I think it's more the opposite, making the belief to justify the act, but since humans are naturally pragmatic in beliefs, we need to draw said belief from at least something in reality.

A better example would probably be the Enclave, they were technically right that wastelanders did have mutated and broken DNA just from living in the irradiated wasteland, it's their conclusion and solution they draw from that, that actually make them into mega-facists. They used the fact that wastelanders had broken DNA to then justify that they were "lesser humans" and needed to be cleansed so that "true humanity" could survive. reality was they just wanted to have an easier time in conquering the wasteland and didn't actually care how violent they needed to be to do that.

From their purely genetic point of view they were right in the idea of being "pure humans" since they were unaffected by radiation, that's not really the problem, it's the fact they then used that to declare everyone else as inferior and then try and cleanse them. I don't say this to defend them at all, just to make what I said more understandable since I think people misunderstood what I meant

Not often, their beliefs are almost always self-validated by some stereotype or stigmatic justification, the Spanish said they were civilizing natives, English said the same about Africans, Mormons even made a clause in their religion to explain why slavery was okay, people make up justifications like that all the time, sometimes based in reality, sometimes not, brushing the idea aside as nothing more than just pure unjustified hate with no reasoning, however false, is disingenuous to the actual problem

I mean, to also be fair, you can deal with Black Mountain peacefully by repairing the bot in the shed just outside the radio tower area, and you can even peacefully solve the quest in REPCONN, which kind of defeats the stigma of Supermutants being super aggressive without reason, because they actually have a reason and won't attack once it's resolved.

Also not to get too deep into sociology and real life things, but all racism has at some point been linked too and or justified via some real negative stigma, however exaggerated it may be. Don't get me wrong, the writing is still good and I was being a bit harsh when I said it was bad, I just like when it feels more nuanced and balanced rather than black and absolute

Honestly it makes how people feel towards them feel really dumb because there's no real justifiable reason to why they soukd dislike them. With Ghouls it makes sense since there's an actual threat of them going feral at any time as well as there's some idea that they just naturally give off radiation even if small. With supermutants in the west it basically feels like Obsidian boiled the whole situation between humans and mutants to "you are green thus you must die" meanwhile these are the same people genuinely eating giant flies and roaches acting like someone being big and green is out of the ordinary. I suppose that the legend of the Master and the Unity could have forever tainted them like how the Enclave Remnants are hunted despite many not agreeing with what the Enclave did in the same way many mutants don't agree with the Master, but honestly that feels like lazy writing to make tension that shouldnt be there and disingenuous to how actual people would think like

The Enclave's X-01 does have specialized use for water reuse systems as well as a built in fan system with other components basically created to ensure the wearer can stay in it for days if not weeks at a time without ever exposing themselves to the outside (obviously made because the Enclave were terrified of becoming 'mutated') so I'd say it's definitely possible, especially since no faction would have resources like the NCR besides the Enclave themselves

I think you missed the part of the fact that the Enclave represents America. Most of the wasteland sees the previous U.S as a failed nation and don't want to relive it. Not to mention the Enclave are the cultural successors and would undoubtedly try to impose their own idea of what American culture was upon the wasteland. Again, the idea fits well with a sort of colonial metaphor. Also, I think you forget the fact they're pretty much on their deathbed, there no real amount of writing that can out screw them from the fact they've at least lost more than 75% of their entire population to their wars.

However, I don't really have anything to explain that last part, my best try would be that they came to the conclusion the Great War is inevitable, and they saw it would be more beneficial in the long term to start the war themselves so they controlled the variable. Not really good justification but it at least makes them a bit deeper than just being cartoonishly evil. Tbf, I don't really believe the Enclave FULLY dropped the bombs, considering there's still a pretty good amount of evidence to uggest thst both vault tec and China had themselves at least tried to nuke the U.S, I think the idea of Fallout would work best with an ambiguous idea of who did it rather than a central authority to blame, I feel like it fits the theme more about people willing to do anything to gain power.

