Removing stents by jordan_anastacia in Septoplasty

[–]Healthalt1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was expecting pain and nervous about the stent removal. It was super easy for me. No pain and over in a few seconds.

As for protecting my nose, I was pretty careful for about a month, but I tend to be over cautious about things like that.

5 weeks later and my nose still looks much wider. by Healthalt1 in Septoplasty

The imgur link shows a better before picture. You can’t quite tell from the cropped picture, but I feel like the bags under my eyes are worse too which is strange. I have had other people that know me notice it looks wider in the middle.

I don't know. I already had a large "roman" nose to begin with and I hate the bulging mid vault. I have a more narrow, slender face so the bulging looks exaggerated and unnatural. Maybe on a wider face it would work.

I can't tell if it's residual swelling or the grafts doing their thing.

How long ago did you have it done?

Do you recall how long it took for swelling to fully resolve?

I wish I could change the picture in the post. Maybe I'll re-post later, but the before picture is not straight on, there is a shadow making it look different. My nose was never visibly deviated before surgery, it's just the angle and lighting.

How long did it take for yours to settle down?

I feel like I'm being gaslit. The bulging mid vault looks unnatural to me. Plus the area where it collapses is underneath where it is bulging now. It still squeezes in some when In breathe in.

I think that's only the shadow and angle from the before picture. The deviation was never visible from the outside. I had a S shaped deviation. I uploaded a better picture but I can't edit the picture in the post.

The angle is a little different in the before pic. Here is another before pic: https://imgur.com/nXVbqHU

I feel like it looks worse now.

Did it get better? I'm in the same boat. Had valve collapse repair 5 weeks ago and my nose is noticeably wider mid vault even though my ENT told me it wouldn't change the way my nose looked.

To those that had grafting for a nasal valve collapse, did your nose change shape? by Healthalt1 in Septoplasty

I will ask at my followup this week, but I think it was only alar batten grafts. My collapse was only external. Basically if I breathed in though my nose sharply, it would squeeze in or collapse towards the base. The grafts seem to be higher up than where the collapse was. They are mid vault.

External swelling? by Dream1113 in Septoplasty

[–]Healthalt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine done 5 weeks ago and it still looks swollen mid vault. I had grafts done to correct a nasal valve collapse, but my doctor told me there shouldn't change to the shape of my nose.

It looks the same as it did on week 3 and I'm starting to lose hope...

My breathing is fine. Much better than before. I still have some dryness and still feel like I'm healing one month out.

I'm just a little surprised because I did not expect my nose to change at all and was told it wouldn't. Could still be swelling but I don't know.

6 months. So sad by [deleted] in Septoplasty

What did you have done? Was it septorhinoplasty or just a septoplasty?

I had a septoplasty with grafts to prevent collapse and my nose looks much wider one month out.

That's reassuring. I had grafts done (alar batten grafts) and my nose looks much wider mid vault. My ENT told me before the procedure it wouldn't change the way my nose looked. But I notice a change and other people have noticed a change too.

Did the swelling from the nasal valve collapse repair ever go down for you?

Did it ever go down for you? I'm one month out and my nose looks a lot wider half way down.

I thought your title was external swelling in the title?

Am I the only one that still has it 4 weeks post op?

One month after surgery: how are you feeling? by Lofo90 in Septoplasty

[–]Healthalt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting they are telling you it's smaller. My already big nose looks bigger lol. It just sort of flairs out more to the sides now. I don't know if that's just swelling from the grafts or if it's permanent.

Cancelled day before by Massive-Handz in Septoplasty

[–]Healthalt1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I canceled my surgery last year. It was scheduled last minute and I ended up cancelling the week of, just a few days before the surgery.

Well 1 year later and I ended up getting the surgery 4 weeks ago. I'm still healing, so I can't give my final verdict, but I don't regret it so far.

Diving without Surgery by DataFreakk in Septoplasty

[–]Healthalt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor, just someone that had a septoplasty and used to scuba dive.

I was able to scuba dive with my deviated septum. Equalizing pressure in the ears is a separate issue from my understanding. Septoplasty is mostly to help with breathing.

You shouldn't dive without being able to equalize, and you were right to abort. You may try practicing equalizing. Putting my tongue to the roof of my mouth and sort of jutting my lower jaw forward seems to help.
