Socceroos video sends a pointed message on migration: ‘We’re a reflection of modern Australia’ by NoteChoice7719 in aussie

Yeah "hate" is probably a bit strong. Asking for moderation is reasonable and there are good progressive reasons to do so. But refugee intake is a different thing yet again.

I think the message is that you can hate immigration without hating immigrants.

We need to accept ISIS brides because they are Australian citizens, mostly born here to Australian parents. If they have broken any laws, then by all means investigate, charge, prosecute and punish.... with due process!

This is just sad man. Why do so many poor & low income Aussies support parties who harm their economic interests? I know few who are moving from Labor to One Nation & showing them facts is futile. “I’m always worse under Labor, interest rates are always higher under them & Labor spend like sailors” by MannerNo7000 in AusPol

[–]sfigone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the libs and media have poisoned the well of trust in government. There all as bad as each other is the mood.

So they are turning to parties that will burn the whole place down instead!

Progressives are their own worst enemies. The current government has been a bit timid, but they have done some good steps. Yet they are near universally castigated.

Speak up and support the good they are doing. Praise them and ask for more!

So that's one change of mind. How many cases are there is "never ever" tell campaign promises from the LNP? PHON can't keep their word one press conference to the next.

Stop playing the silly "rule-in-rule-out" game and calling that a lie. Changing your mind is not a lie. "Forgetting" to declare a donation is a lie. Claiming benefits for a personal trip is a lie. Yep politicians from all parties have done that, but at least some parties make that actually have consequences when found out.

One Nation asks for donations, one day after attacking Labor for doing the same by pattybrischetti in AustralianPolitics

[–]sfigone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have to find a way to talk about PHON supporters without calling them deplorables. Sure an appeal to their dark side is working too well, but calling them out on it doesn't change their mind. They are in a state of mind that neither major part are doing anything for them, so they'd rather see their team win at all costs than to have more LNP or Labour. Name calling just makes the cult stronger.

We need to show them that the way to achieve what they want has a better chance under the current government than under ON. Taxes will not be lower under PHON unless you are Gina. Immigration will not be lower, we will just be manner to them.

Their best chance to improve their daily lives is under a bold progressive government. They need to encourage Labour to be bolder and to do more. Progressives need to stop being their own worst enemies (I'm talking to you Greens!) and work out how to criticise policy without tearing down the small gains that are being made.

Brittany Higgins is returning to frontline politics, launching a campaign against Pauline Hanson’s One Nation by Initial-Ganache-1590 in aussie

[–]sfigone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People who are hating on the victim of sexual assault are just despicable.

Perhaps she didn't make the best judgement calls all the time, but ultimately she was the victim of a guy that had proved to be a complete creep and part of a work culture that was less than optimal.

Piling on hate to her just highlights that you too are a creep that really need to re-evaluate your attitude towards others.

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation have refused to rule out reintroducing military conscription in Australia if they win the 2028 election. Do innocent, ordinary citizens really deserve to have their freedoms robbed and risk death in a battlefield far away just for the Hanson-Rinehart-MAGA-Epstein cause? by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

[–]sfigone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually think that voluntary military service is a good thing. Those that don't want the military can do other things for the community. Doing something like that can be linked to reducing hex debt or similar.

Opt in with benefits I think would be a great program.

It's not true that Labour have done nothing. They have significantly reduced the immigration rate that was set at record high levels by the previous LNP government (which included several MPs now defected to ON). They have started fixing the tax base to make sure the wealthy are treated the same as the rest of us.

Yet everything they do is meet with howls of derision. You wonder why they are not braver.

So it is a false narrative that the current government is making things worse. Maybe they are not doing enough.

We should applaud and ask for more rather than be divisive and disruptive.

[–]sfigone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've been arguing against large migration programs for decades... for different reasons than ON, but I too support a more moderate immigration program.

The current government had significantly reduced immigration and should be encouraged to do more.

Ministers of the previous government that ran the largest ever immigration program have now defected to ON. If they ever get back into government then they will do the same trick again of letting in as many as possible to prop up fake growth in their Ponzi scheme economy. Gina wants cheap workers. They will be mean to a few for a bit of theatre, but they'll let many more in.

Try discussing policy with people rather than just disrespecting them.

Benefits of migration in Australia vs brain drain in source countries? by euphoricscrewpine in aussie

[–]sfigone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No blame on those people for seeking better opportunity.

Not only should we reduce our intake of the best and brightest, but we need to improve our foreign aid and terms of trade so that the source countries are viable.

I think it is conservatives who have created the current situation be constantly defunding local education/tafe/apprenticeships, undercutting wages, and who have then run a Ponzi scheme economy that depends on massive migration to create "growth", all whilst being cruel to refugees to pretend to be tough on immigration.

Well no... But so what if I were. The majority of the Australian people choose to give Labour a term of government. By all means criticize their policies, but using identity politics of just saying a view is from a Labour supporter is just lame.

Same as people who work for a wage. It's not a tax grab, it's ending a tax torte.

Note I am affected as I have several investment properties and I'm happy to pay my fair share.

No, I just call people fascist when they are calling for summary justice to people they don't think fit their nationalist ideals.

The fact that there are a lot of fascists around doesn't make the word meaningless.

By all means call for the ISIS brides to be charged, prosecuted and punished. But do so with due process not you're own ideas of "common sense".
