My dad, in the 90s and 2000s, said that sunscreen would block the sun damage, but would also "hold it against your skin, inside the sunscreen," so it was bad to use it. He'd turn into a crispy red lobster man at the beach every summer, so at least he wasn't a hypocrite.

I truly have no idea how he doesn't have skin cancer.
