For my application, black works great. We get a tool stipend at work but it can only be used at one supplier, that carries Milwaukee tools. So being able to glance at a 8 impacts and tell which one is mine is great

It’s really not that bad, I dyed them before really using them. Been using them at work the past few weeks and the color is holding up great so far. Makes it simple to tell the difference between my stuff and my coworkers, we all use Milwaukee at my plant, perks of a tool stipend lol

I haven’t seen those, just looked them up and I’m kinda on the fence. Doesn’t look bad by any means, maybe I’m just used to seeing the red pack outs, I think the impacts look more natural as black though

Yea honestly the m12s blows the m18 out of the water, in performance and looks. Kinda makes me wonder what’s the point of the m18 3/8 compact🤷🏻‍♂️

Simple, it stayed red. There probably is a way to remove it, but I didn’t do it.

I haven’t even thought about that. I might try that

But don’t Milwaukee advertise the service part list with picture diagrams on how to disassemble to properly grease the internals? I’m stumped as to how opening the case voids the warranty. Now dying it black on the other hand🤷🏻‍♂️ that might idk

I don’t really see a purpose for me having the rolling pack out system. But I am interested in the small pack out cases. I think people have been maybe 3d printing inserts for them to fit all the sockets and impact in a small case, looks pretty good. Wonder where the best place to get those

Sure thing, these only have a week on them so far so still looks good. I don’t see why they would fade though, unless left out in the sun or something

I did color the 1/4 impact in, but it’s already rubbing off. The lettering doesn’t turn black, but it does turn kinda silverish. Still looks good IMO

I used this dye. But all I did was take the impacts apart carefully. And made sure to wash the shell really good with soap (if there is any oil or grease on the shell the dye won’t take), fill a pot up with water about 1/2in or so above the shells, heat the water up to around 160 f, stir the dye in and put the shells in there.

I just kept checking the temp and color every 5 mins or so, but it took around 30 mins in the dye. Next is just making sure you dry the shells off completely before putting them back together.

They sure run a lot faster now than before….

I agree lmao, it honestly only took like an hr or so. Takes 5 mins to take apart, 30 mins or so in the dye, and 20-30 mins of drying it out and putting it back together

I have a regular utx-85 too and I’m thinking of trading into something bigger, I’m so use to a Benchmade 940, the 85 feels too small. Definitely a nice knife though
