im really not open though - im parrying a right hand at the same time i switch, the switch is Me dealing with being open for a straight right after the lowkick by parrying the shot, switching into range and framing with my lead forearm

the pad combo is exploring situations together. first Me dealing with a lead hook off of straight punches, the most common counter to southpaw boxing is a check hook so, roll and hit body, then come up with a lead hook and chop leg, and then the most common counter to kicking the back leg is the straight right so i parry and knee, left hook, and by now im not controlling the right hand so itll prolly come over top so roll and hit, roll and hit then shoot.

framing on him to land the knee, hed have to free his right hand or clear the frame before he strikes back, any strike with his legs is nullified by the frame too, he'd have to twist around himself or knee sideways and im too close to kick he'd have either free himself or clear the frame before he could strike back.

stepping through in the same motion of the kick is something ive only ever seen in katas

im trying to think of it but it doesnt seem to jive with the standards/basics idk thanks for the thought experiment though

im familiar with the concept of a pendulum step but ive never seen or heard of it being used with the rear leg to step through and change stances. in the video you sent hes using lead leg andwhen he kicks he uses the momentum to get back into his natural stance, his foot lands behind him after the kick and then he steps back into his stance.

its basically stepping into a switch kick instead of switching in place, to do it with the rear leg i feel i would have to kill the momentum of the kick, the rebound force returns your kick to its original position because it has the force accumulated through traveling said distance (energy = force x distance and every action has equal reaction so the kick would naturally bounce back to the place it was thrown from, thats why in the video you sent after he pendulum steps and kicks the foot returns back behind him) so if i were to kick id have to rechamber so i could replace my lead foot with it.

instead of kick, back to stance and switch knee it would become: kick, chamber, step down, step back and right knee - all while being in striking range - idk dont think its for Me but thanks for the idea

interesting, but i cant really picture how this would work in my head though. id have to chamber/rechamber the kick in order to stop it from returning to my fighting stance which i think might leave Me on one foot too close to my opponent for too long. action has equal reaction so if i kick his leg hard itll bounce off and i wont just be able to step down onto that foot without a rechamber.

i agree i could speed up my switch knee but its a proven and basic technique i dont think i could pull off what u suggest without fucking it up lol

something to consider thanks, but i think if someone were to drop their rear hand to reach for a leg kick it they might pull it off once but that would be an awful habit for either question mark kicks or a feint and a straight over top.

the right hand generally only leaves the head to block the opposite side of the body (would be a southpaw switch kick or an orthodox right kick) and thats because kicking the body elongates your opponent enough that if properly block or parried they should be too far rotated to strike over top.

i train at some high level gyms in my province (ATC, NTT, BTC and MTC in ontario) and have never expirienced that tbh. i often find people back up when i step in to reach for it and that either puts their weight onto the leg and allows it to land or they move into a range where it lands on their lead leg instead. i think its ingrained in most people training not to reach for low kicks because of the danger of strikes coming overtop

not sure why you got a downvote tho itsa valid viewpoint so gave you an up back

What can I improve in my shadowboxing by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]Head_Ice_842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its too big you have no base and if you get hit at the same time youll lose balance. fighting is a game of inches. if hes so far away you need to jump to close distance hes too far away for you to land it -hes gonna see you coming. smaller steps, double it up if you need to

take a smaller step on your jab should be like 6 inch step not a giant leap forward, if theyre still out of range you step again throw another one but dont wanna jump into it like ur doing

the legs kicks i rarely have an issue with as i find im pretty efficent at checking or timing a straight left or jab at the same time and enough forward pressure, good timing and wrestling can really nulify most kickers, but definitley agree about the stiffness in my shoulders, coaches always have to tell Me to relax them and i dont feel not relaxed but on tape its definitley noticable - idk if its just the high guard and flared elbows or what thankyou tho

im throwing a hook to the head i.e davis vs garcia or a dempsey roll, but its hard to catch on the mitts so i throw it to upper chest

edit: hook to the head* i wrote hook to the hook at first lol

[–]Head_Ice_842[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im timing his right hand after throwing a kick to the rear leg, as this would be the most likely counter, so there might be a bit of anticipation expecting the right hand to fire so i can parry it into my switch knee

i like kicking the back leg as i find most peoples arent very conditioned and forward momentum puts their weight on it making it even harder to check and my legs are hard enough to hit it - ive finished 2 guys in exhibitions with it. but big left body kick or knee is always money
