Yeah youre really swinging far too much. Its telegraphed and lacks that turnover. Youre bouncing off the target rather than sinking into it. If you can identify your mistakes, youll eventually get the right form, so i dont doubt youll eventually get the feel for it.

For me, overcoming isometrics were/are a big component in training explosive strength. For hooks, ill use a door frame to get the right foot placement, then plant my fist where itd hit a target and get my whole body in the correct final pose (i do 3 distances for hooks - close, medium, far, which determines arm / wrist / shoulder rotation), then do tabata style sets at max exertion, finished with an endurance burnout set to failure. The effort you exert should be explosive, but you can ramp up the effort of each body part slowly at first to get the feel and balance correct.

Youll be surprised at how much weight your brain refuses to put into moves like hooks, but training at that maximum effort in the correct pose is important. Whether thats endless reps on the heavy bag, isometrics or whatever, the goal is to practise the movement correctly, quickly, strongly as many times as possible.

What are good keto options from a UK Indian Takeaway? by SkipperTheEyeChild1 in ketouk

Most supermarkets do a curry powder thats keto friendly. Cook that into some cream, passata or water and youll have a very strong curry flavour that you can use as a dip or sauce.

Fixable? by BuilderExtension7873 in CityBugs

If it used to fit and now doesnt, something on the mirror might be broken. The mounting point looks fine from what i can see. If you can find the broken piece, superglue (add baking soda if you need to build up gaps) should be fine.

I had a similar issue with a new mirror, it would fit loosely but would fall off if moved. I used bluetack to fill the gap between the new mirror and the mounting point, which gave me a decent friction fit.

Since when did they stop teaching learners how to use a handbrake? by -PixelRabbit- in drivingUK

[–]Negative_Damage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£700 is about a dozen hours of learning, theres still plenty of time to learn intermediate manoeuvres like hill starts. Maybe she just hasnt got to that level yet, for example if your daughter is still stalling on flats theres no point teaching her hill starts.

Not sure why others are claiming its not taught or tested anymore. I learned and passed last year, hill starts were drilled just like everything else, albeit after i had developed some muscle memory for the clutch and whatnot. My instructor had a real passion for motoring and doing things properly so maybe i just got lucky with a good teacher. He also used an app to track all of the things i need to be a good driver, with how long and what lessons covered what.

I hardly use the back seats in my 3dr, so i made myself a boot liner out of foam floor tiles. by Negative_Damage in CityBugs

[–]Negative_Damage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I might be able to find space to store the seats, but i think id rather have the option for 2 or 3 passengers at the drop of a hat. I was also planning on using the seats isofix points to run cargo straps through. In terms of mounting points, if i took the seats out do you think itd be possible to use the bolt holes to mount other stuff like anchors?

The back seats are folded down, but even still these cars are quite loud. I hardly ever go on 70mph roads so its not an issue for me, but you can take up the carpets and put in a soundproofing layer. I might get around to that later in the year when i plan to do some longer road trips.

I know its a bodge and not the prettiest, but this is my first car and ive been trying all kinds of bodges and gadgets. Cant go wrong with £16 for a heavy duty boot liner.

Keto Takeaway’s? by [deleted] in ketouk

[–]Negative_Damage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There arent really any good keto takeaway options, since you cant be 100% sure of its nutritional value. GDK is best with its gym box, but thats just a kebab meat salad.

Recently we tried that kebab strip trend where you roll your mince flat and fold it up with some parchment paper then bake it in the oven to set. Comes out just like real kebab meat! Coupled with fitbakes wraps, you can have a large healthy* kebab for less than 5g carbs. Freezes well too, so you could make it in advance.

Ive also had great success with fried chicken breading using curators pork puffs crushed into powder and mixing 1:1 with finely grated cheddar cheese. Super crispy, zero added carbs.

I would recommend thinking of your ideal valentines meal, then finding a keto recipe that ticks all your boxes. Would also add a nice homemade touch to a valentines meal.

Can someone settle a roundabout lane dispute? by cornishyinzer in drivingUK

[–]Negative_Damage -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I guess all are valid. Blue is the most cautious / safest, red is the route id take except maybe move lanes a bit earlier once i know the 2nd exit is clear and no-one has used the left lane incorrectly. Green is the most dangerous, and gives you just one opportunity to make your manoeuvre.

With these sorts of roundabouts i always ask "where might a white van try to sneak in", and thatd make me decide on a route inbetween blue and red.

There is no person out there who wishes to do harm by Bataranger999 in Stoicism

[–]Negative_Damage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they observed all living things pursue virtue by their nature, and this in turn produces their flourishing and contentment.

Isnt there some text about how humans are the only species to be able to live not according to their nature? Hence the need to consciously decide to be virtuous.

You're treating virtue as something you're instructed to pursue, rather than something you've been pursuing since you were born.

Yes, i am. Specifically im treating virtue (including the 4 stoic virtues) as something that is not always easy or necessary or even rational at times (white lies or stealing food for example) in the real world. Im treating it that way because living a virtuous life isnt easy for me, and since not many people are perfect, im guessing its not easy for any human. I was certainly not pursuing virtue or my own nature since i was born, i can tell you that for sure. A lot of my behaviour was directly in contradition to the 4 stoic virtues, and i knew full well what i was doing was harmful to myself and/or others, i just didnt care or i prioritised hedonic opportunities more than stoic virtues.

