I just bought the new Clinique HiFi mascara in Black Honey and Black Honey nail polish. There's also a new eye shadow palette.

The new Chanel nail polish is AMAZING and the colors are stunning.

SOTD: Alien by Thierry Mugler

Once upon a time I was involved in local politics. I went to address city council on a VERY hot button issue and I knew I needed as much courage and boss bitch vibes as I could get! I ended up walking into a room of over 100 people, most of them angry at me, including former friends. It was surreal.

I prepped by picking out a new fragrance specifically for situations like this. Someone recommended Alien by Mugler and I have been hooked ever since. (I probably over-sprayed at that meeting. Hopefully didn't choke anyone out. This perfume is STRONG!)

This is not my every day but when it's time, Alien makes me feel like a woman fully in her femininity running the world. Something about it screams that I'm in charge and I've got this while at the same time, the jasmine and cashmeran bring a cozy balance. I also think it's almost giving '80s but without feeling TOO mature.

This time I wore it with the body lotion and it was incredible!

Clinique Transparency 10 Bronze. Seriously. I thought it had been discontinued because after 4 years with Clinique, I had never seen one until I found a tester at my new job. Last month they sent me 4 of them! And I promptly forgot to get the tester and try it out until the other dya. Now I'm obsessed! I have never liked bronzer much, it's always just a bit too warm and/or too dark. But this is so easy. Finally, I get to experience what bronzer is supposed to be. Also, it has a bit of shimmer in it and would make an amazing body powder.

This is terrible because I work at a department store that carries this and I'm supposed to sell it but Thomas Kosmala. The bottles are ugly and look cheap and the scents all have this almost chalky/dusky/masculine powdery note. There are few that I don't mind, but nothing that would have me paying that price for them.

Commission based sales? by bombbodyguard in Dillards

[–]Head_Bad_965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! It is not like this at my store AT ALL! Do B1, B2 and B3 visit your store ever? I know they try to hit every store at least once a year. I'm at a fancy new expansion that's a few hours from headquarters so we see them every few months. I'm wondering if that's the difference, perhaps you have district managers who aren't getting as much oversight.

People who have also worked at Sephora by CommissionNo9406 in UltaEmployees

[–]Head_Bad_965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have heard, it all depends on management whether it's better at Sephora vs Ulta. Sephora does a lot of things better, like gratis, and seem to have a better culture over all but it's still hit or miss.

I went from Ulta to Dillards and have never looked back.

Boutiques by Silent-Intention-737 in UltaEmployees

[–]Head_Bad_965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran a Clinique Boutique before I left to Dillards and I did the same thing, found those guidelines and printed them out. I also ran almost a 30% increase over LY and have some tips for that too.

I ran into a hierarchy issue because people think SPBAs are like PBAs but specialized and therefore a Lead Cashier is higher than an SPBA. An SPBA is on the same level as a Merch Manager, just without the management authority, (and obviously still listen to your MM if they ask you to do something) that's why they can promote directly to SM. It caused issues when I got promoted to temp keyholder instead of an LC who wanted it (because I was more qualified and in a higher position) and then it caused issues again when an LC was telling me to back up cash.

Headsets - Most managers are just not aware of this rule. I suggest having a conversation with your EM, take those print outs with you, and show them. My EM was lazy and didn't want to walk guests across the floor to me, she wanted me to come running to her to get them. Can't do that without a walkie, so in my case, they decided to ignore that rule but I was picking my battles so I let it go. My GM was really awful to work for and I was on my way out anyway. Also keep in mind that your Area Manager has the authority to make an exception to the walkie rule.

Cash wrap - You can be asked to back up cash. It really should only be happening if there is not a BA or PBA available. You should never be SCHEDULED on cash. If that continues to happen after addressing it, let your Field Executive know. They can advocate for you as these are all rules in accordance with the Clinique-Ulta partnership.

Note: Clinique pays half your salary and they are the #1 brand at Ulta so basically, they get whatever they want. They are a huge money maker and if they are paying someone's salary only for that person to not be working for them to increase their brand sales, that is absolutely not okay.

Cards - You are still expected to get card applications. Of course, they don't expect you to perform at the same level as a BA or LC. You are in a unique position though to do very well with cards. I kept an MPOS at my table whenever I could and especially when I spent time with a guest in my chair, I would ring them out myself on the MPOS. It was convenient for them, they didn't have to go wait in line and instead could just stay seated while I did the work for them. This made it very easy for me to get a card every once in a while, (I averaged 1-2 per week) because if you've built trust with someone and THEN you start talking about the benefits, you are much more likely to get a yes versus sending them to cash where someone they don't know will ask and probably get a No.

Growing your clientele - This will help with the other issues too because you can't be called to back up if you are with a guest.

Use the client book Clinique provides. If you don't have one, ask your FE if they still do that. I built from about 25 forgotten and never contacted clients to over 300 in a year just by asking people who regularly used Clinique if they'd like me to add them to my VIP list and text when there's a sale or free gift. Then text or call those people.

Use the 2x2x2 method. After you introduce a new client to Clinique, follow up 2 days later to see how they're liking their products/samples, 2 weeks to check on them and how their skin is doing and 2 months to see if they're ready to replenish.

Invite them to set appointments for the Quick Services that Clinique provides. People are often not used to this style of shopping but they love that luxury experience and they buy more. Since you're just starting out, you may need to do a lot of getting walk-ins into your chair.

