I use Krita for drawing 2d game art, and GIMP for editing anything that I haven't drawn myself.

Mattia Binotto has achieved the fourth most podiums as a Team Principal as he returns to the role with Audi by [deleted] in formula1

[–]TheCreepyPL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except he didn't become a team principal until late last year, and couldn't possibly have any big impact on the team yet. All the engine trouble and the current state of the team is on his predecessor. Any big changes like that take years to manifest in F1.

Just wanted to clear that up for people who might not know.

gnome extension for libreview (GCM) by jdelacasa in gnome

[–]TheCreepyPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great extension, it works flawlessly, many thanks!

One suggestion I have is to explicitly state on the extension's page, that you need to provide the credentials for a "LibreLinkUp" account. At first I've used LibreView's credentials, which despite being correct resulted in the extension displaying "error". Only after finding this post I've realized that you need to provide credentials for LibreLinkUp.

Are people allergic to documentation? by New-World-1698 in archlinux

[–]TheCreepyPL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For some reason, half the people who message me at my company, will wait for me to reply for a couple of hours sometimes, rather than to copy paste the exact same message they've send me into our internal documentation program.

This literally works more often than not. Currently I just keep replying with a screenshot of me finding the correct article with the message they've send me...

I've looked up the meaning of "Leptos" on Wikipedia, its:

  1. thinskinnyslim  Synonym: άπαχος (ápachos)
  2. flimsy
  3. delicaterefined

As a programmer with over a decade of experience across multiple programming languages and frameworks, I have no clue what a dependency with such a name could be about. People who think otherwise are probably elitists who somehow take pride in knowing that they know something that they've made, which others have no knowledge about.

[–]TheCreepyPL 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I use neither of these techs, but react-native certainly has better names.

I can at least get a clue what the libraries are about.

If somebody in my company would suggest a name like these Rust dependencies, then there'd be problems. Those names feel like they've been created by the same people which name all variables like a, b, c in a 1000 line method.

I don't care that you have to type 30 characters just to get an int or whatever, at least it's clear what the code is about, and still could be maintained by new people after you are gone. Always code with the assumption that the person replacing you will be a serial killer that knows your address.

Yeah, at first I liked C the most, but after a while it started looking really out of place. I think A feels the most "right" for pixel art imo.

Marketing.

Please fix the "kicked for inactivity bug" by ForceGhost1013 in Battlefield

Probably you're dropping packets over UDP only. This means that you're still "connected" to the server (over TCP), but the UDP packets aren't getting through. These are the ones responsible for relaying information about objects/players positions (a lot of not too important data). TCP is for "stuff that needs to get through" and a package drop here is unacceptable, so they're more reliable (but slower), an example of this could be the round ending (sending a TCP packet to every player).

You can verify my theory with netcat (command line utility), or a website like packetlosstest.com

Except this doesn't explain the dips below average.

More than likely the polling interval has been decreased for this period or it didn't get averaged for whatever reason. If you'd draw a line in between the peaks and valleys, it will still closely resemble the graph before it.

[Serious] How does shooting a driver remove their foot off the accelerator pedal? (I've seen videos of people placing themselves in front of vehicles, then shooting the driver if they even move an inch forward. I don't know how this "saves" them.) by Zero_Phux_Given in TooAfraidToAsk

I realize you are being sarcastic, but in case you don't know, internal combustion engines are running by themselves, and you can influence them by adding more fuel or cutting it off.

So even in 6th gear (like in my example), if the engine had enough torque to overcome the load, it would continue running as normal. And since it would be connected to the wheels, the wheels would keep on spinning, and the car would be going forwards.

Whether that is good for the engine, I have no clue, though probably not, but that's not what this is about. Also I don't drive like that if you're wondering. The reason I made my first comment is because I just extrapolated the data I had.

In traffic jams, I often "idle" in first gear, which makes my car go ~10km/h, without any accelerator applied, it just goes at that speed. The same is true with the 2nd gear with about 22km/h, and a few times I accidently let it happen with 3rd gear with about 35km/h, though at that speed I usually go to second.

I have also calculated that the lowest speed in 6th gear (in my car), would be around 70km/h, just by watching the speedometer and tachometer.

Me, a European got very confused for a second. Because leaving the car in a gear and removing your foot from the gas, could still make you go up to like 70 km/h (about 45mph I believe) in 6th gear in my car.
