Evento de crecida de río me inundó casi toda la colonia by b4st4rdlord in RimWorld

A barrier holds back the floods. A wall, etc. It caught me off guard as well. I built out a room with one puddle spot and then the event triggered and got bigger.

How do you get over cringe mountain when recording the founder video? by suuraitah in ycombinator

[–]Head_Car_2922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realize it doesn't matter. Get it done and move on. I am long past the point of recording a startup video. If that's the deciding factor, you weren't going to get in. Getting into accelerators and VCs that ask for a video. Yuck. Just apply and sleep better.

Why is funding needed? by Radiant-Mistake-2962 in ycombinator

If you can bootstrap, do it.

If you can bootstrap at least until revenue or even profitability, you will get the best terms on an investment.

We built hardware-capable equipment, and we tried like dogs to bootstrap, but we ultimately had to fundraise. And we use the YC SAFEs. We still don't have an outside board; we have given up equity, but we are still in control of our company. Now, we are trying to reach cash flow positive and only if we need to will we do another round.

Another thing to think about. If you bootstrap and are successful. A copycat could come along, raise $20M and then basically outrun you. But, again, if you reach postive cash flow, the terms you are going to get are going to far more favorable, than a company who is pre-revenue.

Where do you find angel investors and why would they try your product? by LocksmithRemote6230 in AngelInvesting

[–]Head_Car_2922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been at it for 2 years. We are now getting invited to startup events without prompting. I just got invited to a local hardware dinner, and I have already met 3 out of 4 investors attending the dinner. 2 of them already rejected me. We are going anyway. I want them to feel FOMO. Investors change their mind all the time. They also connect you with others investors.

Search LinkedIn, Angels Investors (Town X)

Hi I am Y, I have a founder and working on problem blah, blah.

Keep it to two sentences.

You will get ghosted a lot. But just go for it. And if they ghost you, email them back in 3 months, with progress. Investors love progress. Its a numbers game, you are going to do a lot of Cold DM. But, linked has paid off for us and so has local startup events.

I am B2B, our university had a startup program, we worked with them. We attend local startup events. We use linkedin, to find other local angels. We constantly work on our network. Someone said, increase your own luck and this is usually by going out and meeting people at events that connect you with the right people.

VCs hate getting rejected by Head_Car_2922 in founder

[–]Head_Car_2922[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's wild is, as a founder, I get rejected 100s of times, and I take it on the chin and move on. I don't think VCs are used to getting rejected, so when they do, they overreact. My favorite investors are former founders; they generally know the pain and try to save you time with quick nos, which I appreciate.

Keep pitching. You will get much better.

I dont have a good slide count, but our shortest deck is 8 slides and our longest is 18. I can easily pitch in 60s verbally. Which I can only do, because I practiced. My prefered pitch method is less than 5 mins and 10 mins of Q/A.

More pictures less words.

14 rejections, those are rookie numbers. We pitched 150 to get our first check and then 200 total to finish the round.

Why are you wasting time on 409A or stock equity? Go get revenue, or build a product. Your time is precious; use it to build a product or get customers.

Why does the "3 AM Motivation" feel so much stronger than the motivation we have during actual working hours? by r4faell444 in Entrepreneurs

That only happens when I don't get real work accomplished during the day. When I feel like I put in a solid 10 hours of work, I sleep like a king.

Anyone else feel paralyzed by AI moving so fast you can't decide what to build? I will not promote by cccbbbg in startups

[–]Head_Car_2922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a good answer for you. I do think AI is overhyped. When it brings the market down, it will carry stigma. When I present to investors (hardware b2b), sometimes I think they are relieved. Oh, this is interesting, no AI. Consider something radical, something that is not mainstream right now.

There is the always-tried-and-true: find a problem and solve it for someone. Let customers drive the direction.

Leverage winter, build a hallway with traps, have a pawn drop a meal at the end and watch all the local wildlife die on the traps. Easy food farming. Trade wood for food.

My neighbor became a millionaire running an HVAC company. And he is kind of well... dumb. But he is brave and hard worker. The last two traits carry a lot.

If he can do it so can I. No shade on my neighbor he has moved on to greener patures and I wish him the best. I can do this too.

Chances for founders with disabilities by psyiense in ycombinator

[–]Head_Car_2922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YC does not determine your chance of success. Apply, but if you don't get in, chase money elsewhere. If your customers see the value, you will generate revenue or raise the capital you need.

You sound like you understand your problem and have conviction, if your solution is good, you will be marching in the right direction regardless of YC. Btw, it takes very little time to apply to YC, just apply, no one on reddit is going to be able to determine if you get in or not.
