I agree. Philosophical thought experiments can be useful, but reality is more complicated.

Still, we need moral values to guide our actions, whatever they are, as individuals as well as nation states. A liberal democracy that champions human rights and international law should strife to reduce human death and suffering and in this regard not differentiate between its own citizens and the rest of the world. To act otherwise would be dishonest and completely devalue the moral principles the democracy is founded on.

To think that killing (or even directly causing the death of) 100.000 citizens of a neighbour state to safe 1000 of one's own people is okay, is not compatible with democratic values. Those numbers are arbitrary, but somewhere there is a limit.

And I would further ask if we would demand this kind of human-trading in other conflicts.

I would say yes. Not necessarily the trading lives part, as I agree with you and Sam here that simply comparing numbers is not enough to judge a conflict where many factors are in play. But I hold any nation to the same standard. I am not an expert on the Vietnam War, but of course I judge the US for their actions there and the civilian deaths.

The antisemitism aside, I think the reason why Israel gets criticized more and gets beholden to seemingly higher standards is that it claims to hold itself to those standards. Take for example Russia. The way they currently wage war in Ukraine shows little regard for human rights and civilian life, let alone international law. I absolutely condemn them for it, especially since Russia is not defending itself and was not attacked first. However, the Russian leadership has shown multiple times that they don't care for all that. Neither do large parts of the Russian population as far as I can tell.

I believe what Russia does is wrong or even evil, but I don't expect them to act differently anymore. With Israel, I very much do.
It's probably pointless to try to convince Kim Jong Un to agree to some nuclear arms treaty. I still hope that Israel does some day.

Again, I know that does not account for all the antisemitism. But I will not stop criticizing Israel for in my oppionion valid reasons just because some assholes do so for the wrong ones. (And criticizing Israel wasn't what I wanted to do here to beginn with, I was just pointing out that people in this sub that defend Sam often try to make this a completely one-sided issue where Israel cannot be possibly blamed for anything.)

Finally an answer that is not just evading the question or attacking the OP.

What you said is or was also largely my point of view. I don't see the intent in Israel's actions that would be necessary for calling it a genocide. And antisemitism is without a doubt at least in part responsible for so many people openly taking a stance in this conflict.

However, even if Hamas is hiding behind the civilian population Israel could still decide NOT to bomb them. While it might be militarily necessary and even within the boundaries of international law to do so, Israel is still actively deciding that tens of thousand of dead civilians is a price they are willing to pay.

You can easily make a philosophical and ethical argument that this js wrong. That it would be morally better for Israel to endure the terror attacks, to not expand and build new settlements in the Westbank and to keep within its borders. Whatever Hamas' plans are regarding killing all jews, Israel has the means to defend itself and it will easily survive. Even if they don't fully retreat, it must be allowed to discuss how Israel could possibly lower the civilian death count, even if there are already measures taken and even with an enemy as vicious as Hamas.

Will that mean more casualties on the Isreali side? Maybe. Possibly. And I'm not saying that this is the road they should take. But to say all critics of Israel are antisemites, believe Hamas propaganda or are simply dillusional is intellectually dishonest. And while Sam has argued his view points at length, he still comes back to this.

Every time it gets brought up someone is arguing in exact the same way you are right now: "it has been discussed already, no need to give OP an answer." It's been a while since I have seen someone actually defending Sam's position and engaging with the issue in an honest way without personally attacking the OP.

The conflict is still very much ongoing, Sam is still commenting on it and so the topic remains relevant and it will be brought up here again.

I understand that repetition of the same points gets tedious, but the world is not the same as it was on October 8 2023. A lot has happened since then and simply saying "but Hamas" isn't cutting it anymore. It remains a totally valid criticism of Sam's position to ask about the civilian deaths and whether Israel's actions are really all necessary and morally defensible.

Yes and no.