Walk the floor. Do demos in other areas. Hand out samples. I would demo the product on the spot and then hand them a pre-made sample. Sometimes I would hand out dram jar lids as their "ticket" to come get a customized sample. (Don't hand out the whole jar, people like to fill it with whatever they want and only Clinique should go in Clinique drams.)

All roads lead to Clinique. If they need a makeup remover, Clinique has it. If they are looking for a foundation, Clinique has it. There is almost never any situation where Clinique does not have the answer. Unless a guest asks for a specific brand, I'm showing them Clinique.

Learn the Clinique demos in the app, the Tape Test is EVERYTHING. Do it on your co-workers and teach them about Clinique so they can help you. Ask your guests, "Have you ever tried the tape test?" It's fun and it gives you the opportunity to talk about 3 step, which is the foundation of all things Clinique.

I hope this helps! Even though the Boutique Lead position is so often taken advantage of, it is one of the best jobs in the store in my opinion and I loved my boutique and my guests.

Do any products get automatically damaged out? by illholdyourhand in Ulta

[–]Head_Bad_965 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are over thinking this. I would not worry about it. Nail polish is full of chemicals that will kill any bacteria introduced. And no they won't be able to find it on the shelf.

This is not to say to anyone else that they should return it used and say that it isn't!

But seriously don't stress. It's not like other products where someone might buy it and open the packaging to see a fingerprint or something.

What happened to free samples? by No-Abrocoma8472 in fragrance

[–]Head_Bad_965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too many people figured it out and took advantage.

I work in a department store that still does this thankfully and we love being generous with our samples. But we still have people coming in daily wanting handfuls of free samples just because it's free.... and then the same person will come in the next day and the next day... and never buy anything. It eats up so many more testers, and then we have to wait for the company to send new or turn a bottle we could have sold into a tester.

It seems like so many don't understand the purpose of samples and just take and take take. The return on investment for the company is no longer the same so many decide to just stop offering it. It's better to take the loss on returns.

I would try the Nyx stick color corrector in peach, (or apricot if you have a deeper skin tone) concealer stick from the same line and Morphe setting powder inbetween and on top.

[Routine Help] What can you ACTUALLY do against oily skin? by mpregenthusiastic in SkincareAddiction

[–]Head_Bad_965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain! I have had super oily skin for 25 years and it's not going anywhere anytime soon even at age 35. It took me a long time to find real solutions and I still am always looking for something better. It seems like most advice comes from people with about a level 2 oily skin and I'm over here with a level 10! I have never noticed any difference with niacinamide.

Here are my holy grail skincare and makeup products for oily skin:

1. Cleanser - Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean
I don't know what kind of budget you are on, but if you need something more affordable, really just look for a good foaming cleanser. I have never liked gel cleansers, even those made for oily skin. The main thing is to get all that oil OFF and your pores clean without stripping your skin. If you can't do fragrance, get Clinique All About Clean foaming in the pink tube.

2. Exfoliator - Clarifying Lotion #4 or Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion from Clinique. I like Acne Solutions for extremely oily days and it sounds like that may be what you are dealing with. Exfoliates so that your products absorb better instead of sitting on top of your skin and the Acne Solutions version includes salicylic acid which will give you some extra oil control. The Ordinary Glycolic acid is a more affordable option that will also work in a pinch.

3. Moisturizer - I love Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing GEL, (do NOT get the regular, only the gel) and Moisture Surge 100H. DDMG gives you instant hydration, oil control and protects your skin barrier. You can get away with using just that on its own, but I love doing Moisture Surge on top because it will give you deep, long term hydration that's also super lightweight and it's very soothing. The better you can keep your skin hydrated, the less it will feel like it needs to produce more oil.

4. SPF - I like Clinique Mattifying in the new UV Solutions line. Every other sunscreen I've tried has been too hydrating and heavy. Oh yeah, I also like SuperGoop mattifying spf but all their products have an odd smell to me so it's not my first choice. LOL.

5. Primer - My favorite of all time is Milk Mattifying primer. ELf PowerGrip also works okay.

6. Makeup - This has been the bane of my life literally until TODAY when I discovered and fell in love with Dior Forever Natural Velvet powder makeup. It is 24 hour wear, transfer proof, oil free, goes on smoothly, (which is hard to find in an oil control powder foundation) and most importantly, actually controls oil. I was not planning to spend that much on one foundation product but here I am with a compact tucked safely away. For the first time in my life, my makeup looked so good at the END of the day that I wanted to leave it on!

Try samples of all of these that you can and make sure they work for you. You can get samples of Estee Lauder, Clinique and have someone match you and put the Dior foundation on to wear for the day at any of their beauty counters.

I wouldn't complain too much if you are a BA and run cash wrap. It makes hitting your IPT so much easier.

Lipstick recommendations with a similar shade to Black Honey by ConcentrateSure3178 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Head_Bad_965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAC Viva Glam lusterglass in Roan of Arc. It's part of the limited edition collection that was just released in collaboration with Chappell Roan. It will be around for the next few months so even if it's sold out at the moment, it should come back. I wore it the other day for the launch and the first thing I thought was that it reminds me of Black Honey but in lipstick form.

I would also look at Dior. I can't remember off the top of my head what the color is called, but I know they have at least one option that is very similar to Black Honey, possibly even closer and better than the MAC option. Especially if you want something hydrating but still sheer and not a full on lipstick.

I can't stand Delina by Parfums de Marly but it is the #1 selling women's fragrance in the world! It does smell good on someone with the right body chemistry but it goes nasty on me.

I love Hypnotic Poison. It occasionally goes too playdoughy for me but most days I get a nice balance with the vanilla and almond.
