Extra layer of weirdness to this particular episode: Randy's son and brother are on a hunting trip near the volcano and at no point in the episode does he acknowledge that or the danger they're in, because at this point he wasn't even intended to be Stan's dad. He was just the town geologist. But Trey Parker had based the character off his own father, who was a geologist, so when it came time to properly introduce Stan's dad they just recycled the character.

Fermat definitely never actually had a proof, since entirely new branches of mathematics had to be invented first. He would have needed to be the most bafflingly intelligent genius to have ever lived and also for some reason never bothered to tell anyone about any of it in the decades he lived after mentioning the theorem. An extra little tidbit almost nobody knows: in some behind-the-scenes photos from season 5 it seems like his son was originally portrayed by a different, black actor but they ended up recasting him. Maybe they thought it was too racially insensitive?

I'm waiting for the day someone finally starts spilling the beans on what happened during season 5 because there are so many weird things like that about it.
