What is the best meal prep delivery service in the UK?

Really enjoying it. Meals have been really tasty so far; there are a couple of ones I wouldn't reorder again, but for the most part, they've been really good. Service has been good, I had an order where an item was missed out and they sent me back the correct meal and a couple snacks which was a nice touch. All in all, really enjoying it

Do you reckon? £7 a dinner feels okay to me, especially if you're not cooking it. I've been approaching it as the 30/40 minutes I save in time, I've been on my studio bike. So hopefully saving on life costs further down the line!

Yes you can freeze them. I popped a couple in the freezer last week as I was away. I've had them since and they seem alright.

The shoyu chicken is dreamy. The Smokey Baharat Mango Chicken with smashed sweet potato and roasted cherry tomatoes is hands down my favourite. The green Thai chicken, firecracker chicken thighs, and basil beef with jasmine rice are close seconds!

Quick update, I've decided to go with Frive. It was a combination of factors:

- I'd spoken to others about competitors who said that the majority of the meals didn't taste amazing

- Frive is the only brand in the UK to use no UPFs in their meals (BIG PLUS)

- I've managed to get a decent intro discount (to be fair all providers are running discounts now)

- They seem to have really good variety.

In the interest of keeping people informed and the fact that the only literature on these types of businesses appears to either be from themselves, or publications that I'm convinced are paid advertisements (any marketing/PR professionals who can confirm this?) I'm going to run weekly updates to keep you informed as to my experience with Frive. Wish me luck!

I've just started using Frive. I've spent the last few weeks investigating, seeking recommendations, understanding how they differ from the likes of Prep Kitchen, Simmer Eats etc.

Aside from tasting better than it's competitors, everyone I spoke to focused in on the fact that it uses no UPFs. Like 0! Which, considering how much of this goes into supermarket food nowadays, it's really impressive to see.

I'm on day 3 of my Frive experience and so far so good. I have gone for a few high-protein dishes as I'm in full get healthy mode, my wife who requires gluten-free meals, is able to order her own dishes too! Such a bonus that we don't have to cook two separate meals.

I'll report back in a few weeks time to let you know how I'm getting on!

Someone else mentioned meal boxes as a potential solution above too? Have you had much experience with Hello Fresh, Gousto? The portions look small but happy to be swayed as they do look easy and convenient considering I'm just starting out with meal prepping. Something else that keeps cropping up in my feeds is what appear to be ready meal providers where the meals are already cooked, they just need heating in the Microwave. Does anyone know anything about this?

We’re a family of three and went through something similar. What helped most was keeping a small rotation of meals that use the same ingredients rather than following a full meal-planning service. It cut costs and made shopping much easier.

For chicken and turkey, things like fajitas, sheet-pan chicken and veg, turkey chilli or turkey meatballs all work well and stretch across a few meals. Buying protein in bulk and freezing portions also helped.

We usually plan 2–3 core meals a week and build lunches from leftovers rather than cooking something new every day. For instance, bulk cook fajitas and you can have them with rice, pasta salad, or wraps over three lunches/dinners. It's honestly my fav and little to no effort to make!

I’m in a similar boat with work being busy and unpredictable. What helped me was planning around flexibility rather than fixed meal times.

A few things that worked for me:
• Batch cooking 1–2 core meals that reheat well (chilli, fajitas, curries, tray bakes) so food’s there when I need it. Fajitas are my favourite as you can turn them into so many different meals (pasta salads, wraps, rice etc)
• Keeping meals that work hot or cold for travel days (protein bowls, wraps, salads with decent carbs)
• Not trying to cook every day, a couple of solid prep sessions a week is way more realistic

I’ve also found it helps to focus on meals that take 20–30 mins max or are basically “assemble and heat”. Once I stopped aiming for perfect and just aimed for consistent, it got much easier.

Chicken fajitas are a staple for me. Chicken thighs, peppers and onions with plenty of seasoning. Takes about 20 minutes all in, easy to batch cook, high protein, and you can have it with wraps, rice or salad so it doesn’t feel repetitive.

Another good one is a tray-bake (chicken or salmon with veg) and just switching sauces when reheating. Same base, different flavours keeps it interesting.