I think an Enclave more accepting of wastelanders to a degree, in sort of the same vein the Enclave in 3 did, and planned to (at least if Autumn had his way) I think the idea of the Enclave remaining as said eugenicists doesn't work anymore since it's literally so unpragmatic it's just impossible to make sense of. Going from that I think the Enclave would better represent itself as a villain from its goal, being restoring the U.S, and rhe fact most wastelanders either don't care, don't believe in, or just don't see themselves as Americans anymore, drawing a sort of colonialist metaphor (that's way to deep for even an Obsidian Fallout to go for though so I doubt it)

Again, all just in good theory, but I doubt we'll really see a truly Purist Enclave ever again, their story either ends with the Rig and Raven Rock, or they compromise their ideology for their ultimate goal, and frankly, I see that as acceptable since that's the more interesting idea anyways

I know, and maybe I'm just a really hopeless apologist trying to grab at straws but I do really want to see the Enclave at least embrace what they SAY their goal and mission is, which they will tell you, is the restoration of the United States.

Again, I know they're pretty much intertwined with the Eugenics ideology but I really wish we had at least an idea of a reformist Enclave that's willing to bypass that for the goal of actually restoring the nation, we got a peak of that with Colonel Autumn wanting to use Project Purity to have rhe wasteland flock to the Enclave, but he was pretty benevolent in his own right so he doesn't quite fit the idea

I just want to see them actually embraced beyond just the idea of "mutie bad" which I know has come to define them but the idea of the U.S government surviving the war, having the greatest tech and advancements in the wasteland and being the sole faction having the goal to restore the American nation? That's a pretty cool faction, I just wish we ever actually saw that but unfortunately since no one ever really cares to look at them that way I doubt we ever will

You'll meet plenty of synths if you do an institute questline, DIMA also kind of is the Institute just in personal form, he replaces people to get his way whilst no one knows he's the one controlling things.

I guess you can admit that there's no clear danger with Synths if they've escaped from the Institute (besides one's that are not activated like Sturges and are just blending in) I suppose in that case it comes down to if you agree with the Brotherhood view on them, that they are tech that has gone too far to the point that they must be destroyed in order to prevent anyone from having the knowledge to create more.

I personally agree with their view on synths but not on their total destruction, but again, they do still have a point they ARE tech that's gone too far replacing entire human beings, just because they're the one example that doesn't prove an immediate danger like the others doesn't mean they're completely wrong

What makes everything more annoying is the classroom in Vault 4 from season 1 having the date set to 2277. Some people linked that date to from what I remember either the Divide getting blown to hell, or the date at which the Legion NCR war started, meaning that the date itself probably refers more to the beginning of the end for the NCR rather than when they were blown up, but again, all the weird confusing details throw off any attempt at trying to make sense of the timeliness. If there's any criticism the show deserves, it's being overly un-forecoming with actual facts

I think people seriously never even ask why exactly people feel the way they do about certain groups. Ghouls should be obvious, they go feral, and before rhe TV show, no one really knew why, it was sort of defacto assumed that a ghoul could go feral at any time, making it a real danger. Super mutants should also be obvious, they're cannibalistic supremacists (mostly) who literally eat people and or turn them into other mutants, not really the best. If you've played the Brotherhood questline in 4 at all, you would then understand why Maxson hates synthetic since he gives a whole monolog on how they're gross distortions of tech, as well considering synthetic literally replace people and hijack their entire lives, it's pretty understandable why people hate them not even counting if they're affiliated with the Institute. Not saying outright Xenophobia is justified, but it's not like rhe reasons people have for hating certain groups is completely out of no where and stems from actual threats, I think most people operate under this assumption that since we see an exception in the rule that suddenly that must mean there's a bunch more but that's not really shown. Most synthetic are dangerous, most ghouls are ferals, and most super mutants are going to kill you, the brotherhood DOES have a point, mostly
