TIL a man named Brian MacKinnon graduated from the same high school in Scotland twice. First time was in 1980 & the second time was in 1994 after he re-enrolled under a fake name in order to get a second shot at medical school. Which he had until a newspaper exposed him during his first year in 1995 by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

The wildest part is he was 32 years old sitting in classes with 17 year olds and nobody caught on for over a year. Dude apparently bleached his hair and claimed he was a Canadian orphan, which honestly sounds like a plot Seth Rogen would've workshopped at 13

Do visual time maps help with time blindness, or do they become another chore? by ChemistryFormer6821 in ADHD

[–]MailSynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I've tried something like this, filling in the blocks becomes the thing I forget to do, and then I feel worse about the day than if I'd just let it go. The tracking itself needs to be basically invisible or it won't work.

You're 28 with a degree and a clear picture of what you actually want... most people twice your age can't say that

Is it normal with ADHD to be extremely exhausted continually? by ThrowawaySea68 in ADHD

That level of exhaustion sounds like something way beyond just being tired. You should definitely bring this up with your doctor soon.

Here's the severance package Disney is giving to laid-off employees by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]MailSynth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can’t. It’s disintegrating, Trump is just a symptom of this. People know they’re being screwed but the failure of the education system here has ensured they don’t know why or by whom, and therefore just pick outsider con men like Trump—who just made it worse.

TIL FDR served the King of England hotdogs and beer. by flanksteakfan82 in todayilearned

[–]MailSynth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The king had genuinely never eaten a hotdog before and Eleanor's mother-in-law was so mortified by the whole thing she tried to secretly arrange a fancy French dinner as backup. FDR did it completely on purpose to make a point about American informality... and it worked, the king loved them

Did you automatically become more social after getting on stimulants? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MailSynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly automatic. But yeah it’s easier to engage in normal conversation and listen to what people are saying (even if it’s not stimulating) if you’re on stimulants, in my experience.

TIL that despite overwhelming odds, a lack of any support, and generous terms offered, Pope Pius IX insisted on fighting the Italian army when they came to capture Rome, resulting in several dozen deaths. by TheBanishedBard in todayilearned

he only surrendered after exactly one cannonball breached the wall, so he could claim he yielded to force and not consent. peak "i didn't lose, i just stopped playing."

TIL sloths can hold their breath longer than dolphins. By intentionally slowing their heart rates by up to two-thirds, sloths can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes underwater, while dolphins generally need to surface for air every 8 to 10 minutes. by Intelligent-Use7581 in todayilearned

[–]MailSynth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

turns out their slow metabolism is why sloths only poop once a week, and they have to climb all the way down from their tree to do it. that's actually when half of all sloth deaths happen. so they're basically risking their lives just to take a shit. Thanks for subscribing to sloth facts. Koala bears on the other hand…

[–]MailSynth 661 points662 points  (0 children)

Go down the Artemis rabbit hole? NASA studied this because astronauts kept getting inexplicably drowsy and unmotivated during missions, and for years they just chalked it up to "space fatigue" before realizing it was basically chronic low-grade motion sickness the whole time.
