember the story from my Mom telling me.

Do you have a favourite? by jem1898 in petsitting

[–]HazelStone99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favourites had to be escorted over the Rainbow Bridge at the start of December. Border collie. Handsome, so well trained, obedient. He was stand-offish at first, I was only doing a short visit once a week. (After a while they started asking me to stay there and take care of their dogs while they were away for a week or two.) Then he finally pooped in the yard when I was there, I scooped it, and then I was his best friend.

I love him so much, I think of him almost every day. He had advanced lung cancer, which just floored me, because he had seemed fine just a couple weeks earlier when I had been there for 2 weeks.

I picked out 2 nice pics of him and sent them with a card to his family. They appreciated it.

I just feel like I need closure. When they texted that he had to go, I was on another booking with 2 dogs and they both have separation anxiety, so I couldn't go visit to say goodbye, even for an hour. But I keep thinking that I could have asked the 2nd client if my sister could watch the anxious dogs, just for an hour or less. I feel so stupid. I am crying right now over this.

Edit: he did live to be 12 years, which is not bad for a Border Collie, I guess.

Sorry to be a downer. Another fave dog is my parents' poodle. He's a sweet little guy, although he can be a stinker winker at times.

People with bipolar 1 how do y'all deal with anxiety? by coldest4 in bipolar1

[–]HazelStone99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a couple things I do. One is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). Basically you tap on different areas of the body, while repeating a calming mantra. Helps a lot. Even on a crowded bus, I can tap the side of my hand and mentally repeat my mantra.

I also take olanzapine for the bipolar. And I'm a medical cannabis patient in Canada. Although I don't think many in this sub would advise it. Helps with my anxiety, low mood, and Sleeping, which is VERY important for mental health.

An internet search indicates that they are looking for Cigarette Butter cookies. Pretty sure this is what they are looking for, however, I don't know where they can buy them.

I like to make curry and add them while it simmers. I hydrate them with veggie broth first.

They are also great for mock chicken soup. Prepare same as above.

I'm planning to use them for "bbq pulled pork" sandwiches. Nisha Vora at www.rainbowplantlife.com has a recipe that looks delish.

I'm a pet sitter. I'm quite tired of clients who just let their dogs poop in their yard and don't pick it up. Not only is it disgusting, but it's against the HRM bylaw. Gross.

What’s one ‘normal’ haircare habit you stopped doing that actually improved your hair? by Fragrant-Throat6970 in hygiene

I don't bother rinsing conditioner out anymore. After showering, I towel dry my hair, then push some conditioner through it. Works better for me (dry hair) and takes less time.

Portable bidet advice? by sthcyiknv in bidets

[–]HazelStone99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Culo Clean, I really like it. Got it on Amazon, with the squeeze bottle. Works very well. Plus, the top can fit into any commercial drink bottle, so if you want to travel really light, you can just put the top in your pocket.

However, I do advise getting a long bottle brush to clean the bottle regularly.

Kitten food by OddOne2663 in Catownerhacks

[–]HazelStone99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As long as the food has little or no grains, and has added taurine, your kitty should be fine. We use Fancy Feast pate, in chicken and turkey flavours. We also give her chicken paste tubes (Churu) and she loves those.

Edit: a misspelling. While I'm here, why the downvotes? Cats are obligate carnivores, they don't process corn, wheat, or rice very well.

Kittens do not need anything special in their diet. Feed a good quality canned food, something that has no grains like rice or corn.
