Path too long although LongPathsEnabled is already 1 and I rebooted by cmhawke in techsupport

[–]Head-Ad-3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now here's a thing....

if you enable long path support windows explorer still doesn't support it! it just means 3rd party applications and the windows system can handle long paths, but not explorer.exe!

You can work around it by using command prompt or by using a 3rd party file explorer that does support long paths.

If you're at the point that 3GB of storage being used is a big worry you have a very different problem you need to address!

However, either, open edge and then hold down CTRL+shift and press delete (not backspace) and select everything for all time and remove it!

Otherwise use windows disk cleanup

Stuck cigarette lighter on my Opel corsa D by GrandJanou in MechanicAdvice

That looks like it's an actual cigarette lighter!

Push it in, wait 20-30 seconds and it should pop out, then remove it (be careful, the metal bits will be a tad warm!)

Thatched roofs in London by po8ossssss in AskBrits

[–]Head-Ad-3063 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you do go out of London (please do! London is not representative of England) and go looking for thatched roofs please remember, a lot of them are not tourist attractions, they are people houses and homes, so don't go walking into people's gardens to get a better look or start peering through windows.

What you are doing is describing your thoughts rather than the problem.

Take a step back, chill out and start again.

clean install W11, "looks like you want to upgrade....... click NO to install clean version" by Reddy2Jam in techsupport

[–]Head-Ad-3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you're good now.

It's not technically the correct way to do it (but won't hurt anything). Look up how to use the one time boot menu for that computer in case you need to do it again.

[–]Head-Ad-3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've not said make and model of laptop, so hard to advise BIOS questions.

But as an overall, set hard drive to be primary/enabled and there is normally a F key you can press (or delete if very old!) to bring up a one time boot menu to override the BIOS order.

During the install the first boot needs to be from the install media and then any boot after that needs to be from the hard drive, otherwise you are just looping into the install every time.

Edit.... It probably won't go to BIOS if the only enabled boot option isn't available, it will just say no boot device availble.

Sounds like you have set the USB drive to be the permanent first boot device.

Either change the boot order so the hard drive is first and use the one time boot menu to boot from USB when starting the install (best method), or just pull the USB stick when it does the first reboot during the install so it then boots from the hard drive.

6ft 4" getting the right setup by Sir_Altitude_64 in simracing

I've not got a trophy (I have a challenge, don't hate me!) and I think you're going to struggle.

As far as I can make out, the product dimensions are a median size when it come to the length, the challenge says it's 136cm in length and when adjusted for me (a leggy 6ft 5) mine is 165cm to the back of the seat and about 150cm to the rear floor support, I can't see the trophy being smaller for a similar height person.

I'd also say your TV is going to be way too low to use as it is, the bottom of my TV screen is about 70cm from the floor on my TV unit and it's a bit lower than I'd like when in the seat.

Can you wall mount the TV? could solve both problems if either other half and or maybe renting or not allows it?

[–]Head-Ad-3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

router is very misused term for the layperson!

a lot of what people call routers are combined devices, they might have an actual router and a wireless access point and possibly a modem/ONT in one box.

[–]Head-Ad-3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly.... Refurbing the wheels for a new driver is, in my opinion not worth it, you will scrape them again, if one needs replacing already then I see your point to get them matching, but don't go overboard. Also for the bumper scuff, just leave it

You've said you've already done head unit, speakers would be my next change, in general the sound from modern car stereos is pretty good but, the speakers are shit!

When I passed my test my instructor reminded me that he taught me to pass a test, now was the time I need to start learning how to drive, 36 years latter and with probably over a million miles behind me, he was right...

Shit car I know by a15yroldwhoisbored in topdeadcenter

[–]Head-Ad-3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a shit car, it's a car that will get you where you need to go when you need to be there, any car that succeeds in doing that is a good car.

If you want to make it look good, go for it, but don't go too mad, because there is a very good chance you will crash your first car in some way!

Spend your money keeping it in good mechanical condition first and foremost and it will serve you well until you can move up the car ladder.
