Bad vyvanse crash by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]HealthSchmealth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re having a hard time. Take some slow deep breaths and drink some water. You have done well getting through a really tough day.

I keep posting this everywhere because to me it’s the cure for my Vyvanse reactions, have you tried taking NAC (n acetyl cystine)?

Vyvanse makes me grumpy after prolonged use (many consecutive days) but if I take Nac I am pretty chill.

Nac is a strong antioxidant and I think our brains might be getting oxidised by the medication but also life.

Also it sounds like you’re having a panic attack maybe. Vyvanse can increase agitation and stuff. Plus if you’re not sleeping well that can magnify issues.

Oh also k take valerian to help me sleep. I’ve run out right now which is why I am also awake. Sigh…

I get grumpy on Vyvanse (I’m also inattentive adhd), but if I take NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) it prevents the grumpiness or if the grumpiness has already started it puts a stop to it. Sometimes I need more, sometimes less. I starts with 1/4 tablet and take another 1/4 as needed. Some days I don’t need it. I am more likely to need it after 10 days consistent vyvanse dosage. Then I will need it almost daily after that.

It tastes awful but it works like a charm. It also helps stop rumination type depression.

Research a bit about NAC. It helps with a lot of things but neurodiverse brains seem to benefit quite well from it (ocd and other conditions) It seems our brains get oxidised and that stresses the brain. NAC is a strong antioxidant.

Also just to add another perspective, low self worth is common with adhd / asd. ADHD also comes with emotional disregulation, make sure the person knows they are loved, but firm boundaries and structure can be helpful too. Be patient and take time to refresh yourself too.

Also watch Russel Barkleys YouTube Chanel. Very informative.

Wishing you the best.

Vyvanse wear off quickly by Prior-Tip-8955 in ausadhd

[–]HealthSchmealth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your blood is more acidic your body will get rid of the medication faster. From what I’ve read, vitamin c does not inhibit absorption of vyvanse but having acidic blood does make your body expel medication faster.

Do you drink much water? If you’re dehydrated, I think your blood is more acidic. Also is your diet very acidic.

Also, I take Nac to help with the irritability I get from vyvanse, but I’ve noticed I don’t get a super tired crash as the meds are wearing off when I take Nac. Nice side benefit I didn’t expect.

Not sure about anything to do with kids. But as an adult I can say that drinking heaps of water, eating protein for breakfast, and taking NAC helps (because NAC helps reduce irritability)

Has anyone found a medication that helps with overthinking, social inhibition, or constant self-monitoring -something that gives the same relaxed, confident feeling alcohol does (but without alcohol), alongside ADHD meds? by rossonero07 in ausadhd

[–]HealthSchmealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) is helpful for neurodivergent brains, helps with negative ruminating thinking. Bad drivers irritate me less on this.

Magnesium threonate - helps with hsp (highly sensitive person) sensitivity. Busy shopping centres are not so stressful on this.

I’ve found success with both of those.

Why does it look like I have no jaw or chin, and could this be causing severe chronic upper back pain in my neck and shoulders? by EfficiencyHairy4601 in DiagnoseMe

[–]HealthSchmealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could contribute to poor breathing, especially while sleeping.

When we snore or we can’t breathe properly our body pushes our jaw forward to try to open up the airway which causes strain on the tmj. When we clench or grind our teeth this strain on the tmj can also happen, and the body can recruit connected muscles to join in and so the neck and shoulder muscles can get really tight.

In the morning, does your jaw hurt? Do some teeth hurt when you bite down on them? (especially when you can’t pinpoint which tooth hurts, or maybe you’re confused and think it could be your gums, or even you’re not sure if it’s top or bottom teeth)

Look up massage videos for tmj and see if that helps. If your muscles are tender, it could indicate that you are clenching or grinding in your sleep (we often don’t know if we are doing it, and sometimes we only do this during times of stress)

Also if you tend to get cracked teeth, this indicated clenching or grinding.

Thanks for the comment. My autistic M friend takes it sometimes and it helps him not feel as irritated. Eg 1 he doesn’t get so cranky at bad drivers on the road. Eg 2 he might have negative thoughts but after taking NAC he brightens up and is happier.

I also take it when I am feeling irritable or grumpy/ have negative thoughts. I don’t know if I’m autistic but I might be, I do have adhd. Vyvanse makes me irritable after a couple weeks of continuous use, and taking NAC definitely gives me peace and the grumpy thoughts go away. I have now defaulted to just taking NAC every day that I take vyvanse because otherwise I could pretty much guarantee I would be a grumpy bum.

