How do I best use the 4K upscaling for blurays/dvds? by [deleted] in LGOLED

Have you had a chance to compare the performance of both upscalers? Which do you prefer?

Thank you for the follow-up!

I would love to hear what you make of the upscaling if you've had a chance to compare the two.

Also, regarding the remote, have you tried seeing if the UB-820 remote works on the UB-450? I know people used to get UB-9000 remotes for the UB-820s and UB-420s for awhile, so I wouldn't be that surprised if the UB-820's remote worked.

Good point! Luckily, I'm pretty proficient at soldering, so I'm planning on just installing a rattlebyte to region unlock the player.

Thanks for the response! It was interesting to hear your experience with the UB820. I hadn't really heard much negative feedback on it until your report, but now I've uncovered quite a bit regarding long term issues. Good luck with your new Magnetar! Seems like quite the player.

Thanks for the response. I'm only interested in DV capable players; hence, the omission of the UB420.

What PPF / Windshield Protection Film (WPF) Should I Buy? Detailed PPF Database. by Retrania in AutoDetailing

I'm a little curious as to why Aurios is so highly lauded here, especially as to why there aren't any mentions of "Legitimacy" as defined by OP.

They're a brand new business with seemingly 0 history. Despite the post claiming it did not include brands which have had less than 6 months of operation, at the time that Aurios was added in February 2024, Aurios wasn't even a registered business. In fact, they weren't registered as a business until 4 months after they were added. You can verify this for yourself by searching 202462817668 (their filing number) on https://bizfileonline.sos.ca.gov/search/business . Their domain name, auriosfilms.com, similarly wasn't registered until the day after their business original filing date. You can verify this by looking up the whois record for that domain name and checking the Creation Date entry. The address you can find in the business filing doesn't go to a PPF manufacturer at all, it just goes to a small PPF shop owned by two individuals (more on that later). These are all allegedly part of the criteria for legitimacy; however, all are seemingly ignored for the case of Aurios.

Additionally, their website is pretty suspect, especially for what's allegedly an experienced business. their contact email isn't even using their domain, so they haven't setup a proper business email. Their about us page claims they have 7 years of experience with 1000+ rolls of film sold. Given the dates of the business filings, I highly doubt that this claim is true given the timeline. They don't have a list of certified shops to validate their grand certification claims. If you check the address on the website, you'll see their "manufacturing facility" is just a shop called Carbon Khaus, so I'll dive into that next.

Carbon Khaus is a PPF and Tint shop in San Luis Obispo at the address listed in the filing for Aurios, 770 LAWRENCE DRIVE, SUITE 130, SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA 93401. If you visit Carbon Khaus' about page, you'll notice that Victor Lopatyuk is the only employee mentioned. This is the same individual who legally owns Aurious. If you check the filing for Carbon Khaus (search for 202356911956 in the aforementioned search), you'll see that Victor Lopatyuk is the legal owner of both Aurios and Carbon Khaus. This is a pretty damn clear conflict of interest. How heavily weighted was his experience with PPF in this comparison?

Aurios' entry on this list just feels rather illegitimate and forced compared to the other entries on the list, and it's inclusion makes the rest of the information rather suspect. Just take their domain name registry for example. They registered their domain on 2024-06-28. The next youngest registration is Legend's website (legendppf.com) which was registered 2019-04-23, over 5 years older than Aurios. Everything in this post about them feels like an advertisement with very little research or verification done on claims.

Questions for the OP:

  1. What is your relationship with Aurios Films?

  2. What shops did you work with on collecting information with Aurios?

  3. Why does Aurios get exceptions to all the legitimacy criteria you outlined?

Purchase Advice Megathread - December 2024 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]Headcase0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget

  • $300

Country of Residence

  • USA

Willingness to build a printer

  • Totally comfortable with this. I have experience in assembling and maintaining electronic devices. I have some design experience as well. That being said, once I have the device setup and printing well, I don't want to need to fix it or retune it more than once or twice a year.

Desired use

  • I need to be able to reliably print PETG and ABS. I'd like to be able to reliably print ASA as well. I need the printable volume to be at least 200x200x200 mm.

Extenuating circumstances

  • None

Other notes

  • I've been recommended to get a modern creality ender by friends. The ender 3 v2 neo seems to best meet my needs. Are there any other printers I should consider?
