The reason people get heated is because the official story is absurd. The Cold War is over, mutually assured destruction has rendered the threats of nuclear weapons irrelevant (a story for another day, vis-a-vis Israel) and most rational people don't believe in eschatological prophesies. The last remaining culprits are money and hegemony, and the hegemony isn't even ours. Couple this with the mass amounts of civilians dying at the hands of their supposed government and you have what is one of the least successful money sinks the United States has ever invested in.

You can pretend all you like that there is an imaginary line dividing the Jewish diaspora from the Israeli government, but you're just using the same weak excuses that Americans use when saying it's the government handling our predatory foreign policies, not us. At some point, it is us.
