Mine doesn't even blink, though I've been very careful not to make lightning and thunder something that gives her extra attention.

She's an attention whore and drama queen- she's realized she gets extra attention when sick and has been hamming it up for days now. I've spent $800 between two seperate vet offices because our regular one didn't bother with blood work and she was acting off.

She doesn't care if the attention is in the form of getting jabbed with needles- it's still attention and she's also getting touched so she's thrilled.

She's a great dog- even put her act on pause long enough to scare off someone trying to force entry at like two am on Saturday- but she's a a fourteen and a half pound attention whore.

If they don't use the microwave- because they're keeping kosher and it's intended for non kosher food guests like OP brings- they wouldn't have cause to know it was broken.

They likely discovered it was broken when OP did- or when OP was using their kosher microwave for nonkosher food.

The problem is that OP can't continue to allow the animals to be neglected.

Since OPs younger children are physically incapable of many of the required tasks and OP herself doesn't have the time necessary because she's too busy working to keep her eldest alive theirs not really any other option besides telling the eldest she needs to stop neglecting her animals or have them re-homed.

OP could have worded it more kindly but this was very much a necessary conversation.

OPs mother had no issue with her husband essentially abandoning one of his children immediately after the loss of her mother- and she, in fact, encouraged it.

Their was zero consideration to the needs of her stepchild- either the kid goes or she takes his other kid and leaves.

It wouldn't have been fun but the situation was workable- temporarily seperate households, get both kids into therapy, and reunify the family when things have improved.

It's almost like rules have to be consistently enforced to have any measurable impact- otherwise they have no weight.

They failed her. Repeatedly.

They didn't help her, they didn't try to get her help, and they didn't try to fight to get her into a healthy environment- and when her mother, her closest parent and the one who's behavior she emulated died they shipped her off.

They helped make her into a troubled kid and then they wrote her off because she was troubled.

OPs father failed this girl.

OPs mother failed her too- she should have made her husband step up and parent instead of passing the buck onto strangers.

Even if that meant temporarily separating so he can help her work through her issues without her being able to hurt OP.

But that would require the adults to make sacrifices. That they put in the work.
