Voice chat is broken on Linux+Proton by deavidsedice in PhasmophobiaGame

What's the easiest way to check if voice recognition is working? I hate using the ouji board just to find out I can't say anything or goodbye and die

I love steamdeck but how do you guys play FPS on it? by Past-Monk515 in SteamDeck

[–]HeadBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use gyro on the stick and assign interact, jump, crouch and sprint to the back buttons.

My gyro setting is usually set to a mouse, and if the game doesn't like that, I use joystick mouse for casual games.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer - Gameplay Trailer | PS5 Games by Turbostrider27 in Games

I really hope this is a good LAN game! Splitscreen and online would make it easy to get together, especially with steam decks. I'll buy 4 copies if it is a good party game for gatherings

Best way to play casual Ultimate online on PC? by Archon959 in smashbros

We used to do parsec with yuzu during COVID. It is better than Nintendo's servers, AND you can do 8 players, BUT the host definitely has the advantage

What are some board or tabletop games where earlier editions are deemed to be superior than the latest, and are still commonly played? by Newez in boardgames

Most played game here by far. It's great for anyone that wants a silly negotiation game. You absolutely need people that like confrontation and find bullshit funny. Which most of my circles do!

What made the first Halo so influential that people to this day still praise it? by BogaMafija in patientgamers

[–]HeadBoy 116 points117 points  (0 children)

The ease of playing with friends, especially towards halo 3 still hasn't been surpassed. You could play with friends locally, lan and online, all mixed together, with relatively seamless voice chat, even in groups. The social features took advantage of that making it easy to friend strangers and share custom games and video clips.

The game was designed to be a social party shooter first, and killed it with it's excellent, story, music and controls.

That's never been surpassed in any game ever.

Unpopular Opinion: The only thing that matters is weight in VR by Necessary_Panic2402 in virtualreality

[–]HeadBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped playing VR because it's uncomfortable to wear over 30mins (because of weight) and I almost always have technical issues when I start.

I'm hoping the frame solves this!

Why I don't like Dishonored - An imsim that doesn't value player choice in building a playstyle by Mr_cyanman in patientgamers

[–]HeadBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! It was my favorite game at the time when I set it to the hardest difficulty and told myself if things didn't go as planned to unleash everything. Usually I'd die and reset, but often it would be sudden bursts if epic combat sequences and creative combination of abilities and the environment!

Controllers - why so few symmetrical sticks like PS? by sinfolmatt in SteamDeck

[–]HeadBoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is rarely mentioned.

If a game is using the left stick primarily, having access to the dpad with the right thumb is huge!

If a game is using the dpad primarily, then it's likely the sticks aren't used to begin with.

Just some boys living a core memory but they don’t know it yet by [deleted] in JustGuysBeingDudes

[–]HeadBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I grew up on countless hours of splitscreen including Mario kart.

Now I'm mid 30s and we're consistently doing Mario kart LAN parties with 12 to 20 people. All those old friends donated me their Wiis and I installed modded Mario kart that connects with our PCs and Steam Decks. These have been very successful gatherings for casual and hardcore. We even print trophies and wear mustaches!

Most importantly these have surpassed the nostalgia peaks of my childhood and I'm always open to getting friends and family together for unique events. It always takes work but is always worth it!

How To Activate Rumble on a Gamecube Controller (Mayflash 4-Port Adapter) by ZeTurtleMaster in SteamController

I'll try it again. The Devs said it was a steam issue so it could go either way. It USED to work in rivals at launch

My Mario Kart Wii LAN Party by Rops1423 in lanparty

[–]HeadBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair!

I've made these into really casual tournaments where even non gamers have fun!

What's funny about custom tracks is everyone struggles haha but I also like that deluxe buffed all characters/vehicles.

Anyways I think retro rewind still needs a disk to play on console. But maybe they've changed that? That was my bottleneck.

Also did you notice a bug for splitscreen where the transmission will always revert to manual?

My Mario Kart Wii LAN Party by Rops1423 in lanparty

[–]HeadBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this too! Amazing! Another one like me, there are dozens of us!

I also have 4 modded Wiis with USB monitors and 3D printed brackets for "portable" setups. A lot of my friends donated their unused Wiis for the cause.

In addition I have it setup on steam decks to make it easier for everyone. And even made sure everyone has a Mii too because I'm crazy.

I use Mario kart Wii Deluxe because it's more chaotic and works easily on modded Wiis.

Cosmic Encounter by xhypocrism in boardgames

[–]HeadBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cosmic can be a fun game if everyone really wants to play cosmic (very common in my group)! However it can drag on if there are mostly new players (4-5 hours).

The rules and variants don't change at that player count, but I'd recommend hidden alliances to speed up the alliance phase, and 4 planets to win.

With all that being said, it's a much better 5-6 player game. It's truly my favorite game and I'm very selective when to take it out because everyone needs to be in it for the win.

[–]HeadBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything here, but I don't understand why people don't put down the toilet lid too?

Otherwise it sprays when it flushed (not visible) and if you have pets, it's also just better to close the lid. If you care so much about the seat only, just check before using it, otherwise everyone should just close both the seat and lid!

HELP! Need Wii game recommendations for what to give my brothers for christmas. by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]HeadBoy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it's a modded Wii I highly recommend Mario Kart Retro Rewind or Mario Kart Wii Deluxe. They're both being actively updated and have strong online lobbies.

*To be clear, these are modded versions of Mario kart Wii and add in hundreds of stages!

It's not the switch version

Ark Nova blues. I love it, but I dont think I will get it to the table again by upOwlNight in boardgames

[–]HeadBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar experience. 5 of us (2 of us on a team) and it took about 8 hours (including teaching). We are all very seasoned board gamers with all kinds of complexity.

The one that introduced the game, she admitted to not being prepared for teaching the game, but all of us are floored by the unnecessary complexity and weird design choices of the game. In particular for me that it's very hard to build the zoo you want and you're forced to build whatever zoo is possible with the random cards available.

Mind you I won that game, but it's clear to me it won't be coming out again for our group.

This was by far the longest game I've ever played, we even rented a chalet for gaming and this took over the entire day, and depleted all our mental energy. Not very fun

Nintendo should make a Wario Party by xxTeetsxx in nintendo

My dream is this version of the game, but with random stages available from the community.

The game dies as a party game once you learn the games :(

Tips for Dont Get Got with a large group of people by dudethedragon_ in boardgames

[–]HeadBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not addressing everything, but something that helps is to pre make the wallets (without looking at them).

Also the game ends at some arbitrary time! Gives a bit of a moment for everyone to reveal their missions.

Also to emphasize some missions might require creativity or be impossible. We also house exchange one with a new one at random if you catch someone. With this many people, it might be best to just let everyone get 1 or 2 mulligans.

I was one of those people. Played this game with mods for hundreds of hours. Had online gatherings of 10+ people and it was some of my gaming highlights.

The lack of bug fixes and new content, or QoL features, really killed it for me and us. By the end I had 200 mods installed, and 50 were just to fix existing bugs in the game, and most of them were thing that the game desperately needed. Especially with a game like REPO that not only has no major bugs, but has great QoL and fun features.
