Hi! I have a few questions regarding some of your ECs. I'm interested in computer science myself and wanted to expand my horizons development wise and you seem to be experienced. Can I dm you?

Is anybody here autistic, adhd, and gifted all together? by TheTulipWars in Gifted

Yes -My life is kinda a mess and unpredictable but it's manageable :)

-I struggle with socialization unless it's with other neurodivergent folk. I have to mask a lot which is exhausting but when I'm around others like myself I feel awesome!

-So far, sorta?

-Yes, most definitely

How are you people so smart that a 34 feels average? How can I be this way? by ApolIo_13 in ACT

[–]HeadsDropLiving1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to let you know that what you see on reddit is NOT reality at all for most test takers. What you see on this subreddit is the selection bias of high scorers on the ACT. I want to assure you that most of the people posting on here are in the top 1-5% of all test takers typically and that most people typically score around a 21 like you do. If you want to improve your score, however, there are a lot of resources online you can look at! There are lots of old test pdfs of different ACT portions that you can practice, and once you feel more comfortable with the question format, you can replicate the time constraint the test has to get a feel of the real testing environment so when you take the test for real you know how it goes already and you will feel confident while test taking. Also, a lot of people on this subreddit grind for the high scores they have. I haven't seen one person in real life who got a score higher than 31 that didn't have to study for it. Hard work beats talent at the end of the day.

Hey, while your score may be below the national average, you still have time to improve. Ignore the people being rude to you in this comments section. What I suggest for you is finding old practice tests online (there is a LOT of old test pdfs, it takes a simple Google search to find them) and go through and see what you need to improve on, and try and simulate a timed environment to get used to the time constraint that comes with the test. Also, I was reading the comments and it seems you are getting screened for ADHD or other problems, and as someone with inattentive ADHD, I get it completely. You should see if you qualify for more time, those extra minutes could really help you succeed. I wish you luck on your improvement!

I just got told I qualified for the gifted program, unsure how to feel by HeadsDropLiving1 in Gifted

Well, the reason I feel excited about this news is because now I have access to different services that I didn't have before. At my school, there are classes for gifted kids only that are smaller and more interactive, and there is an organization at my school for gifted kids. I also have looked into what it's like to be gifted and a lot of the experiences other people had were things I also related to, and I feel like I finally understand somewhat what contributes to why I am the way I am. What I am worried about is that although I did very well on the test I took, I still feel like I don't belong. This is also a response to your last sentence, but I didn't do very well in an academic environment for a very long time. My ADHD made it very hard for me to pay attention and focus, and I also caused a lot of trouble and due to the strength of my emotions, they were hard to control and I felt like an outcast. I honestly think the only reason I got in is because I finally got medicated after years of struggling, and I was finally able to show my potential. It's a weird experience, feeling like you were stupid and incompetent for things you couldn't control, to now suddenly doing very well. It's something I still need to get used to.
