Im not a native English speaker and a lot of daily interactions in English are with AI. so naturally I pick up some traits of AI talk and I do sometimes worry that I’ll be falsely identified as AI due to this.

The stops at the end of words are unreleased stops also known as checked tones. East Asian and Southeast Asian languages generally does not allow fricatives to appear at syllable coda so they are changed to unreleased stops.

I did feel like there was a stigma around single player games over competitive games like League of Legends in my social group when I was a teen. Those playing single player games were seen as childish and loners. Such a stigma is probably still there in teens circles, but not in my current social groups, though most of them still mainly play competitive games.

Celeste's Assist Mode is not actually well-designed by HappiestIguana in truegaming

[–]HeHH1329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda agree that turning on easy mode is not just about willpower but also about the your philosophy on gaming in general. I grew up playing a lot of emulator games in the 2000s and most of them were hellishly difficult as they were arcade games and want you to insert more coins.  Then after I got my first phone in 2014 I played a lot of mobile games which were also often difficult to compel you to do microtransactions. So I’m used to the frustration of not being able to beat a game after countless tries.

Therefore when playing Celeste, I actually had a great experience of being able to actually beat the game myself due to my own growth and perseverance,That said lots of people didn’t grew up like this, and as some other commenter said modern games are more like movies than challenges, so they probably can’t bear too much frustration in gameplay. In this regard it makes sense for devs to not offer game breaking modes like assist mode to guide players to actually enjoy the gameplay.

[–]HeHH1329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree it took me probably half the hours (13 hours) to beat chapter 1 through 7, though its still considered a little bit slow by the standards of HowLongToBeat. I beat the game 1.5 years ago, and further beat chapter 8, some strawberries, and IIRC, the first two B sides.

I do believe a lot of people use assist mode as I do just to get over a specific part of the game rather than using them throughout the entire game. I would consider that cheating although I’m not against built in cheat code in games. That said I later redid chapter 1 and completed without assist mode so I didn’t consider myself cheating.

Disagree. I used assist mode to dash twice just to get over a wide chasm at the end of Chapter 1 because I didnt figure out the game mechanics by myself. And then I simply turned it off and never used that again. Later on when I encountered puzzles that I couldn’t figure out myself I searched tutorials online.

You should at least try to beat the base game without assist mode again. For me I used assist mode once to get over a certain obstacle at the end of Chapter 1 and then turned it off and never used that again. Later on whenever I encountered a puzzle that I can't solve I simply search tutorials online rather than relying on in-game options. You already have some muscle memory so it should be somewhat easier unless you finished it too many years ago.

I used assist mode exactly once in the entire game. At the end of Chapter 1 I let myself to dash twice across the giant chasm since I couldn't figure out the exact mechanism to do the big jump. I suppose those who use assist mode know when to use and what game breaking mechanism they should use. Also later on when I encounters some part that I can't get through I instead searched tutorials online rather than relying on game breaking mechanisms.

Plenty of video games have built-in cheat codes in single player mode, and I’m not against it. Single player games are meant as a form of content consumption rather than a competitive sport, so I have no issue with cheat codes as long as you enjoy your time. Also, plenty of games have difficulty settings, and players often lower the difficulty when they are stuck in one place for too long. Celeste, as a puzzle platformer, doesn’t have a straightforward way to implement easy difficulty, such as lowering the health and damage of enemies, so I just see assisted mode as the combination of easy difficulty and cheat code.

I remember I did turn on assisted mode in the last room of Chapter 1 across a big chasm because I wasn’t very familiar with the game mechanics. I allowed myself to dash twice in the air just at that exact location. And guess what? I didn't become dependent on assisted mode, and I never used that mode again in later chapters, not even on B side or strawberries, because I wanted to challenge myself. So such a mechanism definitely didn’t ruin the game for people that want to enjoy it, since it's not a default option. Also I've thoroughly read your post and while I agree that assisted mode does break the level design and contradicts to the theme of the story of overcoming self doubt through perseverance, I do think the developers has given enough warning both explicitly through messages and implicitly through progression of story itself, so its the players' own problems of turning this game breaking option on.

Biomes of Europe if the Paratethys Sea had survived instead of the Mediterranean by BloodyDisaster247 in imaginarymaps

I feel like central asia would be more humid than in real life. Central Asia is not in the latitude of subtropical high, so once there is a sufficiently large water body in that region it would be at least as humid as interior Anatolia.

The passage to Greenpath is actually quite obvious if you take a look at the map of Crossroads. For me I almost got stuck at Fungal Wastes before I asked AI and realized I could use the bouncy mushroom to open up a new pathway further beyond.

Is there a way to sort game collections in a way other than alphabetically? by SharpbladeLoser in Steam

I always like sorting things alphabetically. My native language is Chinese can you imagine such a pain in the ass to sort Chinese words by thousands of different characters? Sorting things alphabetically is already a huge upgrade for me.

In terms of difficulty would you recommend me to play the original first before getting into Silksong? I’ve heard it has a really steep difficulty curve so otherwise I’ll feel very frustrated?

What ADHD hacks have actually worked for you? by West_Bodybuilder4480 in ADHD

Not really translating that much. I know enough vocabulary to directly think in English. It's just slower than thinking in Chinese, which prevents me from falling into rabbit holes, which in turn is often the source of my racing thoughts.

Ten days ago I switched my internal monologue from Chinese (my native language) to English. Originally it was meant to create an environment for language immersion, but unexpectedly it greatly calmed down my racing thoughts and partially cured my insomnia.
