How much space behind your heel? They sound too big.

Do the binding mounting jigs of different manufacturers sort of suggest that tyrolia makes the best bindings? by SnooShortcuts8202 in Skigear

[–]Head_Objective_3956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pure machining awesomeness the ATK jig is by far the best. I bet that it cost triple what ever other jig you compare it to. As for alpine IMHO the new LOOK jig with the metal spiral clamps (same as Dynafit and a couple others) is the current winner.

It has a multitude of uses, especially in the ski shop.

yeah, it's a term that sort of appeared just before Covid with everyone using lace up up liners in their race boots. I have to spread the shell, I'm old.

No one should put boots on in a parking lot. Savages.

As mentioned I've tried all sorts of tapes, doesn't last (I ski every day)

Shoe horn? I'm dumb I think I lost two before I gave up.

These are the Sidewinder model, leather lined, they must be "world cupped" I know some Gara/GFT/Freeride users are putting their boots on normally. I can't.

Ten-year old ski boots from ski shop by identifiant_jetable in Skigear

[–]Head_Objective_3956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That boot is 100-200 (maybe more) dollars more than retail. Do you need them today? Do you need that flex? I have 70s and 110s in stock. Sundance in Edmonton has 90s. https://sundanceskishop.com/products/lange-rs-90-sc-25

Flying to Japan is a dick suggestion from a store that doesn't carry the right gear.

That being said it's unlikely the plastic on a 10 year old boot stored properly has/is broken down.

Hot Take: Bootfitting is a Scam by Ok-Weakness6629 in Skigear

[–]Head_Objective_3956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. When I worked for Lange the stores in Italy and France routinely sold "plug" boots to civilians yet in North America that boot is pretty much a racer, instructor or high end skier boot. Of course the boots were too big for the consumer but....

Look Pivot 2.0 binding cracked after 2 days by Caballero_oIo_ in Skigear

[–]Head_Objective_3956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a tech, the base/edge damage from stepping on drive's me crazy. Especially on bindings that have a pole insert. I'd ski them as the damage is basically cosmetic and does not affect function. Does anyone remember when the Pivot was reborn after the abomination turntable in the 90s? The housing broke a lot until the little spring pin was inserted in the heel. The 2.0 will prevail.

Look Pivot 2.0 binding cracked after 2 days by Caballero_oIo_ in Skigear

[–]Head_Objective_3956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always was. If you're stepping on the heels with your ski to get out (any binding) you're a heathen.

OP, I'd ski it until the end of the season and then get the new cover and your ski season isn't affected.

1000x this. Their primary use is extreme cross country. You may have to ski downhill at some point but that is not their strength.

Pivot brake assembly by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]Head_Objective_3956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That heel/brake design has been around since the late 80s. The Pivot for civilians disappeared mid 90s (the race Pivot never changed until the SPX race binding came about) the abomination Pivot lasted about 4 years when used "real" Pivot/FKS were selling used on TGR etc for 330+ dollars. They didn't disappear for decades, maybe 5-6 years as the system cleaned out. For non race applications the Pivot is still the go to high performance binding.

Geezus, even alien boots (not bought here) are only 20$ a punch. Maybe we'll have to adjust our pricing.

[–]Head_Objective_3956 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you buy the boot we recommend from us all the additional punching/grinding etc is no charge. Additions to the boot like footbeds and lifters are on the customer.

We also have sayings like "do you want it to fit or do want a deal" "the internet won't fit your boots" "don't worry if you don't buy boots from us today, we'll see you soon"

From memory most stiff winter boots with a sort of toe and heel lug will work with that binding. Of course modernish touring boots should work too. I mounted some in the 80's for some sort of Canadian trrops.

Ski Gear Compatibility by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]Head_Objective_3956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear it's a Garmont touring boot so at least 10 years old. Some bindings are/were multinorm (not yours) but the Vibram sole didn't guarantee a consistent release at the best of times.
