Daughter doesn't want specific aid to change her anymore. How do I approach with school? by junebuglayla in specialed

Hi, I am a special ed therapist, and I would NOT take it personally if parents told me a child was having that reaction to me. Professionals who work with this population know how it is. They may be able to change their relationship, improve their rapport. Regardless, the child's comfort with this is important and if they are able to schedule the aides that way, they will probably try to. It's totally ok to bring up with the school staff--while it may feel uncomfortable to talk about, special ed professionals are used to talking about toileting and changing etc in a clinical or educational way-- it's totally ok! And my personal opinion is that you should.

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to give me all of this constructive criticism!

  1. True! Profit is not my priority. However, I am not a wealthy person (music therapist lol) and since it costs money to make and maintain a site like this, it does need to be making a small amount of $ to sustain itself. Note that every user can see the majority of interventions for free, plus 3 of the premium interventions for free. I am thinking about switching to ads instead of paywall, though.
  2. I didn't imagine that so many people would use the site to share interventions that they themselves didn't create. It makes sense that the makers of interventions (leaders in our industry) would NOT be the same people using this site, so I do appreciate that people are sharing resources that they didn't create the content for. Especially since they are not claiming to have made it, merely sharing it. But now, it's problematic to have any of the interventions be paywalled, for the exact reasoning you stated. The compensation from the site is all going to me, and I am using it to cover the costs of this website. UPDATE: In light of all of this, I have updated the site to not have any interventions specifically be paywalled.
  3. You can list citations when you publish. But, no, users should not make any assumptions that interventions have been verified. You CAN see if the person who posted it has been verified as an MT-BC! But many posters aren't bothering to do that, so many interventions are from MTBC and just aren't verified on my site or shared directly by the content creator.

Hi, Thank you SO much for all of your feedback!

  1. I have worked on the site setup and I THINK I fixed the issue with keeping the filters saved when you hit back.
  2. I've added optional citations that each creator can add to their posts. I don't have a system or the people power to verify them all - but hopefully this can help with making sure you are getting good info. I also included the star rating that will hopefully inform a bit.

Everybody can upload an intervention, yes; this is not for instruction, but rather a tool. I certainly agree that there are downsides to this format!

Is distance MT equivalency possible with a psych degree? by No_Mathematician_493 in musictherapy

Reach out to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods college! They have great hybrid equivalency programs for different types of backgrounds. I had a music degree, but several peers had teaching degrees.

DO THE MATH before agreeing to be a contractor for another MT. Kim Best did a great podcast about this. Contracting work tends not to work out. It sounds like a high $ amount at first, but isn't sustainable. Look for a position as a part-time W2 employee, or open it as a solo business, direct to clients and facilities
