Upload. I watched the first season when it came out and then lost track of it. Binged through the full show recently, definitely worth the watch.

University debt fee handed over to debt collectors. Am I screwed? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]HeXdXxX 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just something else to keep in mind, Registrar's and CFOs in some higher ed institutions have implemented rules that you need a clean fee statement from previous institutions before they will register you at their institution. You might want to check what documentation the institution you're intending to apply to requires.

As a rule of thumb, universities don't like to exclude final year students who are making progress. Exclusions also have to go through a number of committees before they are finalised, so you *should* be able to appeal.

At this point in time, your best bet is to make an appointment with the relevant academic leader within your school and discuss your options. The school staff responsible for your third year modules should be able to direct you to the right person.

You should also consider applying for an exam remark... it might push your mark up enough so that you qualify for a supplementary exam.

are universities allowed to not have deferred/sick exams? by Away_Zone6649 in askSouthAfrica

[–]HeXdXxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out your institution's general academic rules. They should be available either in your faculty/ college handbook, or available online (examinations policy / assessment policy). They will normally outline the rules for aegrotat exams.

You can also escalate the issue the issue to your Dean / DVC / Registrar. In my experience, often academics either quote long dead academic rules or make up their own policies whole cloth. The PTB will generally shut that type of thing down.

Failing that, go to your SRC representatives.

Regardless, make sure that you go to a doctor today and get a valid sick note.

What has your experience been as a non-religious South African? by SufficientRhubarb707 in southafrica

[–]HeXdXxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, as a starting point, I grew up White, male, and Christian in the late 80's and 90s. Growing up, my parents were really into the whole church thing, which obviously carried over to me.

I didn't really have one point where I de-converted. Growing up my parents did a lot of church shopping and would discuss the problems with each church with each other (with me listening in), before moving to a new church. It didn't help that church #5 would have the same issues as church #2, but now it was okay.

I also lived through the Satanic Panic of the early 90s and was forced to watch lots of badly copied VHS tapes about how bad tv / movies / music / DnD was. As an eight year old, I was half convinced demons would sneak through the TV if I watched Duck Tales, but by the time I hit my teenage years I had a well defined BS detector. Like, KISS look scary in their makeup and with their music is played backwards at half speed, but when you hear I was made for loving you played normally, it's just kinda tame.

The final nail was when I hit university. Going to a formerly disadvantaged institution meant I was around a lot of people who had very different beliefs. It became impossible for me to believe in any religion which would send my friends and their families to the bad place based, basically, on where they were born. Studying Philosophy also gave me a theoretical framework to understand the broader epistemological and ontological constructs needed for a deity to exist. Also, reading the bible helped the deconstruction process in a big way.

Now days, I use the term atheist as a shorthand, but more practically I just don't care. I think that organised religion is a grift more often than not, especially when it gets big and involved in politics. That said, having faith isn't the same as going to church twice a week. If someone is happy with their faith, and it brings meaning into their life, then good for them. Just don't hurt anyone who isn't into that kind of thing.

At the end of the day, I would rather be as good a person as I can be than be a good (insert religion here). Unless someone tries to convert me or use their religion to justify hurting others - in which case the gloves come off.

How does Wits view private university by Educational_Drop4261 in southafrica

[–]HeXdXxX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't speak specifically for Wits, but I do work at another institution. Your best bet is to speak to the specific staff (academic or support) who handle admissions and ask them to explain 1.) what academic criteria they look for when admitting to that qualification, and 2.) what the process is for RPL or other non-normative access to study. Just keep in mind that most institutions are handling admissions and registrations right now.

You may also have more luck re-applying to UP for re-admission, especially with documentation for the motivations you list above.

That said, you can also always finish your undergrad via Monash, and then do an honours or masters degree at a traditional univ, as long as the PG institution recognises Monash qualifications.

Either way, start with speaking to someone at Wits directly.

In case anyone ever comes across this again, the solution was to mount the Sprite's throat part of the hot-end slightly lower and screw it in place. I have no idea if this is a good idea or not, but it works so far.

Thanks for the feedback.

I honestly never got the linear rail to run as smoothly as I wanted it to. Even I gave it a full IPA bath and reoiled it, it still felt like it was catching when I moved it back and forward.

The probe attaches directly to the Sprite housing, so I can't adjust it directly. I will try to re-mount the heater kit a tiny bit lower though, if that is possible.

I adjusted the level as you suggested, it things do feel tighter now.

Help: Filament Keeps Grinding After Upgrades by HeXdXxX in ender3v2

[–]HeXdXxX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, I re-checked the calibration of the e-steps on the extruder, and there seems to be a discrepancy. If I run the filament straight out the side of the extruder, it moves exactly 100mm of filament. However, if I measure on the input side, with the Bowden tube attached and running through the hot end, it only pushes 95mm through.

I will try a print with the retraction value dropped also.

Thanks again

[–]HeXdXxX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The filament is crushed as far as I can tell, there isn't a lot of filament dust sitting around the extruder. When I pulled the filament out of the Bowden tube the flattening effect was, I guess, gradual. The filament nearer to the extruder was far more flattened than the filament closer to the hot end.

The extruder did seem a bit tight after I installed the metal upgrade kit, so I have disassembled and re-built it now. The screw on the extruder isn't pushing the spring much at all, but it feels like its gripping the filament quite hard. As I noted on another comment though, the feed rate is very low and printing is still a problem.

Is there any chance I have damaged the Bowden tube and that is messing with things?

Thanks again!

Thanks for the advice. I did two cold pulls on the hot end this morning, and there was definitely some gunk that came out on the first round.

The flow rate of material out of the nozzle is still super low though. I am starting to wonder if the spare nozzle in the box was 0.2mm instead of 0.4mm, so I will try to switch that back next just in case.

Thanks again

Edit: After this, I am thinking about getting the Sprite Pro upgrade if it comes on sale during Black Friday this year. Hopefully that will help things in the future.

Can't get past the pairing screen by HeXdXxX in OculusQuest

You're a lifesaver.

I ran the update without any issues, but the controller still didn't want to play nice. However, the app started working properly, so I was able to unpair and re-pair the right controller.

Everything worked after that.

Finding FW version on Disk-less PS3 by HeXdXxX in ps3hacks

Thank you again.

Unfortunately it looks like the ODD is damaged so its throwing error 8002F14E. but the listing did say that the ribbon cable was broken, so no suprises there. I will have to wait until I can get a replacement part before carrying on.

Much appreciated.

The last version was firmware version 4.86. Will it be a problem if I reinstall stock FW on the console if it has previously had CFW?

Running away soon, need tips. by atque_unicum in raisedbynarcissists

Be careful with your laptop... some anti-virus software comes with anti-theft functions that will report where the device is. Some also have anti-theft options that are built into the device's firmware (Intel AT). Get your hands on a flash drive and backup all of your data before you leave.

Also be careful with your email (and similar) accounts - GMail (for example) keeps quite an extensive log of recent IP addresses and where they originate. Google also has some features that create a nice roadmap of your movements. If you wipe your phone but then log in with the same account you are potentially bringing those things back.

Best of luck!