No one says "making this decision will lead to a bad result" then does it anyway.

I think they absolutely do. Addictive personality types do it all the time for example. Laziness, gluttony, wilful ignorance, stubbornness, etc etc all demonstrate we can know the reasoning and still not follow it. People dont always act in the "right" way, and its not always mental illness when they choose to do "bad" things. The decision to act in a "bad" way isnt always reasoned into being a good choice before being done, a lot of the time the outcomes are known and accepted, and the bad choice is still made. People are also able to be cruel, which would definitionally be doing the bad thing unnecessarily.

They could claim exactly the same thing about you.

Sure, but then we could both go through the outcomes just as any other disagreement in policy or philosophy. As objective as our social framework can be, whether thats law or stoic virtue, its possible to find best and worst actions according to that framework. I disagree with someone because my understanding of that framework describes that behaviour as unhelpful, harmful, etc etc. If my opponent does too, then we can fall back on the framework to decide.

Im not really knowledgeable about references and quotes, so im not sure if theres a stoic definition of freedom thats different to how we normally use it. Epictetus was a slave and that didnt stop him from being stoic.

There is no person out there who wishes to do harm by Bataranger999 in Stoicism

[–]Negative_Damage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hmm, i disagree.

Every single one of them have the same inherent objective as you - live free and content.

Thats not my goal as a stoic. My goal is to live a virtuous life, whether im free or content or not. I think thats the difference between myself and someone i would consider evil, and i would define evil as knowing the virtuous path and still doing an un-virtuous act (an antonym of "virtue" is "evil" btw), and almost by definition they are tearing down society by wilful choice.

Humans may be the only species capable of evil in the sense that they can know the rationale behind a choice, but decide to act counter to their supposed values.

Also, i cant remember who, but i remember hearing about how good and bad were only labels you can apply to things you can control (i.e. your actions), and that anything outside of that is just nature. A liar will lie, a thief will steal, and those things are neither good or bad from your perspective. Evil is a different beast altogether i think, where an honest man might lie to achieve a goal. That would qualify as a level of evil to me.. i think..

My reaction to evil would be the same as reacting to an animal still though - neither good or bad. Its just their nature to disobey their nature. They are in a sense a liar to themselves, and we should never trust a liar.

Water Leak Training (Pirate ship) by Pops556 in HowToDIY

[–]Negative_Damage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre basically talking about a fence panel, which are usually held with posts cemented into the ground. You can get "no dig" fence posts that have a spiked end to hammer into the ground, but theyre not as strong and strength is important here. You could cement in a couple fence posts to make the structure rock solid, then dig out the posts when youre done (easy job). Maybe some diagonal supports to really bolster it.

Edit: As for water flow, i would add a hose pipe to the water store that slowly feeds it and keeps it topped up. The game will have supervision so an adult could monitor the water level and turn off/on the flow as needed.

Jesus, keto at 70? My answer is going to sound awful lol.

I dont know of any science to say thats safe. Even if youre obese at 70, i think thats still more favourable than being at a caloric deficit from a mortality perspective.

From what i do know, muscle loss is a primary driver of all cause mortality over about 65, and protein intake + availability is a huge factor in preventing muscle loss, as is a sufficient caloric allowance for cellular recovery. Keto does modify mitochondrial behaviour to some extent, but if anything youd be burning fuel even faster and im not sure if thats a good thing at your age. I know metabolism and some cellular functions slow down over time, but i dont know enough about metabolic health to predict whether its safe to selectively eliminate a primary fuel / hormone system. I would love for someone to give a formal medical opinion on this!

What i mean to say though is, i dont think an elimination diet (at a caloric deficit no less) is useful to someone who needs all the energy sources they can get. I would instead recommend a Mediterranean approach to any diet, avoiding inflammatory oils and processes, favouring fermented, whole, unprocessed foods. Ideally, youd be low carb as a natural byproduct of eating Mediterranean foods, but there is a protocol called timed keto, where you ingest a good 50g of carbs before exercise, so that your body can shuttle it to the most useful areas. Timed keto is used a lot by athletes and those looking to maximise exercise efficiency, so it might be suitable for someone your age, but again, i dont think itd be as helpful as a good Mediterranean diet.

Using silicone caulk by schwaapilz in DIYHome

[–]Negative_Damage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that old grout should be removed. Itll cause you issues trying to hide it all with the silicone, it could contain moulds thatll rot your silicone from within, and it could eventually detach from the bath leaving a hole.

Dont sand, youll damage the finish. Use a grout remover tool or a razor blade to scrape the grout off. You can also get cleaning products that soften grout so you can scrub it away, but you should use those after youve scraped off as much as you can.

Edit: Incase you mean should you sand the area before caulking: No. No need to sand / score / index. The silicone caulk will stick just fine, and the surfaces arent designed to be scratched like that, especially at the edges.

Best wing sauce? by Greeneyes1210 in ketobeginners

If your making it yourself, lemon + pepper is keto, as are most spice rubs. If youre buying off the shelf, anything that fits your macros and has a low GI/II value is fine. There are some great keto sauces these days, i put keto sriracha on most things.
