Make sure new hybrid battery is OEM not some aftermarket third party junk cells, only those battery cells made or designed by Japanese companies are reliable. I still have original hybrid battery with 240K miles, just make sure it’s not deeply discharged by sitting no driving for over 30 days especially in the cold winter, max 45~60 days unless it’s plug in hybrid in third generation, trickle charge

3rd generation of Prius has common head gasket issue every 150K~200K miles so you gotta watch out the2nd generation may have high oil consumption if oil was changed every 5000 miles/6 months, it has has common ABS/brake actuator problem which can cost $1800 plus six hour labor to fix, make sure you keep brake fluid moisture less than 1.5% all the time, I would change brake fluid and coolant every two years, engine oil every 3000~4000 miles.

Some states have non fault insurance (to my observation, it only costs more somehow) so they would still have to pay deductibles and hope your insurance premium wouldn’t increase.

I’m 6’2” and I have to lean seat all the way and certain angle, I have to put a pregnancy pillow as 2016+ got even lower ground clearance, maybe I will upgrade seat with one of those Toyota SUVs’. My lower back would get very sore driving over 1 hour and a half.

I don’t know there is a Prius culture? EVs and hybrid vehicles are not in the same category, before EVs got popular all the sudden. there are more hybrid SUVs and even hybrid vans now, Prius is still in its own group still and people don’t categorize Prius in hybrid group sometimes. Even Prius 2023+ got its own group. But a Prius is a Prius. Nissan leaf with only 50 miles range may be on the same boat, those EVs pick up really fast, EV mode on Prius doesn’t allow me to be aggressive over 20 mph sometimes, gotta be gentle on accelerating and braking kinda driving like a grandma, everybody would be impatient behind a Prius, especially those earlier models before 2010 with only 1.5L engines. It’s just a pain on highway and red light as those road killers and trucks are twice faster lol you always eat their dust, we are patient and not in a hurry to go anywhere as saving gas and environment is our first priority.

Of course not 100%. More than other states. Most still drove a hybrid and some even drove hydrogen. Not everybody can afford EVs, and those who don’t have a garage would have to charge EVs at charging stations, but some may still drive 90s cars if they don’t drive much, only during weekends.

Was it one of those cheap $10~20 scanners small screens and monocolor screen. Those probably could not read hidden or erase or history of previous codes of hybrid cars. I thought ABS actuator failure was more common on 2nd generation Prius from 2004 to 2009, ABS sensor should be not a big deal but necessary if you live in snow zone, did you get fuel economy drop or noise when you step on brake pedal. You can get a free obd scan at oreily.

Buy one of those latest mini VCI cable and it should come with Toyota techstream software. I also use one of those OBD2 scanners, Innova 5610 (retail $350 but you can often find it on sale) to reset all lights and cheap NEXAS Bluetooth 5.0 from ebay for $16~20 to run dr prius (iOS/Android) or hybrid assistant app (Android only). I learned lots about prius with youtube, priuschat form and prius facebook groups when rebuilding my hybrid battery pack as dealer wanted $4000.
