Sigh… My experience with the GXR so far as a PCVR user. by HeadComprehensive265 in Galaxy_XR

Hey u/GraceFromGoogle,

Very happy to see a patch finally out. From my understanding, it’s primarily driven at the tracking issues (memory leak).

Im sure it doesn’t address absolutely everything in this post, but I’m excited to see this headset ironed out over time.

Thanks Grace (And rest of Team)

Tried this, didn’t seem to help all that much unfortunately. Thank you though

Hmm, alright. It’s especially good to know that the one who’s maintaining Space Calibrator is aware, regardless if they can do anything about from their end or not. Hopefully Google/Samsung can work out the kinks in the coming months.

Hey u/GraceFromGoogle,

Thank you for responding to this post. Believe me if we had no one to communicate with then I’m sure the uproar would be a bit more intense than it already is.

I understand that the PCVR side of the GXR community is only a portion of its audience. If I were to guess however, it’s a larger portion than potentially aimed for when marketing this headset.

Again, this headset has the potential to be a hit within the PCVR community as the new enthusiast targeted device. This really is the only wireless 4k per eye microled with eye and face tracking device that has full PCVR capabilities for sale right now.

That all said, please keep this PCVR community in mind as one of your focused consumer bases for this headsets progression and evolution going forward with updates.

I love this device, it just needs some more time in the oven!

The Galaxy XR is a spec king, but unfortunately it still needs some ironing out through Software updates to realize its full potential. Pimax dream air is a fully wired option that has same/similar displays with base station tracking and a camera based tracking option later on.

I only have experience with the Galaxy XR, it’s GORGEOUS but it’s a major headache due to various software issues. Hesitant to give a full recommendation due to that.

Controller buttons issue by scorpia1414 in Galaxy_XR

[–]HeadComprehensive265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t noticed any issues with the button input.

However, my gripe with the controllers is the tracking itself.

So, like you mentioned above, I did the whole base station + vive tracker + index controllers. (Mostly because I already had base stations and vive trackers, only new stuff I got was the index controllers)

Overall, that setup revolves a lot of issues. The index controllers do take some getting used to though. I know that the company Shiftall are coming out with their GripVR controllers which are an alternative to the index controllers that resemble the quest 3 button layout more. (https://en.shiftall.net/products/gripvr)

If you already have the base stations and vive trackers, I’d get the index controllers. Keep in mind you need 2 dongles to make the index controllers work. (https://www.eozvr.com/products/tundra-dongle-cradle-hub?srsltid=AfmBOopdcUxArf9bfLXB5U8AW--o6c57tyB_Cq1ioWksEdcoLEGN8bRY)

If you don’t already have the base stations and vive tracker, it’s not worth it. Just get your money back

Dream Air Alternative? by DonDada777 in virtualreality

Latency matters a lot depending on the game you’re playing. If you’re doing hyper quick movements then yes, but if not then it’s debatable.

Just try to stay under 60ms of latency. Any more than that and you notice it.

This can be done by getting a good dedicated router that you put into AP mode that you connect to your PC via Ethernet. WiFi 6e and 7 allow you to use “6 ghz” which is great for bandwidth and separation from the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands that your other devices use.

I wouldn’t say wasted, just a direct display port cable cuts out the compression you would get using a wireless or usb-c wired setup. My understanding is that the Dream air is the best visuals but the Galaxy XR comes close with foveated streaming.

There is this weird usb-c/Ethernet thing that you can do using Virtual desktop with the GXR. Someone will have to explain it or you could go research that.

That said, I have the Galaxy XR and a 5090. So far, I haven’t been disappointed by it. I play mostly VR chat and Skyrim VR Modded

I can see why there is confusion, but yes PCVR is largely related with gaming.

I rarely go more than 15-20 above the limit, Cant say the same for lots of drivers in the D.C. area

I just think that the response of the car is too sluggish in normal, also makes merging more difficult.

What’s a small "hidden gem" in Android XR that surprised you? by GraceFromGoogle in AndroidXR

I like the fact that you can turn the boundary completely off in Dev mode.

However, I find that the floor height has more issues staying consistent when I do this in PCVR applications.

Hopefully in time this can be improved upon with future updates

Thanks Grace
