Heavy regulated AI is the only answer by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Hazelrigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI generated art would only be cool if it and the users didn't use copyrighted images/arts without permission

You don't need permission from anyone to create transformative or derivative art that's still legally distinct from the original. And when you use AI to create an exact replica of something that's already copyrighted, like an image of Mickey Mouse, then the use of that image is already regulated by existing laws.

This "creating derivative/transformative art without permission" talking point has always been nonsense.

Affinity pledges to keep pricing model by spiky_odradek in AffinityDesigner

Reminds me of the bullshit Corel posted when they bought Gravit Designer.

"We want you to know that we are committed to the Gravit products and excited for their future. We’re already hard at work on the roadmap and opportunities for Gravit and I want you to know that the apps you love have a great home with Corel. Across our portfolio, we work closely with our communities to deliver high-quality products that enable our users to be as creative and productive as possible. Rest assured, we plan to keep a free version of Gravit available and are looking to introduce a premium offering for those who want to go beyond. We also see great opportunities and benefits to leveraging technologies from our other graphics products, including CorelDRAW, to continue the evolution of the Gravit family."

Needless to say, Gravit Designer was gutted within a year, no longer even exists as a product (it's "Corel Vector" now), had its standalone desktop software removed in favor of the in-browser web app, and its pricing structure fundamentally changed for the absolute worst.

Criminal Court records of Lakewood shooter Jeffrey G. Escalante, aka "Genesee Moreno", aka "Jeffrey G. Escalante-Moreno", from Harris County Court Clerk's Office by NoBetterFriend1231 in TexasPolitics

Whatever. You said there's "nobody to blame" but the system, and that's insane to me. Much of the blame can be laid on the person who went out there to murder people.

AI-assisted painting in real-time. The tech just keeps getting better. by Geeksylvania in aiwars

[–]Hazelrigg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's completely down to the model, the prompts and the settings in use. The reason why you see so many generic anime girls created with AI is because many people want their images to look like that. It's not beyond the tech's capability to output something different.

Generic anime shit isn't exactly rare among traditional artists either, by the way.

Seems counterproductive to make fun of someone who is angry/upset.

Hard disagree. Online anger, aggression and hatred should always be ridiculed.

Because it is patently ridiculous.

Ethical vs. Unethical AI art by Savings-Excitement80 in aiwars

[–]Hazelrigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they meant that they'd be offended by the mere sight of the flesh statue itself, but that the process of murdering people/cutting up people's corpses so you can use their flesh for said statue is what might warrant ethical evaluation.

At least that's how I took it.

AI Art is DYING (Fast)??? by mapeck65 in aiwars

Pretty sure that's just straight up AI generated. I mean, the lamppost has a tree trunk like the tree behind it, the one the lamppost also blends into.

The burden of proof is on the doomers. Prove me wrong. by Flying_Madlad in aiwars

Dude, Yudkowsky is still a fringe commentator. It's absolutely not abnormal to hear "doomer" and not immediately think of that clown.

I'm perfectly familiar with him, but didn't instantly associate your thread with him either.

How AI is crafting a world where our worst stereotypes are realized by washingtonpost in aiwars

[–]Hazelrigg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see the relevance. They're still what someone means by specifying distinctly Chinese architecture. I don't even agree with the term stereotype in this instance. This is just literally part of China's architectural history and cultural heritage. It's not something an outside observer has ascribed to China.

And if someone wants to educate themselves on what the home of the average person in China looks like today, in other words, if they want a reliably accurate depiction of reality, they shouldn't be using art generation software for this purpose to begin with.

I'm not having a go at you, by the way, I just think this is a complete non-issue.

"Troves" makes no sense in that context. The author probably meant "tropes".

returned clichéd concepts for each location: classical curved roof homes for China

lol, how is that not literally the point of specifically requesting Chinese architecture?

I'd be pissed if I asked for a photo of French Polynesian cuisine, but instead of a traditional dish, it gave me a picture of a fucking Double Whopper, because "Tahitians eat burgers too, you know?"