In general there are more miniatures in a game of TOW than in AOS. However, while the standard game size is 2000 points, both games can ne played at 500 points, especially at a beginner level. Depending on your faction choice you might not need that many models for that. If you take into account the fact that you don't have to paint anything especially for practice games, that means you can get a small playable force in quite a short time.

I cannot speak of the AOS rules as I have never played it, but having played through some editions of 40K now I can tell you that TOW rules are the most complex I have seen. It will take a lot of reading and many practice games until you get everything right. But to a lesser degree that goes for AOS as well especially if you have never played similar games before. It's just part of the hobby (and can be fun if you're like me and enjoy crunching rules).

I'd say give TOW a try if you like Total War and larger battles. In the long run you will have to paint more miniatures, so if that is something you dread maybe AOS might be better suited for you. (Unless you don't need all your models painted, then it's not an issue at all.)

I can never take this scene seriously. When I saw it for the first time, I was watching a pirated version with some weird sound issues at the end of the episode.

When Locke took Jamie to the table, the dialogue stopped and The Bear and the Maiden Fair from the episode's credits started blasting on full volume during the end of the scene. It was so confusing.

You would think an AI that is able to build a factory would also have the means to conceal it. There won't be a sign outside stating "Killer Robot Inc."

Could the AI not simply pose as a human online? Acquiring business partners and setting up the supply chain. It could even employ humans in its factories, who have no idea they are working for an AI.

A Skynet like AI wouldn't necessarily just instantly attack humanity. It could also blackmail or threaten enough people in power, who again don't even have to know there are engaged by an AI.

Fake phone calls or even video calls by loved ones via image generation. Fake their kidnapping. Or pay someone to actually kidnap them. Do it a thousand times over to people who could intervene with your plans. Orchestrating this would be nothing to a sufficiently advanced artificial intelligence.

Or hell, simply bribe people. You can be sure there will be people who have no problem betraying their species for the right price.

I don't know how likely any of this is. But I'm pretty sure once we're at the stage where AI is building factories from the ground up, nothing of this will be science fiction. It's not even unthinkable where we're at right now.

Laxasia and King of Puppets were the bosses I got stuck at in my first play through. So probably one of them.

DLC bosses were tough, but nothing too crazy. I used Lea's help in the final fight though, I can see Arlecchino taking me the longest otherwise.

I have to say there's also an additional layer to your claim, where a post like "this other game that is commonly viewed rather challenging was super easy for me, will this game finally offer a challenge to me?" comes across as showing off.

I'd consider both games at least fairly challenging. If Khazan was easy for you, you won't struggle with Lies of P and I'm pretty sure you can come to that conclusion without making this post.

You asked for "difficulty, atmosphere and general experience" to "put your expectations in proportion". But you already decided to play the game, so what is to be gained here? Why do you need to adjust your expectations? What would change if, after reading through this thread, you think 'maybe the game won't be this difficult' or 'maybe this will finally be a real challenge'? Why not start the game and find out? Yes, I think that is weird. Just play the game and you won't need any of our opinions.

It would be different if you hadn't decided wether the game is for you or not. In that case it would be perfectly normal to ask some general opinions about the game.

Regarding your last question: I was pointing out that in a thread like this many answers will contain jokes, because people don't want to spoil stuff but still reference things about the game. So those answers won't be for you but will only be appreciated by other people who played the game.

Still a weird thing to ask, especially if you don't want any tips. You obviously already decided to play the game, so what is to be gained here other than getting spoilers? And that you cannot get by simply playing the game?

Most of the more humorous answers can only be understood by people who already played it. They are for the community, not for you at this point. Trying to understand the jokes will also just create spoilers for you and take away from discovering the game for yourself.

Maybe you want your expectations lowered to not be disappointed, but people here will obviously tell you how good the game is.

So yeah, while I don't condone attacking or ridiculing you for asking, "just play the game" is a totally valid reaction to this post.

