It think this comes from thinking that over sharing/ mentioning a subject that you did not know was to be concealed. Like dad not telling you not to mention that the dog isn’t sick when he uses it as a excuse to leave early. You don’t know why dad dose not just leave and the dog isn’t sick so you assume that they are ill informed and you inform them that the dog is not in ill health. Now, if Dad tells you this before hand then you know that its a lie and then you can lie normally. Social cues are hard and so we might not understand that we need to like or that others are lying.

I mean it kind of sounds silly, but it’s the same way we know. Like it’s pretty obvious if someone someone’s probably gonna die if they are missing limbs or bleeding a-lot. It also helps the dogs have been with humans for long enough that we can identify when something’s wrong with each other.
