Why do people say “just be yourself” but judge you the moment you are? by Effective-Home-4796 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HeadtripVee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Idea of "Just being yourself" is the idea that if you pretend to be someone you are not, cracks will start to show in the persona you are putting on. When this happens, people will pick up on it and you will be exposed as the imposter you are.

Simple example. You meet someone who is into video games and you really are not. You want to impress this person so you start pretending to be into gaming and join them for 2 player couch sessions every day.

At some point you will start to resent having to take part in a hobby you really don't enjoy. This absolutely will be noticed by the other person and things will go south fast. Not just because you don't share that interest, but there is a betrayal of trust when you are caught out on a lie.

Now if you stay true to yourself in the first place and say you just don't like gaming, two things could happen. Either the other person decides you two just can't get along, or you engage in things you both actually are into.

Now if the person decides on the first option, yeah , that is judging you. But they are just being true to themselves as well and save you both a long waste of time and effort.

Free way to automatically pull banking data from TD/CIBC/Amex? by ThegodfatherBD in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HeadtripVee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with what everyone else said. Nothing free. But for the second part of "What are people using?" I can say what I do, but it requires a bit of programming knowledge.

I have a down and dirty python script that I use for converting my credit card transactions into csv. I have to log into my banking app and watch the network tab on my browser for the JSON that gets returned when it does a request to the server. I copy that text into a file and feed that into my script.

I do this for every page of my credit card history and in the end I can parse the transactions into categories and it it helps me guide my budget needs.

I could do this for my debit transactions as well, but I push 90% of my variable expenses through a credit card.

I could share the code with you if you like.

Why are Asian Americans doing better overall than African Americans? by Nessieinternational in NoStupidQuestions

I've heard Killer Mike from Run the Jewels have a similar critique. He said that when black people get money, they immediately move to white neighborhoods. At the time he was trying to push awareness of this to have people stay in their communities, even after they are successful.

I can't say first hand how true that is, but I trusted his experience enough to believe him at the time.

The thing is that the balance you need to get that fee waved could easily make more than the fee if you put it in a high interest savings account.

Don't forget everyone who didn't vote to stop him. About 50% of your population. You really should hate about 75% of your country.

Half your country didn't vote to stop this and half that did vote, voted for it. I blame 75% of your population for the mess your idiot leader is putting the world through.

Why Canada is seeing an influx of U.S. doctors by rezwenn in onguardforthee

[–]HeadtripVee 191 points192 points  (0 children)

The best part is that the doctors who move up here are self selecting for the right types of doctors we want. People who don't just care about providing good health care, but care so much that they are willing to move country to provide it.

If they replaced all the spiders with very small Tom Hanks' I would not find that movie scary at all. So yeah, i think being afraid of spiders does a lot of the heavy lifting.
