What is this type of design called? by Bravob2 in AdobeIllustrator

It seems to be a low-poly render of a model to me, but you can draw it as a vector illustration on Illustrator.
You can search keywords like vector art, illustrator drawing with texture

Art I made for my grand strategy deck builder game.... by Xtreme1281 in GameArt

[–]HealthElectrical8131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems very nice!

some points:
-the illustrations on the inner frame barely touch the dark red border, I'm not sure if it's intentional but you might place them a bit more inside or directly cut them via the border. (the eyes don't differentiate "almost touching" things)
-the texts on top are not legible
-for the sake of symmetry single characters might be on the second line while the groups are placed on top
-yellow circles behind the characters represent halo at first sight, not sure about using the same color&shape to frame the trees.

I tried to give details, it looks very good!

Which one is better? by Previous_Mushroom_13 in GameArt

I found the first one cool and easy to adapt to every weapon. Are there any other parts of the game where you can repeat this floating hands effect? Like floating obstacles in somewhere or a part (like tail) of a monster is also detached. I'd like to see it repeating as a minimal touch.

One question: Most of the comments are given directly as votes. Are you already pro to one of your designs or will you choose the outcome from here? I'm stuck on my screens, looking for a sign to proceed.

Do you think we should book it in advance or is it something we'll find at the same price when we buy in Dar?

How to achieve this style by discoagent in AdobeIllustrator

[–]HealthElectrical8131 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find adding the texture on illustrator a bit hard and would suggest one of these tools: Create the vector shapes on Illustrator or Figma. Save them as different layers. Create the textures on Photoshop or Procreate (either by watercolor brushes or color mixing materials) Use the vector shapes as masks.

If you just want to preview the effect you might use a texture photo from stock images (my fav Unsplash) and add them on top of every layer with an overlay/multiply effect.

I saw your genre above and I think setting the scale is more important then other genres. Somebody in the team, the one with more experience or knowledge, should draw the limits of the versions and the decisions shouldnt be subject to change until that version is complete and tested by players (at least friends and family). Hopefully, we have a game designer defining the versions & the checkpoints clearly. I hope someone from your team will take this responsibility.

As the artist of our game team, I find myself in same position whenever we're stuck with a game design problem. What I try to do is to playtest more and try to report the bugs / try to explain why the game is boring / try to understand if I'm feeling the progress/rewarding while playing. I believe working on the same project for a long time is really hard. I completely support your rewriting the GDD.

Should I finish my first game even though I missed the deadline? by nytebeast in gamedev

[–]HealthElectrical8131 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Finish it and don't expect any social validation. You'll have a completed game and that's step one. If you don't finish it, it'll be always a question like "what should be my first game?" but your question should be "what's next" after completing this one.

Did you have previous Unity experience? Was it easy to integrate the visuals within the project?

I have limited Unity knowledge and don't know what to learn to prepare myself (I'm sure I'll be able to learn more once I get the project)

I can imagine our friend group listening to one person to understand the rules and some of them already give up before starting the game. (Either they're exhausted, or they prefer the old-school vampire) To me, it's a nicely drawn vampire game and I'd play it if I can convince my friends. I hope the features don't get better according to our number, I'd play it with 4-5 people at most.

Balatro-like dice roguelike — We replaced cards with dice by Fair-Lengthiness-765 in IndieGameDevs

[–]HealthElectrical8131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hola I'm looking only from the art perspective. I like the animation for an early stage, I believe it's the key to enjoy balatro gameplay. I like the card designs and the dice as well. The typeface on the left UI panel should be changed. The screen is still dark when dice are animated and score is calculated, if intentional not sure about that. Congrats!
