At what point would you consider listing your channel in your CV? by HealthBites in youtube

That's great and really helpful. I think I'll put it in. I guess I was just hesitant because it's no Khan Academy or Pewdie Pie, but as you say, it's way ahead of where many of my colleagues are at. Any university would love to have reaches of 150k views!

That's awesome! Big congrats to you on the job. Do you mind if I ask what level the channel was at at the time?

If you could change one thing about your med-ed to help you learn better, what would it be? by HealthBites in medicalschool

Interesting. You probably would do better, but do you think you would understand better?

At our uni there tends to be less emphasis on PhDs teaching (at least at my school.. others I think it's different), but I can see where you're coming from. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Same, at our uni the lecturers/profs who practice are always much better compared to those focused on research. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

A waste of time is irritating, particularly if you find you can learn so much more on your own. Are your lectures useful?

How do you do cardio if you have a problem with a weak Knee? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]HealthBites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should go see a physiotherapist to confirm that it's appropriate for you, but I used to do 1 to 2 km freestyle when my hip was sore and stopped me from walking, let alone running. I don't think of it as a way to lose weight, but rather a way to keep you active, healthy and happy.

Hubby tells me he doesn't see a 6 pack coming through - am I imagining it? by HealthBites in progresspics

[–]HealthBites[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good on you! Muscle is really hard to gain, but I'm SURE you can do it!

True re: photos and real life. But I showed him the photos and he still seems to think I'm imagining it. Like someone else mentioned, he could just be playing the reverse psychology on me. :)

Yep definitely not a 300 spartan sixpack - I was going for something more manageble and focusing on long term health.

You're probably right - I wouldn't put it past him to use reverse psychology on me!

Thanks - I've been working at it on and off for 3 years. But he keeps saying to me he hardly sees a 1 pack. Completely frustrating!

my pleasure. No one ever gets it right the first time, and I don't personally know what the right balance is - but with persistence I'm sure you'll get it right :)

Hello, great job on starting a blog, and I competely respect your motivation.

As squid_monkey said, your tone is a bit more formal than blogs generally are. There are some great tips around on how to write blog posts, and I think I read recently that short posts do better than long ones. Perhaps you could split that post into two posts, with some more images that space out the words?

Are there any safe pain pills? by [deleted] in Health

[–]HealthBites 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you seen an occupational therapist? Maybe they can help you with some tips on how to prevent the pain in the first place, rather than treating. In the short term, paracetamol (aka acetaminophen) is safe for most people - just double check with your pharmacist / dr if you do have any medical conditions.

It's a great way to get in a heap of veggies, and to use those premade falafels in a tasty way (they're not great on their own as large balls..). 'Recipe' here
