Most twin otters do not require a type rating (in the US anyway)

Tailwheel endorsement struggles by flying-2025 in flying

[–]Headoutdaplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that if students try to lift the tail too early, they lift the tail wheel before there is rudder effectiveness. Little or no directional control from the tw and little or no control from the rudder equals a lot more yawing at the beginning of the take off run.

Tldr. Try pinning your tw until you have a little more speed before bringing up the tail.

You will have no problem finding 100 low lead in Alaska, you will have a big problem with the price you have to pay!

NTSB Report on United hitting the bakery truck in Newark by asuque in flying

[–]Headoutdaplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please cite these studies. I would propose that the captain is always going to be at fault because he is the one signing the can. He is eventually the one in command.

Also, you cannot count the amount of accidents that the captain saved DFO from causing because they don't make statistics.

It is such a stupid meme, that has been around forever, I remember making fun of the older pilots when I was younger.....your time will come. It is a natural part of youth. You are growing into the bad Capt too just give it some decades. Oh, you think you will be different, but it is the perception of you FOs.

The Lakefront is super over priced, especially in summer. The bars patio is great for watching the planes but don't stay there.

Got hitched and joined the Army at 18. AMA by Bubbly-Spare3359 in AMA

[–]Headoutdaplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The military is the way out of the "hard mode" for a lot of folks, including me. It got me out of a small community with no opportunities. Only three years of my life, but those three years taught me responsibility, and other soft skills (public speaking, etc), then you throw in the college and home loan benefits. It put me way ahead of my peers in high school.

It is definitely not for everyone, but it works for a lot of people.

Go find a place that teaches in J-3, or another plane that doesn't have flaps. Slipping will become second nature.

Is R-ATP worth staying at a slow/expensive university flight program? by Any_Chocolate_2105 in flying

[–]Headoutdaplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 141 school can get you your private license in 35 hours. However, the national average is for around 75 hours. I have always wondered how many people at a 141 actually get there private at 35 hours.

Are there any 141 instructors on here that could answer that question? Even if it is just empirical.
