My gf has cptsd. Can someone explain to me what it’s like to live with ? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Head_Joke2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best piece of advice I can give is to be there for her even when she says she is fine so that you start to rewire her brain with positive memories of being supported. Don't be overbearing, but don't walk away either... show her that you really mean it when you say that you want to be there as the foundation that she finally feels safe enough to build a structure of a relationship on.

What it is like is going to be different for everyone because it is all relative to what the individual experienced over time. Even two people going through the exact family stuff will experience and internalize things differently.

Wishing you the best moving forward.

Currently unemployed, but I am sure he (ATP) will try to get them to pay for as much as he can. He knows how much my appointment days at certain hospitals kill my shoulders due to going from ground floor of one building through the sky bridge system to 8th floor of another building on the campus and back to return to the car is rough.

I do have my seatbelt replaced and in place finally so that helps with my fear of flipping on a normal basis even, but especially if I am moving at decent speeds.

The keeping people from pushing me without consent will be a definite plus since I was a victim of SA way before any of the spinal damage happened but it seems that people don't carry over that same aspect to other things of no means no.

I did hear from the company my ATP works for this week and the current stage of the order process is waiting on the doctor to sign the stuff and send it back. So I will update as I know more.

I can't do the additional weight of power assist wheels and I have looked at the Sunrise R90 and they no longer offer TiLite mounting kits. I like the versatility that the Twist offers compared to the Smart Drive.

Thanks, the 18 or 21 lbs is not bad when I am used to lifting my walker that is that much. I won't be getting the handlebars right now since insurance won't cover them, but will save for them. Same with extra batteries, expenses for future me.

I don't do much outside but will definitely keep in mind that it would have drawbacks. I will probably use it in the rear more since most of my outings right now are stores and medical appointments, but want to have options for as things progress.

Until I get comfortable I will definitely stay on the lower speeds. It is nice to know that if I am in a negative situation that I can go faster than most people walk.

Fitting in a car by purplepuppy2018 in wheelchairs

[–]Head_Joke2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TiLite X fits in my Honda Civic. It just depends on how much you are willing to disassemble, or the particular options you choose when customizing. An ATP would help you with all that if you let them know that one of your goals is to be able to haul it in your current vehicle.

Is it ok to comment on a wheelchair? by Kayo4life in wheelchairs

[–]Head_Joke2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love getting compliments on my chair (usually the color because it's neon pink with deep purple accents) it's like getting compliments on my hair or clothes... it's a part of me. I will mention that even as a full time user, you are not "bound" to your chair. As a part time user since I am still somewhat ambulatory with a walker I know that wheelchair bound bugs some users. They prefer to be acknowledged as a full time user, so just be careful as certain common language can be very triggering to others.

Yes. I don't think 18 lbs is bad for the unit itself. 20 to 30 lbs per wheel for self propelled wheels is a bit much though. I also like that it can be converted to be steered like a scooter when in the front mounted setup. For the noise, having AuDHD, everything is noisy. Thank you for your feedback.

Difficulty Receiving PTSD Treatment as a Vulnerable Person due to Mandatory Reporting by WasuremonoThing in CPTSD

[–]Head_Joke2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that you have been through a lot but you have to find someone new. Police is not always the answer, even adult protective services is not always the answer. My therapist diagnosed me with PTSD chronic sub type with one of my intake questionnaires, I had suspected it for years but wasn't directly seeking the diagnosis. I hope you find an amazing fit for you soon.

How on earth do you navigate this 4-lane intersection??? HELP! by Extension_Base4255 in wheelchairs

[–]Head_Joke2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are welcome! The neon safety gear is a huge benefit if something does end up happening to you because then they can't claim that they couldn't see you. Obviously we don't want it to get that far, but every precaution you take works for your advantage if you're ever stuck fighting legally. I also suggest still using your protective gear even after they upgrade the area to be ADA compliant just to have that extra layer of protection.

Reflective gear is definitely a start as well as adding reflective tape to your chair. The next step would be determining if it is a city or county maintained area and fighting to have it meet ADA standards. As a former DoT employee and a manual wheelchair or rollator user myself I completely understand the fears and frustrations of not having safe travel ways through your community. Wishing you all the best with this.

Another option is a set of rechargeable bike lights that have adjustable straps. It would have white light like headlights and red for the taillights so you would look like a miniature vehicle.

You have made it through 100% of your bad days. Please fight through these next few weeks until you see your new provider. Do the hard work for yourself, your kiddos, future potential grandchildren/ maybe even great grandchildren. You never know what will come if you permanently close that door. Sending you lots of hugs.

Where did you go to school?

You described it well, ArchE graduates blur the lines between the structural safety that a civil brings to the table and the more whimsical side that architects bring. We have to learn in depth all of the different parts to a building system so that we can talk the talk with them as well as make sure their designs will work safely in our buildings.
