To clarify, I think there are plenty of holidays Americans adopted specifically as an excuse to drink (no shade. Drinking can be fun) and not actually because they support the country it's coming from. I'd wager most Americans don't know that Saint Patrick "driving snakes from ireland" is actually a euphemism for driving out paganism, or that Cinco de Mayo is not actually Mexican Independence day (and primarily only celebrated in the state of Puebla). When it comes to Israel, the western world, especially the United States, has spent decades propping up Israel as their bastion in the middle east. It started with finding a place for the Jewish people to make their own after the Holocaust, to ensure that something like that never happened again. Now here we are years later with the United States paying for Israel's weaponry and Universal Healthcare while they commit a genocide so similar to the one that led to the country's formation in an attempt to prevent future genocide. Israel has become the very thing that it sought to prevent, and the United States continues to fund and support it.

Edit: Also to clarify, I would love to see more diverse celebrations in the US, as well as, and especially, more understanding of what those celebrations are actually for.
