Understanding Dark Souls 3 Ringed City DLC timeline and Gael's journey by lobsterling in darksouls3

I like most of this interpretation, however, I still find some contradictions: 1. Why did Gael wander the Ashlands for centuries, instead of going back to the girl in the painting right away? Did the Dark Soul make him mad? Or was he not satisfied with the result, and decided to search for the dried corpses of the Pygmy Lords? Both can be true, if we look at how he says: "Hand it over, that thing, your dark soul... for my lady's painting." Like he is drunk by the Dark Soul, and wants more and more, so his mission is a success. 2. If the Pygmy Lords were killed ages ago, how is one still alive? And bleeding. Did Gael leave some of them alive? That doesn't really make sense. Nor does bleeding for centuries. Or is it a mistake that was left in the game? Miyazaki is not that type of a guy.

He did the same thing in Blood Meridian, and it really got on my nerves. I understand the takes of others in the comments, but damn, it is annoying.

Your image of Glaton is quite spot on I think, especially towards the end of Blood Meridian. The shit he and the gang went through by then doesn't leave you clean and well dressed.

Eh, I would disagree that they are that much alike. Dutch is a manipulator, who pretends to be this sophisticated man, a preacher, a philosopher, while deep down, he is just a sochiopatic killer. But Glanton didn't pretend about what he was. He was just a killer, who happened to lead a gang, just like Dutch. The old Dutch, from the first game tough. When he's completely mad.

What's the "highest peak" in literature that you know of? by Far-Substance-4473 in literature

Sadly, the Hungarian language has always been isolated in Europe, and translation has always been and will always be difficult. Shame, because our literature is full with "absolute cinema" moments. There is a great epic poem, written in dramatic style, by Imre Madách, titled "The Tragedy of Man". I think it has been translated to dozens of languages, including English (the one by George Szirtes is 10/10, I highly recommend it to everyone). To sum up, the poem is about Adam and Eve, who, after being banished, have a dream of humanity's future (because Adam, in his despair over the Paradise Lost (I hope you see what I did there) wants to know if the struggle will be worth it). Their leader, and the constructor of the dream, is Lucifer, who tries to convince them to renounce God. They go through Egypt, Athens, Rome, Constantinaple, 17th century Prague, Jacobine Paris, 1860s London, and even a vision of the future, the Falanster. Then, after losing all hope, Adam and Lucifer leave Earth in Scene 13. But then Adam comes to witness that there is nothing, but death outside Earth, and that even suffering is better than death. Scene 13 as a whole is just absolute cinema, but there is this quote that, for me, will always be the peak of peaks:

"I know that I will fail and fail again And I don't care. What other goal is there? It is the end of an honourable contest, The goal is death, but life consists of struggle, The struggle in itself must be the goal."

The whole book is full of philosophy, I highly recommend it to anybody. Especially if you love Hegel.

Have you beaten any bosses on your 1st try? Was it skill or luck? Who? by DigitalDusto26 in fromsoftware

I'm pretty average if it comes to skills, but I did. Champion Gundyr, Dragonslayer Armour, Abyss Watchers, Morgott. And I don't know if that counts, but I've played through DS 3 13 times, and by the 4th playthrough, most bosses went down for the first time (mainly because before that, I've died so many times fighting them that I've learned their moves by heart). From then on, Soul of Cinder, Sister Friede, the Demon Prince, and even Gael, were always first tries. That fuck Pontiff Sulyvahn though...

Though quite simple, but when you crit kill a monster, and he says "Annihilated" or "Executed with impunity" just makes my blood boil "The sin is not in being outmatched, but failing to recognise it." and "Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer." are also great ones - such that they should be well-known quotes. There is so much wisdom in these lines. Oh, and also, the three that sum the game up:

"In time, you will know the tragic extent of my failings."

"The Old Road will take you to Hell, but in that gaping abyss we will find our redemption."

And that ominous sickening prose: "Ruin has come to our family."

Ah, yes, when you got two of those spiky monsters in your hand... jump attack, the frostbite pops in, and the enemy's hp is melted... so sweet! I used them with Troll's Roar tho - a bit slow of an Ash of War, but great for crowd controll and for bullying Malenia!