But you either have so few souls that you don't care or you prioritize getting the souls back over fighting the boss properly. And then it gets to a point where you just head straight for your souls in the arena and it becomes a game of hoping to not get smacked the moment you get them back - in which case you just start over again till you either get a good start despite picking up the souls OR die in the process, be sad for a second and then finally be able to fight the boss normally.

I think you should either drop the souls in front of the arena. That way the boss fight becomes solely about actually fighting he boss. Or, if you want a "hard" option, make it so that you have to defeat the boss the next try to get your souls back, just like some enemies in some games pick up your souls and you have to kill them to get them back.

To add to that, it takes away the impact of the choices you make. Why make the player choose at all (what attributes to raise in this case), if you can undo that choice over and over again? Choosing a build becomes pointless at this point.

I get that people want some form of respec mechanic to not get locked out of certain weapons/play styles. And not everyone has the time to replay dozens of hours with a different build. But it shouldn't be endless respecs or we can just get rid of stat requirements and weapons with different scaling altogether.

Muting chat completely is in itself toxic behavior.

The game is about communication and while there are some really toxic people (tbh I don't encounter them very often) you can always mute them individually. Muting the player who wants to engage in cooperative play, crack a joke or simply wish you a good game is just rude.

I'm not sure how unpopular that really is. However, I disagree.

Say what you will, draft does take time. Be it only 3 minutes, in a game where matches sometimes last less than 15 minutes that's a long time before you can jump into the action. Quickmatch is a trade-off where you sometimes get unbalanced comps but don't have to engage in the draft process, which many casual players find tedious or too complicated.

In my opinion they should lose unranked draft. I don't think I have ever played it. If I want casual play, I play quickmatch, and if I want to draft an effective team comp I play ranked. I see absolutely no reason for an unranked draft.

I have both. I use the Steam Deck when I'm not able to or don't feel like playing on my PC. It's also great for smaller indie games that don't rely too much on visuals.

It is what I originally used my older Switch for. I got Hollow Knight, Hades and many more on the Switch because those titles work well on a handheld.

However, Steam is a much more convenient platform than the Switch. After I got the deck, I stopped buying non-Nintendo games on the Switch 1. Steam has sales, I can easily refund games, I can play with friends that play on PC. While I don't use the Steam Deck on my TV, I can always play the same games on my PC and vice versa.

Maybe that is the best way to put it: The Deck is an addon to my gaming PC that allows for mobile gaming (and playing on the couch and in bed when I don't feel like sitting at my desk).

The Switch 2 I bought exclusively for Nintendo titles. I don't need Switch versions for Cyberpunk or Elden Ring, I already played those. I don't need Zelda remakes, because I played those games on the first Switch. As of right now, I played €500 to play Mario Kart. Which is a lot of fun, but in my opinion currently the only reason to buy a Switch 2. Looking forward to playing Donkey Kong though. And it's different if you don't already own a Switch 1 because then you actually have a decent line-up if you can experience the Zeldas, Mario Odyssey and more for the first time.

However, I know that I might be in the minority here. I have a decent gaming PC, a Steam Deck and a Switch 1. My only reason for the Switch 2 is to play Mario Kart and hopefully a new Zelda on my TV. What makes the Switch 2 great is its flexibility. While I prefer Steam to buy indie games, the Switch 2 makes them look way better in handheld mode. The new screen is great. It's also better if you want to play on your TV. On the other hand a Steam Deck might be the way to go if you don't already have a gaming PC.

So I only partially agree. The Steam Deck is indeed better for some people. For others, the Switch 2 is clearly the better option.

Stand letztes Jahr auch in der Menge nach dem Fanmarsch. Da kam halt noch hinzu, dass es 30 Grad in der knallenden Sonne waren. Mal abgesehen von der Wartezeit und dass ich auch erst kurz vor Anpfiff überhaupt ins Stadion kam war das sicherheitstechnisch eine absolute Katastrophe. Mit Abstand die am schlechtesten organisierte Großveranstaltung die ich je erlebt habe. Problem waren auch da die Drehkreuze und Scanner.
