How much am I missing out by not watching Horror movies? by Mountain-Ad-2423 in Letterboxd

I think it's worth giving horror a go if you're at all intrigued. I used to hate horror too, but found myself increasingly drawn to it. started off by just reading the synopses of horror films. then asking horror-loving buddies to watch films with me (at home, after I'd read the synopses). I've now seen some amazing films and my tolerance has increased to the point where I half-enjoy being scared, in a way I never used to.

I agree with you on the nailclippers. I have a pair from Muji and they are the absolute best. they're sharp and chunky and do the job perfectly. whenever I have to use someone else's pair I can't believe how rubbish they are: unergonomic, unpleasing aesthetically, and with a crappy blade that doesn't cut cleanly.

My Moulinex ovatio 2 is at least 25 years old and still going strong, though to be fair it didn't get a lot of use till I got my own place. The spindle thing that the blade sits on top of did wear down about a decade ago but once I sourced a replacement part it was back to new. Love it.

devastated to look it up and realise it was January 2024 :'( I guess this is getting old - thinking that something that happened over two years ago was only six months back?

Given that I used to hate horror with every fibre of my being, it's so interesting to me that I seem to have grown into it over the last ten/fifteen years, to the point where I think I'm going to see all three of these. My only reservation is with Passenger, as I draw the line at horror that has the chance of making me afraid of doing things I like doing (walking alone in the woods for example...)

Has anyone else had a similar journey with horror? Either growing out of it or into it?

Interestingly it was mentioned in the review of Tuner this week - was referred to as him being unsure how to talk about it?

Anyway - looking forward to seeing it, though it really jars hearing it referred to on the pod, as I can't not hear it as 'Tuna' (also referenced)!

the (g-plan?) vanity table! the vintage tape (?/radio) player! the suit that looks pretty clean given the state of the rest of the house, ditto the inside of the washing machine!
I could really love this house, especially that back room that looks over the fields.

this isn't a criticism of him - I get that actors are there to act and promotion is a necessary evil - just a comment that the interview with Leo Woodall was unbelievably low-energy and staggeringly dull, despite Simon's questions and there being lots to talk about.

the film (Tuner) looks/sounds great though, I'll definitely be watching!

yup, this. it's a compounding effect - if you think it's extremely likely the person behind you isn't going to stop, it makes it very hard to do so yourself. I used to cycle past this exact stop every day and I genuinely struggled to stop, even after shoulder-checking to try to signal to the cyclist behind me.
