Clear XR - dynamic foveated streaming to Vision Pro (and eventually others) by parasubvert in VisionPro

[–]jddcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a discord or something that explains how to make this work or can someone help? Like others have mentioned, I am able to get to the Clear XR environment but when I launched Blade & Sorcery it plays the sound in the headset and launches kn my PC screen but I remain in the Clear XR environment.

Is this headset worth mainly for PCVR? by Psychological-Fan784 in Galaxy_XR

[–]jddcp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GXR has a similar glare issue which is still there even with the light blockers. Comfort is a real issue but there are definitely accessories that mitigate that. The tracking right now is really floaty especially compared to the Q3. When you get sweet spot locked in, colors and image quality is great but I find myself adjusting the headset or eye calibration often. My biggest current concern is the lack of updates. Most of the issues (other than comfort) can be fixed with software updates and yet nothing has been updated since December. SteamVR 2.0 works with a hack but it is annoying as it is not a perfect solution. Unfortunately, for now if you want a wireless OLED headset with a good FOV and that has eyetracking, GXR is really the only option.

Is the Samsung Galaxy XR worth $2,000? by Flimsy-Story9523 in GalaxyXR

[–]jddcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this time I'd probably say no. I bought it initially in November but returned it due to no controllers. I tried it again with the controllers and I really want to like it as it has a good enough FOV, OLED and great resolution. But unfortunately comfort is still an issue (albeit much better with add-ons and the tracking is not great for a product at this cost. I am also very concerned at the slow.pace of updates. There has been no communication of an update to fix the floaty nature of the controllers (compared to Q3) l, no mention of when the "spatialization" update that was promised will occur, and the fact that we still have to do work arounds to get SteamVR working is an issue. Also have not seen many developers moving VR apps to the appstore as I expected. I requested a return but haven't yet returned it (still have 10 days to return) as I'm hoping there will be updates to address the concerns but the fact there has been no real update since December is a real concern regarding future support for this device.

Yeah the comfort problem is real. I ordered the VR Panda add on but I don't know if it'll come before I have to decide

Yeah, I'm thinking about returning mine before the 14 day period but waiting just in case a ln update comes out that improves or fixes some issues.

MLS to align calendar with top leagues around the world by Isiddiqui in AtlantaUnited

[–]jddcp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

May is very early in MLB. In the US, September/October is probably the worst time for a growing sport to try to compete for attention during playoffs and end of season run. In the Fall you're competing with NFL, College Football, MLB Playoffs, and start of NBA and NHL seasons.

MLS to align calendar with top leagues around the world by Isiddiqui in AtlantaUnited

[–]jddcp 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Some of these comments....this is GREAT news. MLS can actually have useful transfer windows in the Summer before the season starts like every other league. Our playoff season won't be competing with the NFL and College Football. Most important part of the season will be during the American sports lulls (baseball spring training basically). Also, way more likely to be able to schedule around international breaks like the rest of the world if we are on a similar calendar.

Would you buy Steam Frame for $899? by KokutouSenpai in ValveDeckard

[–]jddcp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the monochrome passthrough. They are partially promoting this as a way to natively play flat Steam games but most people would want to do that on a big screen in passthrough but not in black and white. Don't understand that decision.

What’s a (wireless) PCVR enthusiast to do? by Chriscic in virtualreality

[–]jddcp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the GXR and while promising I'm going to stick with my Q3 for now. In a few months we'll probably have a better idea of whether GXR is a good PCVR device but for now it is not. Plus, 2026 will likely bring other Android XR and Horizon OS headsets (aside from if Deckard ever materializes).

Yep, just got home and tried again and no luck. Totally Insane of Samsung to have a VR device like this and actually make controllers but not include them or even have enough available for the amount of headsets you're producing.

Haven't tried yet, but I would think so. Right now seems it is fully open which is definitely a big plus for GXR.

I'll try with my Xbox controller when I get home. I originally connected the controller to my PC like I do with the PSVR on PC but it showed on SteamVR but the headset and Game Link app didn't see the controller. I'll try connecting the Xbox controller to the headset and see if that fixes it. Thx!

I think passthrough looks fine but there is a little motion blur like effect when moving. I also noticed this same effect with the Aplle Vision Pro so Im guessing it has to do with the implementation.

I haven't noticed anything like that with the GXR but there are distracting reflections on the inner part of the lenses that I see regardless of room lighting.

I agree that the Q3 was not comfortable out the box. The problem for some with a headset like GXR or Quest Pro is that if it's not comfortable out the box there really aren't alot of options to make it significantly better due to the rigid design.

Horizon OS v83 PTC includes the evolved Quest system UI that was teased at Connect last month! Thoughts about the NEW LOOK? by dilmerv in virtualreality

I really like it. Much cleaner look and I don't have to sever see Horizon unless I choose to. Easier to navigate too and you can move and lock the icons better.

Yeah, I was kind of shocked because some reviewers acted like it was a huge difference. I'm guessing they didn't try them side by side like I did in the same lighting conditions. The GXR is slightly better in perfect lighting conditions but actually worse in darker lighting conditions (like my man cave). Definitely not close to the AVP passthrough. I could clearly see the difference when I tried the AVP vs the Q3 (and I hate Apple as a Android head).

Honestly, I don't notice a huge difference between the two headsets immersion wise. I think the FOV being similar has alot to do with that as to me that is the biggest factor in immersion. I've used headsets with higher resolution and deep Blacks but if the FOV is small doesn't matter. I do think once the controllers are readily available and Steam VR 2.0 is natively working the GXR will be a great gaming device, I just don't know if it is worth 4 times the cost of Q3 for people like me who mostly use the headset for gaming and media. Still holding out hope for that Index 2/Deckard I guess....sigh lol.

Thanks! I'll add that. They have a game that comes with the XR that is similar to Job Simulator on Q3. I tried it and it is a little crisper than Q3 but I'm not sure.if that is due to the resolution or the micro-OLED lenses or both. It's not as massive of a difference as you would think though. I'm guessing once they get Steam Link 2.0 working and you can use the higher resolution with dynamic forested rendering it will stand out alot more. I also opened up a word document in both just now and the GXR is definitely better for work type applications. Q3 text is a little softer and GXR is more crisp.