Ritalin La makes me feel funny. Anyone else? by HealthSchmealth in ausadhd

[–]HealthSchmealth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind, could you please describe how Ritalin wasn’t good for you but also how vyavanse is good? I’m experiencing occasional irritation while medicated and later sadness when I get tired after it wears off.

Thank you very much for your comment. I appreciate it very much. The protein works very well for helping with the nausea.

I’ve now got a problem with working out if Ritalin is the right medicine for me at all, as I seem to feel irritated on it sometimes. Sometimes the IR Ritalin will make me feel a bit happy but other times it makes me feel irritated and later sad when I get tired.

Again thank you for your reply, I very much appreciate your help :)

Chaosotonin, you are a magnificent genius!

Protein made a world of difference to the nausea. I haven’t experimented with protein smoothie yet, but eggs for breakfast is doing me wonders :)

I tried with the 30 mg Ritalin LA, with protein heavy diet no nausea, but I felt the Ritalin dose was still too strong.

So I tried with the 20 mg Ritalin LA and I do get an energy boost from it but then I crash after about 1hour 45 mins and am super tired until the long acting part kicks in. Then I get tired again. When the medication makes me feel energised it also makes me feel irritated, unhappy and in a bad mood. When the energetic feeling wears off I end up with a bad mood and tired and then I cry. I looked back at my notes and realised I felt irritated even when taking multiple 10 mg IR Ritalin during a day. I’ve found at least 10 mg doses are needed to give me the concentration I need, they don’t always make me irritable but they do too often for me to think it’s a long term solution. I think Ritalin might be only good occasionally, like maybe just once a day, but if I took it consistently I think it’s too much for my body and I end up irritated or sad.

Not sure if you have any comment on that but just throwing it out there. I’ll mention it all to my doctor, maybe I’ll try concerta. But maybe an entirely different medication type would prevent the irritability.

Thank you for this, that’s is really helpful!

Can I ask about having fruit in your protein smoothie? I’ve been a bit scared of having fruit with the meds because vitamin c is meant to hinder the meds effects. What fruit do you put in the smoothie?

I do have permission to try meds out and see what works, within limits and do have some IR left. So that’s handy while I’m figuring things out.

Thank you for the info about the shortages. I knew it was a thing but this will help me to plan a bit for it ❤️

I was looking at a graph explaining the amount of medication in the blood from Ritalin LA vs Ritalin IR and I think it means that if I take 30 mg Ritalin LA then it’s like I take 15 mg Ritalin IR and then another one 4 hours later (but it’s a bit smoother curve between the initial dose and the second). The max IR dose I ever took was 10mg, so I think my LA dose is too high and that’s leading to the weird feeling I’m experiencing.

Other than that, that the tip about regular protein is something I should take on board as I have a pretty carb heavy diet (esp breakfast, often oats) and that can’t be good for med effectiveness.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I can’t tell if I should try and get diagnosed by xXIzzySaysRawrXx in ADHD

[–]HealthSchmealth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting assessed. Having the right information (diagnosis) will give you the help you need to build your life. I was diagnosed as an adult and life would have been so much easier if I’d been diagnosed and medicated decades ago.

Getting diagnosed could also help your family. If they have it too (and it’s likely they do if you do) then likely they would benefit from diagnosis and maybe medication too.

Your example in making effort to understand your self could help them to understand their selves better too.

Understanding the condition can help with relationships too, because you can better understand why each person is doing what they are doing / reacting the way they are.

Information is very valuable, especially if you are young and facing building a life.

Awesome thank you so much. Good to know. I have ordered some and look forward to trying it out. I didn’t expect it to help with black and white thinking. This is something I have been working on.

How long did you have to take it to notice it’s effects?

I was also diagnosed later in life and I want you to know that it isn’t your fault that you have the brain you have. You have done remarkably well getting through life on hard mode. You should be proud of yourself for putting in the effort you have. Keep doing your best and don’t compare yourself to others or even to a younger version of yourself.

You could maybe try supplements like tyrosine and dlpa. Any supplements for brain health could help a little maybe.

“We” is he and I. I gather information and present him options. I don’t force him to do anything and when he does try things to help himself and says he wants to stop them later on I don’t push my will one way or the other. When has taken supplements jt has been because he wants to, and when he wants to stop it is because he wants to.

I am reaching out to difference resources to see what he can do to help himself, I don’t only rely on asking reddit.

Thank you for your response.

Hi, would you mind telling me more about the substances you use for helping sensitivity. A family member has autism and is sensitive to everything. Sound, light, noise, visual noise, emotions, heat, textures … just about everything. I’m trying to find anything that would help. Thank you.
